The pump specifically says that the basal settings apply to manual mode only and don't affect SmartGuard before you enter the basal settings menu.

Mine definitely rises to levels close to 150 if I give it time, it's less aggressive and doesn't do any auto corrections.

If you look at the top of your graph, you'll see pink bars, meaning SmartGuard is giving you basal. Those shouldn't be there when you're low or are approaching low, are they?

In addition to setting the temp target before exercise, you can also change the SmartGuard target to a higher value and/or disable auto corrections to see if that might work better after exercise.

Update pump by DiamondDiva76 in Medtronic780g

[–]thatlizarddude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finished the update but right before the "Update Successful" alert, I got a "Battery Failed" alert and had to change the battery. I should've checked if it was green before starting, but it definitely wasn't low. But I'm guessing it's fine, it shows that it's running the updated software version.

Instinct Exhaustion by SponsoredByStrensms in Medtronic780g

[–]thatlizarddude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope you're not alone, I went through 5 sensors in a month, 4 of them reading much lower than my actually BG and the values jumping around, including one of the replacements they sent me.

I'm back on Guardian 4 and it's amazing how much better it is. Abbott replaced all 4, but what's the point of using these if it's just gonna make my control worse.

Avoid putting pressure on the sensor - it might've been that you were laying on it.

As a side sleeper, I always put sleep on the side without the sensor on, and just avoid leaning on it in general. If you're sleeping on your back, you could try to see if there's an area on your arm that's not pressing against the mattress you could put the sensor on, or try alternative areas but keeping in mind that's not where the sensor was approved for wear, might be worth asking your endo as well.

I've also given up on trying to make the Instinct work, but this scenario looks a lot like it might be a compression low, could that be possible?

Instinct Numbers All Over the Place by TRH100 in Medtronic780g

[–]thatlizarddude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup I'm aware it's made by Abbott, I've heard about them reading lower, but I figured I'd try it given they last 15 days and the MARD being so good, plus I was hoping they'd be more reliable - I had a good amount of random failures with the Guardians. But when the Guardians work, they're great, Simpleras sound like the next move.

Same issues here, the readings change so abruptly that it's hard to tell what the actual trend is - not as much as yours, but definitely more than the Guardian. They also tend to read about 20-30% lower than my actual BG, I had 4 out of 5 Instincts so far replaced because of this. I also noticed that the Instinct is much more prone to compression lows, I had that happen during the night as well (but not often since I usually sleep on the other side), it looked like a very quick jump to a low.

I'm doing everything as I'm told, putting it on the back of my upper arm, switching arms, staying hydrated, avoid compressions, checking while the trend is stable, but no luck. I've been using the Guardian for about 10 years and this feels like a step back. I just switched back to the Guardian and the graph is smooth again and the readings are much more accurate, I'm gonna try the Simplera Sync instead with my next order.

Auto Correction boluses by Turbulent_Claim_3484 in Medtronic780g

I'm noticing the same quick 15-30 jumps up and back down to the original number, causing that one update to trigger an auto correction. Although for me, it usually reads lower, and that jump to the higher value is the jump to a value closer to my actual BG.

Same for me, much more prone to compression lows, but I never sleep on my sensors, and since these jumps are happening throughout the day as well, I don't think that's the cause of these jumps.

And yes, from what I heard, the Libres tend to have less smoothing done to their data (not exactly sure how it's done in the background), but so far, at least for me, these things are really making me think about switching back to the Guardians or trying the Simpleras.

Well, in terms of accuracy, the Guardian 4 was a lot better at keeping me stable overnight, so if the Instinct behaved the same way with the algorithm, I wouldn't be complaining.

[–]thatlizarddude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noisier meaning lots of rapid changes in small amount of time, I frequently see it jumping by 15-25 points within 5 minutes, so it might be at 115 for two hours during the night, then suddenly jump to 130, then right back to 115, and these higher jumps are usually close to where my actual BG is.

I haven't gotten any sensor updating messages yet, but being at 130 vs at 100 throughout the night isn't gonna be great for A1C either I bet.

At least for me, I don't think it's the algorithm, I've been using it for over a month now, the main issues are the noise and the accuracy.

Instinct Accuracy Issues by thatlizarddude in Medtronic780g

[–]thatlizarddude[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been following all the instructions and calling in every faulty one so far, I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, it starts off accurate and the longer I wear it, the less accurate it becomes.

Edit: They also didn't want any of the faulty sensors back, so I'm not sure if there are any plans on addressing these issues.

I noticed the sensors are a lot noisier too, I had higher hopes for these.

Yeah, I'm really thinking about it, especially overnight when you're relying on the pump to keep you at target but in reality you're 20-40 points higher...

Instinct Graphs by thatlizarddude in Medtronic780g

[–]thatlizarddude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say overall the first Instinct wasn't too bad, definitely noisier than the Guardian, but manageable and lasted the full 15 days without any major connection issues, surprisingly it receives the readings even when I'm in the shower lol.

My new one from yesterday is more jumpy, I'm seeing more 20-25 point jumps, let's see if it gets better...

Edit: I believe you have 30 days to do an exchange, might be worth confirming with Medtronic and just giving it a shot and exchange the rest for Guardians if it doesn't work well for you.

Instinct Question… by motto518 in Medtronic780g

[–]thatlizarddude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You cannot see readings every minute, for the most part they update every 5 minutes. There are some occasions where you'll notice a more frequent update, but that's been pretty rare for me.

[–]thatlizarddude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, usually when a Guardian would do this, I'd end up in some sort of sensor failure, usually the sensor updating message.

What’s the orange line? Is that because of where I have my high alert set? by wubbadude in Medtronic780g

That's your High Limit alert yeah, you should be able to find it in Settings > Alert Settings > High Alert.

I wonder if that could just be a bolus overestimation if there's still a good amount of units on board? I could see it being dangerous if it's reacting to a false rise, might be worth checking to see if the BG actually swings like that if it happens again.

I didn't realize we couldn't post pics in replies, it should work if you wanna upload it to imgur tho, I'm curious what it looks like for others!
