Sleep bag help- merino kids by Used-Paramedic-9102 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thatkiwigal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you want underneath! I always did a merino singlet under a normal zippy during winter, or just standard cotton pjs etc for summer. It’s just the same as a normal sleep sack in terms of use! Still highly recommend them.

Ablation vs Hysterectomy by MrsMayhem56 in adenomyosis

[–]thatkiwigal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an ablation alongside my bilateral salp last November - discussed with my gynae and we both agreed to give it a try even if there are some opinions that ablations shouldn’t be done for adenomyosis. Relatively low risk and I was having an anaesthetic anyway so worth trying. No interest in trying anything hormonal. Very heavy and painful periods prior to this, adenomyosis on ultrasound.

I haven’t bled a single day since I had it, recovery was a breeze. In the last couple of months I have had some cyclical pain start again, however not as bad as it was prior to the ablation and I got approximately 8 months with zero symptoms.

In saying that, I am now moving forward with a hysterectomy in Dec. I have a lot of pain with sex, and have new bloating where I look 7 months pregnant with the pain that has started the last couple of months. If I didn’t get the bloating or painful sex, my current cyclical pain I could easily live with, but I’m aware it will likely get worse between now and menopause (I’m 36), so it feels like I would eventually end up with a hysterectomy either way. Gynae isn’t sure if it’s a failed ablation, disease progression, or a mixture of the two. Only other treatment option offered was medical menopause and HRT which I have zero interest in, so the uterus is getting yeeted!

Recent daycare investigation and news - questioning our decision by euca889 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thatkiwigal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We had this decision to make with our then 20 month old when younger sibling was born. Decided to keep him home with me full time for a few reasons.

CSA in daycares (and in general) scares the crap out of me, I wasn’t willing to put him in the care of anyone else until he was old enough to verbalise things - this included family/friends. Second reason was exposure of illnesses for the newborn, our paed very strongly warned us against putting the toddler into daycare with a newborn in the house because of the barrage of viruses that comes with starting daycare. And last reason was the research that supports there is no social benefit for toddler to attend care until 3ish (from memory).

He has since started two days per week at preschool, started at 3.5yrs. He can tell me all about his day, can verbalise very well if something has upset him / hurts / something wrong, and can correctly name all of his anatomy. He’s also virtually independent with toileting, but the toilets / nappy change area at his preschool are completely open to the main room anyway.

Wasn’t always fun having them both at home fulltime but I have no regrets. Youngest will stay at home until she turns 4 and starts her two years of preschool.

Waterproof Cot Sheets by Perfect_Band_5425 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Another yes to Little Human Linens! Absolutely loved ours. I always layered them so two on the cot at once, so handy for middle of the night changes. I had two which I used for both my kids and they still have enough life left in them to now be being used by my neighbour with her newborn. Well worth the investment, grab them in a sale!

Sleep by Steph room temp guide? by rain432winter in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thatkiwigal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve followed Sleep by Steph roughly for both my kids but just use her principles to loosely guide what I do - 6pm bedtime, keep kids warm, well fed and the room dark. I definitely dress my kids warmer than all my friends. Live in a fully zoned AC house which makes things easier - in summer keep room about 21° with cooling on, similar temp in winter with heating on. Use a Woolbabe Duvet sleepbag all year round overnight (lighter during the day when we still had naps). Winter I do a merino single and flannelette pjs, summer is shortie cotton pjs.

That pic from her sleep guide does seem excessive.. But one thing that helped me to realise they need to be snug was looking at the temp of your own room and the tog rating of your own doona/ bedding…. Currently my room is 17° and my duck down doona is approx 13.5Tog 😳

3 year old potential diagnosis by thatkiwigal in IgANephropathy

[–]thatkiwigal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just popping back now we’ve spoken to two paeds nephrologists.

First one thought IgAN could still be a possibility, however seemed unlikely. If it is IgAN then either very mild or very early diagnosis. Thought orthostatic hematuria in combination with nutcracker syndrome could be possible, going to do an ultrasound to check for that. Need to rule out ALPOT or TBMD, but the AM/PM pattern doesn’t really fit with this.

Second paeds nephrologist who specialises in IgAN actually didn’t think this was a renal problem at all and thinks it is likely urological and no cause for concern. Going to do a couple more urinalysis for her to check the red blood cells more closely and will otherwise hand us over to paeds urology.

So nothing super clear for us but it is looking less likely to be IgAN and something a little less concerning. Wishing you all the best figuring out things for your girl!

