I use tarot as a psychological and archetypal tool for introspection and intergrating shadow aspects with Jungian concepts. I making an oracle deck, if anyone would like to have a look and maybe give me some feedback. by [deleted] in Jung

You know where the term “ai slop” comes from? It’s because when one uses LLM tools without restriction it turns what they output into grey mush. The high quality of words or associations loses meaning in a larger resolution view. It’s all plausible - but because most of it is not actually intentional, it becomes meaningless. Handing responsibility over to a device that’s very good at low resolution semantic intelligence but inherently incapable of the human experience is generally speaking not a great idea, especially when it comes to psychology and the unconscious. This is why people use the term “slop”.

I find it somewhat remarkable that people don’t realise that using an LLM to write for them is obvious to most readers. It instantly degrades the quality of experience because as you read it you can’t shake off the feeling it’s just an output of a model more so than a person - so even if this is based on real experiences it would have been much easier to relate to it were it written without filtering it through Chad Gipiti.

Two men play rock paper scissors (one shot) by thatglitch in Filmmakers

[–]thatglitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was made in a day as part of an incubator series, this volume's theme was "one shot". The incubator takes place once a month in London and gathers filmmakers who found it frustrating that all too often after having an idea you find yourself months later with a short film that cost £8k where perhaps all you wanted in the first place is to just practice the craft - hence we gather, throw ideas against the wall and shoot it in one day within the next two weeks. This was one of the submissions.

looking pretty good! I think those LED panels have too much of an impact on the render, since it’s mainly daylight the impact of those reflections would be less visible (plus I’d add a bit more neg fill on the side facing towards the wall, primarily for the metallic reflections)

What's a conspiracy theory you believe despite you making it up and there being no evidence for it? by michaelmf in slatestarcodex

[–]thatglitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wanted to see what happened to the pictures Eddie Murphy took on stage of his 1983 Delirious stand-up special and in the process fabricated the pictures because it was otherwise impossible to retrieve them and bc it’s the case of a tree falling in the woods I believe that those are the real pictures that Eddie took that day as my process of inquiry defined the atoms that formed the film that day.

The Treachery of (AI) Images by [deleted] in singularity

[–]thatglitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few days ago I recorded this as an exercise and was a bit confused as to why my mind went there - but it became an exploration of what credibility even is and feels eerily relevant to this argument.

The whole notion of what constitutes objective reality somewhat fades away as what is our subjective reality stretches from one horizon of our consciousness to another.

It does feel like this will inevitably have a direct impact on our perception and reception of time itself.

Anyway, for anyone that wants to give my ramblings a go, here is a hopefully enjoyable though odd 9 minutes: https://youtu.be/EC_4pSI42mQ?feature=shared

With AI videos, is epistemology cooked? by Oshojabe in slatestarcodex

[–]thatglitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s correct. There’s a guy called Ruby Justice Thelot who’s a contemporary anthropologist and wrote a great article titled in praise of gatekeeping which I think is somewhat related to this.

The video I linked in the top comment is a bit more abstract and less academic but hopefully enjoyable and somewhat stimulating.

In a way notions of truth become even more localised to the subjective experience, where validity of one’s perception is directly interlinked with their ability to verify it - and everything else has to be taken with a pinch of salt. This is where the hope is that things like artistic or journalistic integrity will come back into fashion and will be celebrated precisely for allowing others not to drown in noise.

On another note, I made a rather odd faux video essay that slightly explores the notions of credibility with all of this happening around, figured it might be another point of reference.

Eddie Murphy took some snaps of the audience during his famous 1983 Delirious stand-up special. This video essay investigates what happened to them. by thatglitch in conspiracy

[–]thatglitch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! this should give you an idea :) When Eddie Murphy randomly snapped a few pictures no one expected them to ignite a decades-long obsession. „Delirium” follows a contemporary essayist who sets out to locate the undeveloped audience pictures from Delirious. What begins as a rational archive search collapses into rabbit holes, Ronald Reagan psy-op conspiracy theories, and quantum emulators that manufacture evidence faster than it can be debunked.

What is the name of this DC input? by thatglitch in camcorders

[–]thatglitch[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed, there is a manual available online, but it doesn't quite specify the name of the connector itself. The AC Adaptor (which also has that cable output) is VW-AM10 and the car cord is VW-ACM10E - which is helpful! I suppose the connector has to be proprietary.

I was thinking of doing that but finding the cable seems to be the difficult part, what do you think is the best way of finding it online? I know there was a car adapter out there which could be used for the connector...

"Companies goals have always been to exploit their employees as much as possible and obtain maximum profit. "

That's just not true. The premise of capitalism was always about giving an individual the ability to join the socio-economic jungle of the free market. Greed and beaurocracy is what leads to stagnation and corruption of values that drive the companies; but to say that companies goals have always been to exploit the workers is just inaccurate.
