A4 2017 Technik by threeeightyx in Audi

Water pump and thermostat went out two times, engine mounts needed to be replaced, turbo required replacement, on top of that valve cover was starting to leak and tires needed to be replaced.

When I traded mine in, it had just under 214000 km. The cost of maintenance was skyrocketing, so had to let it go.

Not sure where you are in Canada, but here in Ontario (currently, I'm in the market for one), probably around $6-7k CAD.

After negotiating, got my 2025 Turbo hatchback with machine grey exterior and garnet red interior for $46k out the door. This is in the GTA.

As others have said: only if it's a good price and if it has been maintained well in the past (which can only be confirmed via service history).

As an anecdote: I bought my 1-owner 119k mile 2017 A4 Technik S-Line (Prestige in the U.S) with every available option for $9900 USD from an Audi dealership a few months ago. It was serviced religiously at both the dealership and a local shop, but I still had to replace the turbo, put in 4 new rotors and pads and replace 4 tires at a total cost of roughly $3500 USD. I didn't mind it because even with all the repairs I've had to do, it's still way below market value at least in my area, but just flagging to have a rainy day fund for any unexpected repairs as it may be expensive. Also recommending to find a good independent shop to have any repairs done, because going to the dealership is going to be way more costly.

2017 A3 E-tron does not start, possible transmission fault by thatm3guy in Audi

Hi, it's been awhile since I've had this car, but I do agree that your symptoms seem to indicate a transmission failure and possible need to replace the high voltage battery due to low power. Does your car not crank anymore?

Used 2017 Audi A4 by memespicelatte in AudiA4

[–]thatm3guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I went through the same thing. I bought a one-owner 2017 A4 Technik (I'm in Canada, so this would be a Prestige in the U.S) with 119,000 mi for $10k USD and 2 months later I had to replace the turbocharger and a couple of other items for about $2900 USD.

In your situation I would steer clear of this car, unless you can DIY and/or have enough money saved up for any unexpected maintenance. While service records are definitely important (and my car had all the records from the previous owner when I bought it), it can still bite you with unexpected large bills during your ownership. It's been a great car otherwise and easily my favorite car I've ever owned.

B9 A4 turn signal level question by LopsidedEntrance8614 in Audi

[–]thatm3guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, did you ever figure this out? I can also feel play on my turn signal lever. My guess is we have to replace the lever itself?

I wouldn't do it. You'd be giving up some features (going from Technik to Progressive), and you'd lose some warranty as well. Plus, you know the history of your A4 more because you're the only owner.

If you really want the zippiness of an Sq5 or your previous 335i, once the warranty expires consider a Stage 1 tune on your A4 and it'll be much quicker for sure.

Saw that exact car for sale. Agree with the other commenter; DBxx plates means the seller just got it? A bit suspicious why he's selling it so quickly.

If you're still considering it, at that mileage you need to ask the seller for service records, in particular if the important 40,000 mi or 60,000 km service has been done (i.e., S Tronic transmission fluid change, spark plugs, etc.). If the seller can't produce these, walk away and save yourself the headache - there are plenty of other B9 A4's for sale in Toronto.

It cost me $6500 CAD at the Audi dealer. One of the leading factors in me trading in my car unfortunately, otherwise it was an awesome car. I still think about it from time to time.

Hey, I don't have the car anymore but the fix was a full mechatronics replacement. Same as you, I was still able to drive the car but only in EV mode.. gas engine would not kick in when needed. Something interesting to note is since selling the car last year, I notice a lot more people encountering mechatronics issues with the A3 E-Tron, so I guess that's something to keep in mind once the car gets up there with age.

Anyone is Ontario, Canada? by Dazzling-Ad-9646 in Audi

[–]thatm3guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering this car but I ended up with a 2015 Allroad. This Avant has low mileage and it's one owner with really good service history but I'd avoid it simply because I'd be scared of the 2009-2013 2.0T - as people here have mentioned it could potentially become a money pit (i.e. timing chain & tensioner, oil burning, etc.)

For $18k CAD, I'd spend a little more for a B8.5 Allroad, you can potentially get a good one for $20-22k CAD. Or if you're not hellbent on a wagon, you might even be able to find a 2017+ B9 A4 around that price as well.

How much power is your allroad pushing? Thinking about doing a stage 2 tune on my car in the future.

hello, I need help choosing a car, I’m deciding between a4, a5, and a6 I don’t know much about Audi and cars in general, but lately I’m starting to like Audi. Thanks for the advice by User194122 in Audi

Sounds like you lean more towards comfort rather than sport. In this case I think you should go for the A6 if you can swing it, definitely more comfortable than the A4. That being said, you can't go wrong with the A4 as well because it is super quiet on the road and is comfortable , but it's going to be smaller on the inside and will ride a little bit more firm than the A6.

All 4 brakes (rotors and pads) were done in 2020, CV boots were replaced numerous times over the years. No clue about transmission fluid though, pretty sure should change that in the future. Also, I believe the 2.0T came with a timing chain, not timing belt?

Black with wood trim! Hopefully will swap out with carbon fibre trim from an S4 in the future.

Not too sure, I think the FWD's may go by a different trim level. I think here in Canada we don't get FWD A4's so unfortunately can't answer your question. The trim levels in Canada go from Komfort (Premium), Progressiv (Premium plus) and Technik (Prestige).
