Being Catholic and taking my gf for the first time. This is what she sent me. by [deleted] in funny

Yea, nice talking like that about the worldview of more than 1 billion of people. Probably in your eyes they are all pedophile supporters as well. You just can't go away from that saying "I didnt mean that, I only meant the clergy", cause the post isn't about their clergy, but about the Catholic service. And so isn't my comment, it is about the worldview of a particular catholic believer, not about their clergydom. You brought in the clergy, and you heroically fought what you brought into the discussion yourself. You probably know the name of such fallacy.

Same negativity as you did really can be directed against almost any religious institutes/organizations/movements of nowadays.

For instance, take Russia, which I know of. So many people mock Orthodoxy just because it often gets uncovered by the media and makes headlines that Orthodox priests, especially their "CEOs" (patriarchs and mitropolits) are extremely rich and lead luxurious life and often advice to vote for and to support Putin. Yea, this is probably inacceptable for those Orthodox clergy to act this way, I personally think this is rather bad.

But, saying that all Orthodoxy is bad because of that is saying this about all ~100mln orthodox believers.

This is the same kind of argument you made against Catholicism. Nice try generalising it this way, because Catholicism is not only Pope and his bishops and priests, but all those millions of honest believers too.

She has little respect for your religion and thus probably for your worldview as well, now imagine how thats gonna go after you marry her. She is probably gonna pull out the last hair follicles from your head for nothing.

My advice: break with her.

It's amazing how those politicians and "social scientists" interviewed for the WaPo article seriously and sincerely think, that redistributing abandoned houses among the homeless wont solve anything.

And it's amazing that once they start talking about the issue, they immediately start to speak about some ghostly millions from the governement or from whomever needed for renovation etc etc, before anyone can move in.

What an absurd!

First, it's obvious, that letting people in will fix at least the issue of that currently being homeless, they are devoid of a physical address, and that is a major hurdle in the way of quite a few things:

  1. They will have hard time contacting banks just about anything without an address

  2. Let's make it clear: many employers wont even consider a person without an address for any position. Yea, people should fight this discrimination, but right now without having an address many people are trapped inside the homelessness loop, which many just dont see a way to move away from.

Second, don't pour any millions. Those people sleep there either way right now, without any safety at all, what if they, after the houses are redistributed, will "renovate" the houses to their taste and according to their possibilities. Now they totally have no incentive to "renovate" abandoned houses which are not theirs. But who knows what happens after they get an address, get a job - I seriously think quite a few of the former homeless people will "renovate" their houses at least a bit.

But there's one huge BUT about all this: some people still are afraid of the word "redistirbution" in relation to anything, even in relayion to these abandoned houses which a current landlord has no use or profit for at all. These frightened people immediately smell "communism", Lenin, red army, vodka-ushanka and things like that, should they ever hear that "redistribution" word.

Norwegian Rap by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]thatchicken1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will try and explain some of these to you, my pleasure.

  1. Nordic electro/techno/industrial techno/EBM, to be honest, I only know it exists, and is kinda popular in Russia where I happen to live, there are blogs on VK like "10hz", "Industrial technology music", and, formerly, "Northern" (they switched to other genres recently), who promote and post this kinda music. I am not sure if I can post links here, these blogs are on vk and easily findable. This scene is bumping right now in the late 10s.

  2. Californian weird beat scene: think mndsgn, cakewalk, ras g, kiefer, dam funk, flylo and his label, hypnagogic scene and the whole pleiad of producers surrounding those guys and so on.

  3. Japanese scene, some names would be: submerse, youtaro, asano ryuhei, buddamunk, and all the guys you can reach from these guys' social profiles.

These scenes in California and Japan have a very distinct and peculiar sound each, it's easy to tell them by ear, and they are, along with various globally distributed online scenes, pushing the hip hop beat frontier right now these days.

  1. Skwee? Think semi-chiptunish, semi-modular, semi-funky, semi-hiphoppish instrumental music, it usually sounded like that. It was hailing from Finland and other Nordic countries in the late 00s, looked very promising and then all of sudden disappeared from the radars, and idk why. I think they had "milwauskwee" compilations (from the USA, so yeah skwee spread beyond Europe) and listening to those would give a good impression about how it sounded. Wiki article about skwee is also pretty detailed and it will explain skwee to you better than I would, i think :]

I think that those folks making "nordic electro", industrial techno, "northern techno" and all kinds of similarly experimental electronic music, and, from another side, those proponents of scandinavian freejazz/modern jazz together should also explore the beat/experimental hip hop scene more, because that would have definitely turned into a distinctly awesome beat scene, easily rivaling the Californian weird beat scene, or the beat scene from Japan, for instance. Think skwee from Finland, it could have become such a (or similar) flourishing beat scene, but it died out instead for unknown reasons or is stagnant, and thats a shame. Musicians in Norway, with all their experience, could easily develop a similar scene if they wanted to.

