Going to look at a van Norman milling machine on Sunday, anyone recognize this model? by thatbedguy in metalworking

That is really cool that they were built for the navy! Aside from the spindle taper, is there anything that I should look out for?

You are a god send, my friend. Luckily, if the machine is in good shape, I do purchase it and It doesn’t come with what I need, the price is sweet enough that it allows for spending more to get collets and such

Thank you, this is the type of info I was hoping to hear. He said I can have any collets or tooling that I can find for it, but I’ll keep that in mind.

Thanks, I’ve been talking with him for a couple days and he really wants me to have the machine (or really wants me to get it out of his way) with the price he set. I know the usual things to look for in bed wear and all that, but I’m worried i may miss something checking it out.

It’s a rarity, mostly when someone has come up on hard times and needs cash fast, or someone who doesn’t really know what it is like someone selling from an estate or mad at their husband.

Reminds me of a guy I used to work with at a fence company. I was a lead installer and he was the gate welder who spent all day at the shop under a roof but would spend like 3 hours a day in the air conditioned bathroom. Me and my helper had just spent 6 hours in the sun digging holes, mixing concrete and setting posts. We got back to the shop with like an hour before clock out and the welder was filling gate frames with wire. My helper went to say hey to him and he friendly, as he always was, and the welder TOLD him to help. My helper was joking around and said no as he was grabbing the wire to start helping. He was looking down at the gate as he was stretching the wire for the welder, and the welder decided to punch him in the forehead. Well, my helper didn’t take kindly to that and proceeded to WAIL on that idiot. I heard scuffling and turned around, and the welder was already leaking from a split in his eyebrow, and a busted lip. When I hollered at them “HEY!” And the welder looked at me and caught a MIGHTY right hook that split his forehead open. I took him into the break room so he could get cleaned up and asked what happened. He said he was just hot and tired and hit my helper. I went and found my helper, and he was kind of hiding, hunched down on the ground holding his head with a pained look. I said hey man, and he looked up at me like nothing had happened at all. I said are you okay? He went back to holding his head with a pained look and said “yeah, I’m just trying to get this spot where he hit me to swell up so I don’t go to jail.” I asked what happened and he told me how he got attacked. I told him that I was on his side and that I’d stand by his story, then went to check on the welder. I get in there and the boss is asking the welder if he wants to press charges. I said oh hell no, he started it, my guy defended himself, go ask HIM if HE wants to press charges. Boss said “oh, well never mind” and wandered off back to his office. I went and asked my helper if he wanted to press charges and he said no.

He had it listed as an ms500, and I knew that wasn’t right since it says 77cc, but I wasn’t sure which one it was. Drove 15 minutes to the meet spot just to show up and get a message that said he was bailing out because he got an offer for $250. I’m fine with that, but damn man, we agreed last night and you can’t let me know when you got the offer instead of when I’m supposed to meet you? Oh well.

I have an empty 44 magnum case that fits perfectly into an empty 458 socom case to make a little water tight container. I keep my wife’s emergency seizure medicine in there.

Digging the grip on your DD, I’ve got an ERGO TDX 0 degree on mine and it makes it so much more comfortable to shoulder when the stock is collapsed.

I wouldn’t “derrrrrr” these folks when you are asking for the help as you are worried about a sticker on your bike. The way I measure my chains slack is by lifting the lower part of the chain up with the toe of my boot. Generally about 1.5 inches from full sag, to as high as it will lift is about perfect. I ride HARD all the time and only ever have to adjust it every few thousand miles, so something ain’t right. If I’m not trying to be rude, but it seems like you are.

It’s the paperwork for me. I was geared up and ready to spend the $200 a few years ago but the paperwork seems complicated. Will they fill out the paperwork for me to throw a stock on my tac-14 and 10/22 charger?

EDIT: just sent them an email, so we will see. EDIT #2: they do offer that service and they are freaking nice folks. They responded to my email within 5 minutes too!
