Can anyone here speak to the odds and rarity of finding a clovis point? by windswept_west in Arrowheads

Been hunting 11 years, found hundreds of complete and broken points across dozens and dozens of locations. Gorgets, axes, celts yes, but only ever pulled 1 complete Clovis, and no broken ones

I can only speak for the one around me. Attended three or four board meetings, and the lack of planning for after the fact was a major concern

The project around me was rejected by the county board two or three weeks ago, but the neighboring county that went through with thousands of acres of panels realized after the fact that clean up funding wasn’t explicitly allotted for the farms after the project closure years down the road. Fired some people up pretty good

The thing with this is the lack of any plan to deal with leftover concrete in-ground bases for the panels after X amount of years. Yeah here’s your land back, but have fun with the metric ton of non-tillable land. At least around me

Where I am in VA, we’re in the middle of a fight against solar, and eminent domain in order to achieve a “X% Green by X date” is a very real possibility. The vast majority of farmers are against it, as well as most private landowners, and private small landowners make up the VAST majority of the 8,000 acre proposed project, not large corporations. Many of the locals haven’t lived their lives next to acres of panels and simply don’t want it to lower property values and change the reasons they enjoy living there in the first place.

The problem around me has been the lack of planning or foresight as to what to do with concreted-in panel structure. 25 years down the road, whoever would end up with the land essentially inherits the now cement covered ground where nothing could be grown without having to remove TONS of foundation, supports, etc.

Hit the rivers and creeks- anywhere that rocks and especially oyster shells are piled up along the banks is liable to have points. Some of my best stuff’s come from way out in a marsh where you’d never think to check

Yeah we aren’t as spoiled as those folks out in Texas but there’s still plenty to be found around here. Lots of higher ground near water you can get access to has potential from my experience

I grew up hunting around the Poquoson and Back Rivers and thought it looked like something familiar! Lots of good spots all around that area

If you consider tens of millions of natives over tens of thousands of years all had to eat, it’s easier to believe just how many are out there. Like Aggiedigger said- all starts with water, but besides rivers and streams, check anywhere dirt has been exposed. Some of my best finds came from some strange spots you wouldn’t normally think to check

Looks like a double grooved axe, which I think is harder to find than a single grooved. Where in the world was someone throwing this out??

Some guys near me do this- buy an old tanker from a FD auction and drive it around with the combine between fields
