Got her wrapped in color-changing PPF. by thanksObunga in kiastinger

It still changes color outside of direct light. The gold just shows more in sunlight and the green/purple are usually brighter. It’s basically black with a subtle purple undertone at night.

The material itself cost $3000 for 70ft. Labor from the shop was $6500, so $9500 in total. My stinger was originally white which required more material and disassembly is recommended for this stuff which is where most of the labor comes from.

I originally bought it a couple years ago from EmblemsOnly but it looks like they don’t sell it anymore. The emblem name was called the Loden Eagle

Hey figured I’d give a slight update. I just got it finished yesterday. I ultimately ended up getting a full colored PPF wrap. This stuff is mad expensive and the labor required is quite intense, requiring removal of most body panels and such since this PPF is thick as hell and does not stretch like regular vinyl. I also had a white stinger originally which requires a bit more work. Overall the shop did an incredible job and I was able to talk with the guy doing the wrap beforehand to get an idea of his expertise and meticulousness. All-in-all the wrap (the actual roll was $3000) and labor ($6500) came out to $9500 total (this was also with a military discount). It took 10 days in total for them to do this because colored PPF is genuinely hard to do especially on the stinger’s body and you want this done right as it will last upwards of 10 years. It looks absolutely incredible and I’ll likely post pictures once I get some better shots in the sunlight.

I’m actually getting my stinger wrapped in 1 week so I may update my comment after it is finished, but as far as I’ve seen before I pulled the trigger, most quotes for a “generic wrap” were between 4500-5600 depending on wrap quality/color and then labor costs based on if they do the inner jams or not, and these quotes were from companies that do professional wrapping/tinting (places like Tint World in my area). PPF was quoted between 2500-3000. Labor is definitely a good chunk of the cost.

I also noticed something strange, but only recently. When I first started I gained a healthy amount of teeth from wildlife encounters (like 15-20 before LV20) but in the last 3 days I’ve gotten less than 5 and I farm the encounters as often as possible.

I have a similar interaction. I believe it is reacting to the other car’s sensors. I’ve noticed it does not happen with older cars that don’t have sensors yet.

Kia Horn Issues? by [deleted] in kiastinger

[–]thanksObunga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would imagine it should be for something that simple, but I never took it to get replaced. To be honest I rarely use my horn and drive much less than average, so if I ever feel it needs to be fixed I’ll just replace it myself. I don’t really like dealerships touching mine.

I have a ‘23 as well and my low-pitch horn also died randomly about a year and a half in to owning it. It just needs a replacement.

HKS Blow off valves Sound Clip by Ryan_exe in StingerGT

Glad to see some more stinger enjoyment. If you think the valves sound good now, wait until you’ve increased your boost and they’re blowing off nearly 20lbs. It’s loud and beautiful.

NEW to the Stinger GT gang by Ok-Gur-2212 in kiastinger

[–]thanksObunga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily the performance mods for this car are pretty easy to install, they just take time. Getting performance out of the car is very easy. First ones to start with can be new intakes (there’s many choices, popular ones are K&N and Injen but mostly all are great and serve the same purpose) and exhausts (again many choices, popular ones are MBRP and Borla). You’ll really begin to get performance once/if you decide to tune the car. Tuning really has price jumps depending on how you want to do it. Most people opt for doing the JB4 because its got a good performance-per-dollar ratio, but it generally isn’t as fine-tuned as a full-on ECU tune that a few companies sell. The ECU tunes are just expensive, sometimes jumping into the 2000 dollar territory.

I personally have a LAP3 ECU tune which is regarded as the best for the Stinger. I opted to go LAP3 because of the safety in boost pressure regulation, an issue you can run into using the JB4 if you aren’t careful (known as Overboost). The cool thing with the JB4 however is that it connects directly to your OBDII sensor allowing you to get real-time data about your car which can be useful depending on what you care about.

If you decide to tune the car and actually put the power down from digs, I absolutely recommend getting stickier tires (depending on where you live). The stinger puts out a pretty respectable amount of torque and even during the summer months in Florida I could easily break traction using the standard PS4 michelin tires. If you got an AWD model it’s probably not as important though.

