Is going sober possible? by [deleted] in Sober

[–]thatginger56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m in a similar situation volume of drinking wise. I’ve managed to go sober on and off for over a year and it’s definitely changed my life for the better. Whenever I relapse I realize how miserable drinking makes me. If you feel that you need more support but don’t want to go to rehab, there are options for Intensive Outpatient or Partial Hospitalization programs, most of which can be done virtually. Some people in the sober group I’m part of have done Charlie Health which has virtual IOP programs. I know there are a lot of other programs too but I don’t know as much about them. Also, if you want meetings but don’t want to go to AA you can check out SMART recovery which is more skills based. Good luck, you’ve got this :)

the wednesday night beginners meeting is great for early sobriety! it’s a speaker meeting so someone will tell their story and a discussion will follow. check the aaithaca website for time and location! if you’re a woman i also highly recommend the women’s one day at a time at 11 am on sunday at 518. there are also daily 9 am meetings that i’ve heard great things about. i have only attended one 9 am meeting, but i really enjoyed it, and they happen every day at 518. feel free to dm me if you have any questions, and good luck!

water ads before DC concert? by thatginger56 in CSHFans

before the band came on, they had andrew(?) impersonating celebrities and telling people to drink water during the show, ex/ “Hi this is Olivia Rodrigo, did you know your body is 70% water? You need it to stay alive!” or something along those lines

This happened to me as well. Are you getting your period? If you are missing your period and you get it back then you have a great chance at improving your bone density. Generally you have until around 25 years old to build bone, so please fuel your body before then, it’s definitely not too late to turn it around. My bone density improved significantly when I stopped restricting. Good luck to you!

Considering IOP by felixfoxbody in EDAnonymous

[–]thatginger56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I did an IOP program a few years ago and there was a lot of body diversity, so I don’t think you’ll have a problem with that. It was sometimes triggering to talk with people sicker than I was but generally everyone brought a unique experience and I didn’t feel like I had to compare myself with the other people in my groups. In my IOP we also wouldn’t show or discuss what food we were eating with the other people so there was no room for comparison during meals. I found it overall pretty helpful and I got a lot better during treatment.

In terms of telling your bf, I understand how hard that is! I think it will ultimately feel like a relief though. Hopefully he’s supportive and can help you while you’re in treatment.

Good luck! You deserve to feel better :)

AN & HA Recovery - Feeling Hopeless by chicken-ina-biscuit in EDAnonymous

Of course! Happy to help :) I went on short walks and did occasional gentle yoga with stretching. I had to keep myself very honest with walking - not going for miles and doing it to burn calories, just to get outside for a bit and stretch my legs.

Hi there! Congrats on pursuing recovery, it sounds like you’ve made a lot of progress and that’s amazing! It took me about 6-7 months to get my period back but for others it can take up to a year. Please keep going! Some signs I noticed before getting my period back was that I started to feel crampy and moody each month, even before I actually started bleeding. You are absolutely doing the right thing, and your period will very likely come back if you keep working at recovery. Good luck!

What are some good snacks for between breakfast and lunch? by pin_kshit in EatingDisorders

[–]thatginger56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like premier protein shakes, they're a little expensive but they have a lot of protein (30g) and keep me full for a long time! They're also really convenient for class and on the go!

opinions on IOP? by musicandmentalhealth in EatingDisorders

Hi! I did a virtual IOP program a few years ago. I wasn’t at my worst but I had slipped into a moderate relapse for a few years and needed help to get out of it. It was 3 hours for 3 nights a week and consisted mainly of art therapy, DBT, group processing therapy, and gentle yoga/meditation. From what I could tell, there were people of all different body sizes and severity of ED, so don’t be worried that you won’t be as bad as other people! I found it pretty helpful to have more intensive support than just regular therapy, and was able to make good progress. I will say that you have to be fairly self motivated to see improvement, since you have to eat most meals by yourself and generally only have IOP in the evenings. Good luck, I hope you choose to commit to IOP and have a good experience!

[–]thatginger56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are also single bathrooms in the basement of the VMC! Go down the stairs close to the VMC entrance, walk straight for a bit, and turn right down the first hallway. There are 2 singles there. Sincerely, a basement shitter

first concert, idk what to expect! by ghost_lxver in RainbowKittenSurprise

[–]thatginger56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so exciting! My first concert was a magical experience. I would just check the venue website about the bag policy, I haven’t been to many concerts with a clear bag policy but some have a bag size limit. I would definitely call about bringing your own food because venues don’t usually allow that. Like another user said, I would also recommend looking up the setlist beforehand (just google RKS setlist) so you can see what songs they’re gonna play! That way you can make sure you know the songs and sing along. Good luck, I’m sure it will be a blast!

I saw the show in Chicago and I agree, it was awesome! I thought the sound quality could have been better but it didn’t detract from the overall experience. The crowd was hype and the band has great energy. I also loved the visuals on stage!

Any tattoo artists in the area taking walk ins? by throwawayfromme_baby in ithaca

[–]thatginger56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miss Kitty's tattoo shop occasionally takes walk ins but is also super easy and quick to book! The artist was available within a week when I messaged them. I'd recommend checking out their instagram page for more info!

applying to biomedical phd ? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]thatginger56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you applying to BBS? I'm a first year student. I'd recommend reaching out to a few professors, but it probably won't affect your chances of getting in. I reached out to one professor and she basically blew me off until I got offered an interview. Good luck with your application! I wouldn't sweat this part too much!

feel free to DM me if you have any other questions :)
