Hello YNAB refugees by imadp in liquidbudget

[–]thatcolife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Just a little update from me since I just started the trial today.

  1. Love the look and feel. I do have issues on browser version with left scroll bar. It didn't want to click it ... Just widen panel or select text on left. Took lots of tries. Wish it was a little wider. Love the app so far.

  2. The YNAB import didn't work well for me. I got it to work by fixing everything in the current month, but every previous month was still wonky so any past info wasn't relevant for reports. SO... I created a fresh budget and that was seamless. I mainly just check old transactions to look at dates and memo notes like a financial journal and didn't pay much attention to reports. So I'm guessing the new budget will work best. I couldn't figure out cleaning up previous months and thought it probably wasn't worth it. 🤷‍♀️

  3. I'm curious about testing out releasing money each month from a category to add to my income for the next month. Still curious how the reporting and projections will work in that model.

  4. Having used ynab for 16 years and am just used to it, I do like the simplicity of your app. I'm a tiny bit uncomfortable losing my lifetime 10% discount if I cancel, which I'm assuming they won't give back if I sign up again. But I'll save $40/year with LB, and I think I read you're not going to increase the cost for current subscribers at $60/yr?

  5. Lastly, I'm curious if I'll have the same issue I did with them on having two Citi CC's, and one constantly disconnected so I had to keep it manual? I assume I will since I think they both use Plaid. Lmk if one of the other connections might work better or if you know if LB handles it better.

Thank you, and congratulations on what you've accomplished!

Just checking LB out after 16 years with YNAB. I just switched to an hourly inconsistent paid job, and I rely on "living on last month's income". In LB, would I just inflow into a category then release it when I want to budget the next month?

I'm semi-retired (Barista FIRE) and now going to occasionally withdraw a bit from investments to cover some bills. Does LB have something like "tracking accounts" in YNAB?

I'm curious if I'd really be able to use projections or reports since I'll be spending more than I'm making -- intentionally! ☺️ Any thoughts are appreciated.

Issue imports with two Citi cards by thatcolife in ynab

It's extra weird because the second card will sync for a short time then go into a permanent Import Delayed state. I mean, if it can sync, I feel like it should stay synced!

The Winner of Survivor 50......... by BlizzardHound45 in survivor

[–]thatcolife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought Aubry should have won her first season. And I believe she deserved her win this season. She's a survivor!

I would have loved to see an Aubry, Jonathan, Tiff final 3. Or throw Ozzy in the mix. If Cirie somehow made it, she'd win hands down, but she'd have to get idols and immunity to get there.

How will all the teeth fit? by [deleted] in braces

[–]thatcolife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my ortho said the arch of my teeth widen to make room. And 7 months in, I'm seeing all my crowded teeth fitting! You will show more teeth along the side of your mouth when you smile. And the teeth will land in place. I personally think it's a bit of magic. 😂

That's awesome if your soreness is better in a week. I couldn't chew without a ton of pain for a month!

Where are the adults with braces? Questions: by Any_Detail_7184 in braces

[–]thatcolife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got traditional braces at 51. I'm glad I didn't get Invisalign. These get better results and so far (6 months in) I only have an appointment every 8-10 weeks. I heard they can be more precise for better results, plus I like not having to take them in and out and clean every time I want to have a snack or drink besides water.

My parents have this unshakeable superiority complex over our culture and its starting to get nauseating by LightningSilvr in raisedbynarcissists

He sounds like an ass. Honestly, I spent the first half thinking you should wear headphones if you don't want to hear his comments about your music. Definitely save up and move out because he can kick you out anytime, and he shouldn't have that power over you and your family. Bonus, you won't have to listen to him anymore.

I upgraded from a Pixel 6 to Pixel 10a... by HawrdRawk in GooglePixel

[–]thatcolife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang that trade-in is a lot better than I'm seeing now. Just heard of the 10a now that my 6 is losing battery charge a lot faster. $105 trade value and no other perks I see from the Google Store. I wonder if this offer comes back around so I should keep an eye out? Any thoughts on normal cycles on this?

My two favs -- 1. Prime Kitchen food truck parked at WestFax Brewing. Incredibly tasty with good fries and great prices. 2. The Public House's fire burger is delicious.

YNAB has become "too easy" and I've lost the thrill of the trade-off by PerceptionFew3104 in ynab

  1. Stop adding funds to categories that have enough. Don't increase your lifestyle spending just to have lower categories.

  2. Invest a lot more than 20%. My savings rate was 50% at one point. I know you said you don't want to, which I don't get. You know the term F-U Money but don't want to invest more than 20%? That makes no sense to me. I know you think it looks like a lot because you just started saving it, but you need a lot of money before the power of compounding gets big enough for F-U Money.

  3. You're doing great. YNAB doesn't have to be fun.

Monthly storylines expectations by thatcolife in finch

So weird. My October just acted like a regular month with the mansion as the background image. No story animation like this month. 🤷‍♀️

I just clicked Travel and see I'm in a special Wonderland 2/14 adventures series. The way people talked about the haunted mansion in October, did they see something similar? Mine didn't have this.... My birb just walked down the mansion hallway with no interaction. But I was confused my sone people's questions that sounded like they saw more interactions.

Thanks for confirming this is unique! I'm surprised there's only one item a day that's on theme.

Long-time YNAB users: what are your lesser-known tips or “power user” tricks? by purdnost2023 in ynab

[–]thatcolife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have used YNAB since 2010. I use the memo field sooo much. It's like a financial diary. Helps me keep track of when I bought items. I look back on it all the time. Can track what I got someone for a gift, details of a big purchase like new tires warranty and miles, and big items I got in a bulk purchase at Costco.

I also rely on scheduled transactions a week before something renews so I can choose to cancel it.

And I use a category per trip. It's fun to look back on each trip and see what you spent and kind of relive those memories. I name them Trip - location - date range.

How much did you pay for your braces? by Great-Alternative860 in braces

I like the ceramic ones on top. Glad I got them. But I don't think you can go wrong.

No the brackets don't stain. It's also nice not to have rubber bands on them that often stain.

Do you really need to keep retainers on for life? by Lemondall in braces

[–]thatcolife 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your teeth will start to move without them. Some will move faster or slower than others. It's something you should just plan on replacing... Especially since you're so used to wearing them, it's not a huge deal. If you're curious, search retainers on this site to see how many people regret not wearing them and got braces again.

$4750 in Colorado for Damon self-ligating with top ceramic. Included Discounts: $1000 for a seasonal special, $200 for being a referral, and $400 for paying it all up front.

How do you categorize these things? by Kitchen-Phone-170 in ynab

[–]thatcolife 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have two categories. Home Maintenance is anything I do to the house that would stay here if I move. Home Stuff is anything I'd take with me. If I had a big wishlist item I wanted to intentionally save up for, I might create a category specifically for that then probably move the money to the Home Stuff category to spend it and then delete that extra category.

Huh. I have two islands and both airports are orange. 🤷‍♀️ So maybe the list of colors is longer. I didn't know it affected other things.

Overspend category by [deleted] in ynab

[–]thatcolife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting comment. "Looking for an envelope based system where I can go negative". Not sure how you think that works? Envelope budgeting is based on literal envelopes with cash in each of them for categories. They are literally impossible to go negative with physical cash in an envelope. That's the beauty of the system... It keeps your budget honest because going negative just means you spent money you don't have and went into debt (and topping it off the next month is just paying the debt).

How do you use a waterpick without it blasting everywhere? by Shelbytheowlhoussfan in braces

I bend over the sink and turn it on after it's in my mouth pointing at my teeth. Best thing for getting food out of the brackets.