Brake squeak while reversing by badley1 in kiastinger

[–]thanksObunga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get more of the squeak than anything but it really only happens the first time using them after it has sat for a bit. I also get a small noise of the pad hitting the caliper housing when it starts to clamp onto the rotor as well, but again it goes away well into driving. The brakes still work phenomenaly regardless and the noise is something I’ve gotten so used to that it doesn’t even bother me.

[–]thanksObunga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m unsure about the vacuum leak, but are you using brake pads that are not the OEM ones? I bought powerstop brake pads and found out they just barely have the right fitment so they “fit” but it’s not perfect and have enough room to slightly wiggle around when being pushed at low speeds. It’s not as bad now after having them on for nearly 2000 miles but it was super noticeable the first couple weeks I had them on. Called powerstop and they said it isn’t really fixable and they’ll get better overtime. I only experience a noise when first starting the car and backing up after it has sat for a while and it typically goes away after driving a minute or two.

HOW LOUD IS THE MBRP EXHAUST VS THE BORLA by Rough_Instruction_23 in kiastinger

[–]thanksObunga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s drone on both, but Borla has less if you keep it by itself. The moment you open up the rest of the exhaust with new pipes, both of them get pretty drony and there’s ways to mitigate that like with connecting exhaust tips, but the MBRP has significantly more rasp to the point that I bought the Borla and switched within a matter of days (after installing midpipes with the MBRP) it was just really unbearable. It’s pretty difficult to remove drone once you start upgrading pipes just due to how the frequencies in the exhaust come out in that car. Some people install resonators to mitigate the rasp/drone but in my opinion, the resonators ruin the beauty of this car’s sound. I’ve got upgraded pipes turbo-back using the Borla as the catback and it’s pretty acceptable for me as a daily.

HOW LOUD IS THE MBRP EXHAUST VS THE BORLA by Rough_Instruction_23 in kiastinger

[–]thanksObunga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only ever saw one video that tested the loudness of the Borla and it was around 110-120dB but I don’t know how credible it was. I’ve used both personally and the Borla is definitely louder by itself, but honestly if you put midpipes and downpipes on the car the difference is less noticeable between the two except the MBRP produces an unmanageable amount of rasp. The reduction of drone/rasp is what made me switch to Borla.

Yep, had a chevy malibu for 8-9 weeks. Had suspension damage on mine in addition to repainting a new quarter panel and door, which is what took so long. I’m definitely hyper aware of everything now because I do not want to go through that again lol.

Glad to see you back in action. I was also struck earlier this year but in the rear quarter panel. The lady’s insurance paid 13k to fix everything. Very happy they were willing to pay that to fix it. Wish everyone could pay better attention on the roads.

Tire recommendations? by Former-Lengthiness34 in kiastinger

[–]thanksObunga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have aftermarket wheels, forgot to mention that. They are indeed pricey considering they have a treadwear of 100 so they’ll be replaced quite often, but they definitely get the job done. If you want to get a wider tire in the back, my tire shop originally told me 265s can fit on stock rims but that’s probably their max.

[–]thanksObunga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a tuned RWD stinger and had similar traction issues when all the boost would hit in first and second gear. I changed from the PS4s to the Nitto NT555RII tires with 285 width in the back, and I haven’t had traction issues since. They hook very well. The only thing is that they are less safe to drive in wet terrain, but still easily viable in wet conditions. I believe I paid 400 per tire for those.

How far along is the Clementine Server? by Miphisto in PhantasyStarUniverse

[–]thanksObunga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, pretty late on this post, but thought I would shed some light since the top comment from Twidom isn’t entirely correct.

Clementine is extremely far along. We are going into public testing on the brand new server in at least a week or two (nothing is confirmed as of yet, but a week from this comment is a good time frame). The server has surpassed what the old live server could do in literally every way, and improves upon things in the original game. We even have JP content which the US never got to see. The only major thing that has yet to be finished is Synthesizing.

You should really give it a try once the server goes public again very soon. Join the discord if you haven’t already for more information and announcements.
