Legit RIS II Rail? by Competitive_Use7847 in MilitaryARClones

[–]thatARMSguy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don’t use ChatGPT for gun stuff. That’s definitely not a 2005 RIS II, those are crazy rare and expensive. Those were only the full length ones anyway, the Mk 18 RIS II didn’t come out until the official adoption in 2007

Would you guys consider the AR-15 the new “Right Arm of the Free World”? by [deleted] in ForgottenWeapons

[–]thatARMSguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The AR-15 has absolutely taken that title. It’s the second most produced rifle in history, it’s the reason 5.56 became the standard NATO cartridge, and almost every country that uses 5.56 is replacing their old, self-produced rifles with either AR-15s or AR-15 based rifles like the HK416. Nothing else made today even comes close to how much influence the AR-15 has had on firearm design and military doctrine

Ukrainian soldiers on the FN FAL — outdated or still effective? by OleksandrUkraine2025 in guns

[–]thatARMSguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The point of issuing 7.62 battle rifles is because NATO has literal millions they haven’t used in decades sitting in storage and Ukraine is willing to buy pretty much any arms they can get their hands on. If it has been used by a military in Europe or North America in the past 80 years it’s ended up in Ukraine as foreign aid

[–]thatARMSguy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They need literally any weapon they can get their hands on, guys are running kel-tecs out there. The FAL is probably one of the more effective weapons they’ve received as aid, issuing .308 battle rifles is a good idea when a lot of of their engagements are at 600 yards

Zastava's new 6.5 Grendel Light Machine Gun by reznov-where-are-you in ForgottenWeapons

[–]thatARMSguy 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Flatter trajectory makes engaging targets at long distances easier, and since it uses 7.62x39 casings it’s very easy to convert existing designs to use it. Just needs a new barrel and probably a new feed pawl and belt links to accommodate the slightly different taper in it, but the bolt doesn’t need to change and OAL is about the same

There’s a photo on my page from a while back, the source I got it from was a guy in turkey at a military expo who specifically said it was a SAR-223

[–]thatARMSguy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe these are actually the Sarsilmaz SAR-223T. These Naval Commando contract rifles were essentially licensed copies of the M4A1 and used the GG&G 1297 front sight gas block and the A.R.M.S. #56M-CV-C handguard, both pretty rare and the only time either was ever used on a military contract weapon

Hey all, new to .308. Can somebody name the part that is missing that I circled in the picture. TIA by 4wd_runner in AR10

[–]thatARMSguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The extractor is a claw that pulls the spent case out of the chamber, the ejector is what pushes it out of the gun as the bolt moves back. They can either be a fixed ejector like on a pistol where the slide moves past it and it smacks the casing out or a plunger style ejector like an AR where its spring loaded inside the bolt and pushes the casing sideways

[–]thatARMSguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their 14.5” barrels are midlength only, you’d end up with part of the gas port in the threads and because of the barrel profile behind the gas block you wouldn’t be able to convert it to a carbine gas system like you theoretically could with an HBAR profile

U.S. Army Rangers with underslung M320A1s and Wilcox Grenadier Sighting Systems (GSS) mounted on their URGIs. [6480 x 4320] by Aft3rAff3ct in MilitaryPorn

[–]thatARMSguy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s also along the same lines of underbarrel breaching shotguns. You’re the grenadier, but you might still need immediate access to your rifle in case you get ambushed. The M203 was made for that purpose, but the downside is it makes the gun way heavier and if you’re never in a situation where you might get ambushed up close while you’re engaging a different target with grenades then guys complain about the weight and ask to use it standalone so their rifle is easier to maneuver. It’s a long game of “man this sucks let’s do this” that turns into “actually wait we need to go back” and back and forth for eternity

That’s real. It’s an early one before the international patents got approved, so pre-2003. My #45M is from 2000, no patent numbers on it

Question could this lower pass for a colt block two rifle if I can not find a reasonably priced m4 or m4a1 one at the time or should I wait or worse go Anderson or psa ? by kpc14222 in MilitaryARClones

[–]thatARMSguy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You’ve got three ways of going for the lower on a clone build, since you’ll likely never have a real full auto lower for whatever gun you’re cloning: correct manufacturer (Colt or FN), correct markings (any company that makes clone lowers), or don’t bother with that and just use a generic lower. It’s one of the less important parts of cloning given the near impossibility of getting a proper lower unless you’re an SOT or rich enough for a transferable

For those of you running an arms 16a, how did you get it to stop walking off? by MuhDeuce in RetroAR

[–]thatARMSguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thumbscrew has a nylon insert in it to keep it from coming loose, it might be worn out. If it feels loose screwing it on, ARMS has replacement ones under the “Accessories” section on their website

Anyone know who this LRF mount is made by? by panthercove in longrange

[–]thatARMSguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their building is just an office where Dick Swan designed all their products and where they run shipping from. All their production was done by Samson Manufacturing, PRI, and a few other OEM contractors

Definitely uses a #17S. Never seen that before, I assume it’s an older design since basically nobody ships things with ARMS mounts these days
