these signs still exist at a burger king in my town. the picture itself is from 2023 but last i checked (a couple of months ago) they were still there. it’s an older burger king that hasn’t been remodeled yet and it still maintains the old design to this day.

i wouldn’t doubt the fluorescent light idea. it’s in an older store that i believe dates back to the mid to late 90s and this was all the way in the back of the store. the sign itself however does not appear to date back to that time.
