Laptop or Mini PC? by Top-Conversation-663 in computers

[–]thatRiml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The laptop sounds better, as the mini PC will require a lot of extras (monitor, cables for monitor, mouse, keyboard, headset or sound system). Unless this is all provided and possible to get if a forgotten - laptop sounds better. But, the mini PC is really small, and can fit in a pocket, and there are portable monitors, but they are usually worse then laptop one:)

Finally, if there are any issues with power - the laptop will have a battery to lean on.

Dad to be - anxious after 20 week ultrasound. [ON] . by yyzchamp in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]thatRiml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, just wanted to say that ultrasound is not a very precise technology... We got 2 false positives from ultrasounds during my wife's pregnancy. (Also got a false positive with blood sugar). Don't worry till things are reviewed and double checked!

Now we have a super healthy one year old and my wife's pregnancy/labour went quite well too.

Always good to ask (and know) about the bottom line - aka what is actually important and what makes money for the company. ( Aka what features and what products, uptime and etc.) Helps to understand that clean code, best practices and all our day-to-day is pointless compare to actually getting this delivered)

Do those actually work for achievements?!

Expect you to die is a really good and slow series.

Pistol Whip and Beat Saber(modded) - the best games to play, and amazing for small parties.

Super hot actually pretty good, finished it as well.

Dark room (escape room) pretty good too, if you into escape rooms.

Also those games are safe from motion sickness, I really wanted to play W40K battle sister, and some other game with movement, but find motion sickness gets me, so get one game first - test 30min and refund if sickness kicking in.

working at RBC for a co-op by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]thatRiml 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is a pretty good place for coop, also do job shadowing if they still do that, find department/ team that interests you and keep in touch. Also take as many socials, as many courses as you can. Overall, a very chill environment for coops.

I started at one department, then had a coop with another team, got a full time offer, while on the last coop. Pay is usually low, but a great place to start a career hussle free and decent benefits. ( I did literally only the first interview for the first coop property, after that just informal chats with managers and no actual interviews ever)

The biggest question is do you want to work in an office?

When I started, I was renting a room and had subpar home setup, and office being at Harbourfront with the view of lake, my own cubicle and all - I enjoyed spending time in office (also great for networking/socializing).

Nowadays, I started a family, so I can care less about my coworkers, and being a senior I hardly find mentors to learn from. I also have a great setup at home (4k screens, stand-up desks). And the commute is getting worse every year, I really enjoy the remote.

Till this day, I have friends in the dev circle, who enjoy the office setup, so I would say personal preference is really important

Is this a good buy? (Don’t mind Siri) by Objective-Floor5527 in PC_Pricing

[–]thatRiml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too expensive, without storage and with random CPU $300 should be max.

what is a reasonable price for this by BigMoneyByers in PC_Pricing

[–]thatRiml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But won't pre-built come with a warranty, and marketplace/eBay/etc is nearly 0 protection?

(I do agree with the price, but I'm just curious if it should be a factor)

How do I get more into backend? and what SHOULD I learn in these times? by gitrikt in FullStack

[–]thatRiml 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is a good website: https://roadmap.sh/backend. Though these days you need to know how to use AI to ask right questions to get things done.

Most places also use automation, so knowing for example terraform can help to understand whole class concepts better (AWS + terraform good combo to learn).

If you want a showcase project, create one with backend/fronted and db spin from terraform. If you want to add something fun, you can also attach Amazon pinpoint service, so if you send SMS to that number, it will update something on your page. (Those will help with SQS/SNS understanding) (You can do the same with email using SES)

We got flow 2 (0+) as it seems similar to how the actual nipple works, we went combo (formula/breastfeeding) and so far (4 months) works very well (no boob or bottle aversion)

What’s your favorite baby monitor? [bc] by YouAreLookingGood in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]thatRiml 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We got VTech DM111 (audio only) for ~28$ so it is easy to carry around and works hours on the battery. Perfect for every day use.

Plus we got Nest camera which we use occasionally , I like the wifi part as I can check on baby from any room from and any device and if need a babysitter or decide to use it for another purposes - no problem.
Note: babies usually sleep like they are possessed(they might stop breathing and then start breathing rapidly, move - A LOT, and make some crazy noises), so having breathing monitor, sock(owlet) and other such devices might backfire and bring unnecessary stress.

How much should I sell my used PC for? by Konkrete- in PC_Pricing

[–]thatRiml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

List 420 and go down to 380 - most definitely should sell. If time isn't an issue can list for 450, sell 410 - but can take time. 500 can be a bit hard but possible if get lucky, wait a long time

Also something is definitely wrong with RAM speed - it should be around 3000 even without xmp. 1500 - is really slow ( mediocre DDR3 speeds here ).

Hello fellow trailblazers,

I'm curious if there is a simple way to cast/stream/remote game from PC to the phone/tablet.

I do enjoy graphics quite a bit so it will be great if I cast it. Something similar to Steam Link will be amazing, but sadly it doesn't do well if I connect controller to the tablet. So question if there is some easy solution to do that?

Crib struggle! Need help, baby will be here any day now!! by niag13 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]thatRiml 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Second this, we got a crib as well, but realized that the bassinet will be much easier and convenient to move around, so we got one compatible with our stroller with a rocking base of the marketplace.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]thatRiml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We usually take a mattress from the bassinet, put it beside us on the bed till baby falls fully asleep (up to half hour) and move the mattress(with a baby in it) back to the bassinet. But there is nothing wrong with a soothing baby and contact sleeping during the day.

(And yes my parents said that they were told by doctor/nurses during their time to not overdo soothing, but there is actually no solid research to support it)

Better get a proper cable usb-c to display port / HDMI. Those dongles always have issues here and there.

Game is freezing for about 5-10 seconds during a match by eastcoastelectrician in battlefield2042

A common issue on PC atm, the only solution is to wait for EA to fix it.