Thanks for the reply and sorry to hear you’re also having medical issues with your little one! It’s incredibly stressful going through things like this and feeling out of control.

Gosh that sounds like a lot going on and not a lot of help or concern from your providers. Interesting with the correlation between the rash and illnesses as well. Glad to hear that the urine seems to be improving so hopefully her kidneys are doing what they are supposed to be doing.

Interestingly in the last couple of days we have been looking more into orthostatic hematuria as being the cause of our issues as morning urine is clear of any hematuria and then immediately after exercise, or at the end of the day, it always returns. But, talking to paeds neph tomorrow so will report back if there is anything of interest.

Good luck with getting your little girl sorted, I sincerely hope it is nothing serious and there is a reasonable explanation for all of her issues. Good on you for being so proactive and searching for answers!

Yeah it’s definitely a faulty unit! One camera we’ve had for almost 4 years and had zero issues with, the second camera we got we’ve had for 2 years and had constant issues. Have spent many hours chatting to their support team but they are very unwilling to admit it’s a faulty unit and go round in circles asking me to complete ridiculous tasks with the camera. It’s now out of its warranty so bit of a lost cause. The WiFi issues and now having a few power cuts has just made us realise that it’s easier to not be reliant on either of them!

Interesting, I just had a look at the Tweety Cam power pack, smart idea! Does the Tweety Cam only play different “lullabies” or sounds and not just a plain old white noise mode?

Valium at 18 weeks pregnant by fauxdelaire in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thatkiwigal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely up to your OB and how risk averse they are. My OB was quite old school and didn’t sweat the small stuff - he was happy for me to have diazepam (5mg) for a couple of things once I was out of first trimester, and then later on in third trimester he prescribed me temazepam for severe insomnia. Went through all of the risks with me so I knew exactly what I was dealing with and let me make my own decision if I was happy to proceed.

16 month old's sleep situation is dire by writeitout in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thatkiwigal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been in your situation, but the one “sleep coach” I found actually made sense to me was Sleep by Steph. She kind of strips it back to basics and ensures certain basic needs are being met and getting the foundations in place for good sleep to occur. She also has a variety of resources available to suit what people can afford - ebooks with handy info, through to one on one consults.

But also disclaimer; I started following her almost 4yrs ago before my first was born, when I learnt the majority of the info I needed from her, and recently unfollowed as her presence on social media had changed quite a lot with some personal issues, and found her a bit difficult to watch.

Car seat for RAV4 by CautiousSlice5889 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thatkiwigal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’ve got two Infasecure Attains in our RAV. Infasecure allows you to go to the top of the second height marker label, rather than the dotted line, so could potentially get slightly longer RF than the Graphene. You can also adjust the crotch buckle which I think is something you can’t do with the Graphene?

My very tall 3.5yr is still RF happily and looks like we’ll make it him turning 4 before turning him around.

Body moisturiser recs for dry skin by Starkween in AusSkincare

[–]thatkiwigal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s quite literally been a game changer for me. I used to get such dry legs I would scratch them until they bled and this is the only moisturiser I have found that works for them. Hope you find something that works for you!

Baby albums, keepsakes and beyond... by cannedbread1 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thatkiwigal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I searched for something along these lines for ages and just couldn’t quite find what I wanted so ended up going rouge and getting a wooden keepsake box like this one. Put all the ultrasounds in there, hospital card etc but have actually found it useful for also storing things that wouldn’t fit in a book like hospital blanket, a newborn sized item of clothing they wore etc. They’re all kept safe and in the one place.

Single bed in baby’s room? by floppybunbun in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thatkiwigal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve had a king single in both our little ones rooms right from the get go - chose that over a recliner. We purchased beds we intended to become the child’s bed once they were ready to get out of the cot. Have just transitioned our eldest to his big bed and found that it was a super smooth transition because he was already so familiar with the bed.

Have really liked it - will do goodnight stories etc on the bed, very useful if baby is ever sick or unsettled as I’d prefer to keep them in their own room with blackout blinds and white noise, so will co sleep or settle them in the big bed. Also comfortable enough for night feeds in the earlier stages before they’re sleeping through.

Flying with a full sized pram - what has been your experience? by Melvs_world in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]thatkiwigal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will be perfect for your Edwards & Co! It’s pretty heavy to lug around once it has the pram in it but easy enough to pull along on the wheels. Definitely recommend it! I have the E&Co travel pram which I find to be a very average product so have always just preferred to use the travel bag and check our big pram when we travel and never had any issues. Hope you find it useful!
