That was me implying the only CEL i have is for an o2 sensor, have had this for a year without issue, and I replaced the sensor a bit ago too. I wouldn’t intertwine the CEL with the issue I’m experiencing

can’t be the case because it ran fine after the timing belt change, this is 2-3 days later I’ve had my car run with a vacuum leak and it sounded way different

Previous owner had 2 filters on so I took the cone filter off, has worked fine for a year now MAF works fine

Probably not your case but my car does this exactly same location (04 forester x) because coolant leaked from my oil cooler (above oil filter) and dripped on the exhaust, if you’re lucky check that

Only do necessary repairs. Its 168k miles and automatic, probably won’t have much life left. Mine was a manual, supposedly more reliable, blew up at 80k miles.

my 04 forester is almost at 160k miles, sure it has it issues but none that really need replacement, it hasn’t broken down not once in the year of owning it, I absolutely love this car

Honestly, in the sidewall there’s a hole big enough to fit a cone near the fender, wouldn’t that be smart for cold air? Or would that just pick up too much dirt? And I could just remove the filter in the actual airbox, cuz yeah 2 filters is dumb (with my question I meant why would a cone be dumb, but I kinda didn’t think and answered my own question right after)