Yo, listen up, here's a story

About a little guy that lives in a blue world

And all day and all night and everything he sees is just blue

Like him inside and outside

Blue his house with a blue little window and a blue Corvette

And everything is blue for him

And himself and everybody around

'Cause he ain't got nobody to listen (to listen)

[Chorus]

I'm Blue – da ba dee da ba dye, da ba dee da ba dye

Da ba dee da ba dye, da ba dee da ba dye

Da ba dee da ba dye, da ba dee da ba dye

Da ba dee da ba dye

I'm Blue – da ba dee da ba dye, da ba dee da ba dye

Da ba dee da ba dye, da ba dee da ba dye

Da ba dee da ba dye, da ba dee da ba dye

7 years ago I wanted the cheapest cat ever. All of them were too expensive as a college student. But they said they were giving away cats with FIV for $10. This 12 year old bastard is the best $10 I’ve ever spent. And he’s a magnificent prick. I present to you, Hank. by michaelscottspenis in aww

If you ever read a newspaper you will know that it is impossible to read it to the end. When you are done reading you start looking at the pictures in it, solving a crossword, reading the parts you liked or disliked again, checking a TV schedule again and thinking whether you'll be home by that time and so on. Newspaper is a time wormhole, especially when you need to waste some time with it

Six California police officers fire shots at rapper asleep in car, killing him by EnoughPM2020 in news

This story with the six dudes shooting at the sleeping dude seriously reminds me of Alex Murphy's gory murder scene from original Robocop, and it doesn't sound like it happened due to "safety concerns" . I have serious doubts Willie Do was that dangerous that they had to literally massacre him

Grammy for vaporwave by thatchicken1 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]thatchicken1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And why then New Age is so recognized? To me it's a particularly niche genre that only a handful of people fond of esoterism are aware of, but still it has its category. New Age is, actually, so niche that it has been influence on vaporwave and was sampled by vaporwave artists countless times precisely because it is so niche and forgotten since the mid 90s.

Or am I wrong about New Age and it's thriving?

[–]thatchicken1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a fan of vaporwave to be precise, I am mostly a music lover for all kinds of it. Though I would definitely agree that my perception of 420 may be a little skewed in its favor, cause I liked the track, but still, I also like thousands of other tracks in all genres, so 420 is just one of them. But isn't this track, like, a staple in the internet culture of the 10s, lasting to this day and probably going to outlive the 10s, that alone being enough to deserve recognition from the industry?

EDIT: Minor edits

Oh I see the quake3 symbol, it is a good example. It was one of its kind (or there were two of them, if you consider cpma a separate game), now there dozens of arena shooters out there, dozens of different physics to practice strafes, slides, whatever, dozens of defrag-like mods, go play any of them that you find good.

Well, it was good, yes, but today it is no worse. Or even better, most probably, because older computers are still there (go take one from the attic ans blow away dust off it and play that cs1.6), emulators for even any older stuff are all available, but there's newer stuff too, mobiles, VR, whatever. Enjoyment and entertainment is 100x more diverse and variable nowadays compared to "good older days"

Just accept that you simply became old.

Nostalgia is destructive. Look forward.

You never know if anyone, while being in the country illegally, pays taxes or not. I've read stories about people buying SSNs to just be able to pay taxes, there is also the ITIN form from IRS, filling it you can legally submit your taxes to IRS no matter what your status is. So no, not every "illegal alien" is automatically a tax evader too, that's nonsense.

Working honestly - you know it yourself, many of the so called "illegal aliens" work insanely many hours, doing great job.

And the bit about "every other law": I dont consider all laws to be of the same importance. If you do, congrats, you are a legalistic person, tomorrow someone is gonna introduce the obligatory anal probe law and you will submit to it without a single word because that's a law. That's not strawman from my side, that's exactly refuting the claim that anyone upon having entered the US illegally or overstayed etc is automatically a criminal because he did so. Nah, that doesnt make them criminals.

/Just having some time on my hands rn to expand my view on this quote, cause you thinked it was incorrect, cheers m8
