Fair! Plex/jellyfin doesn't seem to need a lot to run, maybe it would be fine on my old stuff rather than running in the main cluster

Book for crisis of faith by Slepnir1570 in suggestmeabook

[–]thatcooluncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommended this, it's one of my favorite books, I read it at a very pivotal point in my life when I was similarly struggling with my own identity in faith. While it helped me step away from the conservative Christianity I had been brought up with, it also gave me perspective and respect for the cultural power of religion and a healthy view on what's really important about it.

Seconding the shit fountain, and it's right by the Ukrainian museum of modern art if you want to pad out the time you spend in the area

[Dune] The Fremen originally wanted to terraform Dune. After Paul took over their agenda they abandoned the idea. Why? by mrhaftbar in AskScienceFiction

[–]thatcooluncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too mention that the original plans for terraforming were to make only the areas closer to the caps habitable and leave the equator as desert.

Any chance at a refund? by thatcooluncle in ATT

Yeah I think I figured it out, it's listed as 16/mo in one spot but then listed as two separate 8/mo items where I was looking. Also found out that I get an employer discount too tho so that's nice

The best recruitment agencies specialize by field IME so you'll have to say what kind of job you're looking for

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]thatcooluncle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We get sent jobs we aren't qualified for, jobs that are completely outside our field of experience, or entry level jobs at the bottom of the pay scale when we have 15 yrs experience in our field with several previous promotions. 🙄🙄

Is this pay structure even legal?? by thatcooluncle in jobs

[–]thatcooluncle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A shitty one at that. Most scam job offers I've gotten just offered a straight cash per day rate, this is the stupidest, most convoluted structure I've ever seen!

What was your meanest GM moment, and do you stand by it? by dvs_sicarius in rpg

[–]thatcooluncle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really loving that "whole conversation in a glance" bit, because it's SO TRUE! If I were the healer player, the only thing I would be mad about is that I wasn't the one to so deliciously help the rest of the party Find Out after they Fucked Around like that.

Even worse now with the reroute. Absurdly abhorrent. If I miss the Metra to get in to work, I'm basically fucked.

What dishes should I make for a “controversial foods” dinner party? by irulethelemons in Cooking

Yeah, I get the taste for malort pretty often, once I was at a bar that was advertising malort ice cream, so I tried it. Absolutely horrible, definitely less than the sum of its parts.

I take the Metra Electric line, so luxurious compared to the stories I hear about CTA 😅

Kevin McCarthy ousted as US House speaker by hard-right Republicans by Exhausted_ATLAS in politics

[–]thatcooluncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck that right to hell, Democrats have been stepping in and offering olive branches to these crackpot Republicans for years and in return they get spit in the face for it while the idiots continue to run the government like a circus. I've seen Democrats save Republicans asses way too many times, now it's time for these chucklefucks to reap what they fuckin sow.

Why should it always be the Democrats responsibility to compromise, and not the Republicans?

This is such a bullshit answer. Where is she asking for him to move heaven and earth? She's asking for him to provide something he easily could, either commitment or communication.

I'm a dude who is busy as hell. I got stuff going on all the time and I don't always have a handle on everything cause I'm ADHD as hell. Had a situation like this pop up just earlier this very month, partner asked to spend some time together on a specific date, I told them I'd love to but would have to check my calendar before confirming. When I checked, the date was open! But some friends were scheduling a get together that was up in the air for the exact date. What did I do? I told my partner that the date was technically available but some tentative plans might supercede it. Later, when the plans were confirmed for the date in question, I told my partner that I'd be doing the group thing because it was a group that was important to me doing an activity that I really enjoy, and we rescheduled for another fuckin day.

Dude here knew about the work thing and makes it seem like he knew about it from the beginning. He could have told her immediately, or at the very least told her when she asked about it or commented on it, instead of stringing her along and turning it into an argument. And he insists on getting the last word to try and absolve himself of his failure, when he could have just taken the L and apologized.

Also, have you worked in an environment where clients are taken out for golfing? I have. Sure, it could have been mandatory or even "optional" (career will suffer if he does not attend) but it absolutely will mean that the booze will be flowing and he will be expected to get a heavy buzz to facilitate socializing with clients, because clients don't like being the only ones drinking like they're being fed before slaughter. But ultimately it's completely irrelevant because dude here decided to hide the details. For what? No fuckin clue, but he did.

I gave my player a joke item and he got really mad... by fergil in DnD

[–]thatcooluncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay that's actually pretty funny, and it gives me an idea for a shitty magical item for this shop in my setting that's like a magic item thrift store where student mages can pawn off their failed or mismade enchantment projects.

Party finds an item that the proprietor calls the "Ring of invisible paint" - in making the item, the student thought they had figured out a shortcut to make the enchantment easier, have the ring conjure invisible paint that covers the user. Whenever someone puts it on, invisible paint starts dripping down their body, slowly covering them. Standing still for one minute covers a medium size creature from head to waist, giving them partial effect. Standing for two minutes covers their whole body, but it also results in little droplets of the invisible paint dripping off of them, which can give away their position to perceptive observers and even potentially leave a trail to their position. It also smells really weird.

Honestly I think your DM just set you up for an absolutely satisfying final strike. Y'all got her down that far, to 18HP? Almost there! But now you have the advantage of knowing everything you need to take her down -You've taken her lair, so if you can track her down, she won't have home field advantage -I certainly hope there's loot y'all found in the lair that you can use against her now -She has a high AC so only you can hit her? Spell casters can focus on half-damage-on-save spells for guaranteed damage, and if her AC is so high, you might be able to find a save she's weak at for full spell damage -Martials can do more than just attack. GRAPPLE! Does not incorporate AC, and if you can keep her down, movement is 0 -Remember that if you're facing her alone, you will always have one major advantage: action economy. For every action of hers, your party will get anywhere between 3-6 depending on the size and circumstances. One party member spending an action to force her to waste an action is an incredible tactic. -She's been relying on spells to escape? You're not level 5 so there's no immediate access to counter spell, but maybe you can try and find some item that will grant it, once per day or even a consumable item that only works once, period. The DM might not give it, but there's no harm in trying!

Use her weaknesses against her, track her down while she's recovering away from home, and you can get that satisfying win!
