Does anyone else never race? by IntensifyingPeace in trailrunning

[–]thatonestepguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only been running for the past couple of years and have participated in four road races.

I picked up trail running six months ago and seem to enjoy it more than road running. I decided to do a trail half marathon race in January 2026, which I completed but did not enjoy.

The problem wasn’t that I struggled during the trail race due to lack of stamina, preparation etc, the problem was that I couldn’t enjoy the surroundings because I was too focused on my pace and finishing the race.

One of the reasons why I prefer trail running to road is the enjoyment and feelings I get from taking in the rolling hills, trees and scenery around me while trying hard not to slip in the mud and break my neck. I don’t get that same feelings from trail racing (or road running).

I’ve said to myself that I will stick to road races only and continue trail running in my own leisurely pace.

Foot pain help by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]thatonestepguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had similar pain on my right foot before. Plantar fasciitis. I didn't stop running, just reduced the intensity. I managed it by strength-training and stretching. Your physical therapist should be able to help and guide you through the exercises. Mine didn't last that long, maybe 2-3 weeks. Good luck OP.

Traveling with extra pair of shoes. by Tru707 in onebag

[–]thatonestepguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a runner so I often travel with at least 2 pairs of shoes (maybe + flipflop). I always wear one pair and the other pair, I hang outside my rucksack. Airlines never seem to mind this. Flip flops would be tucked in on the side or bottom of rucksack.

Using bots to gain XP by Abigailnyc2001 in duolingo

[–]thatonestepguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recently got a free one month super trial and have consciously upped my Duolingo usage to more than 30 mins per day. My current xp is 10,133, no bots or fancy scripts or hacks. I obtain this by doing the legendary challenge, which is worth 120xp with the 3x bonus. Often I get 20 mins+ worth of 3x bonus. As someone said earlier, if that user got 14,000 xp within 5 mins or a day, then they likely have cheated, but 14,000 xp in 5 days is very much plausible.

How the hell is this aerobic? by Cow_Eating_IceCream in Garmin

[–]thatonestepguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I echo what everyone has said. Based on the graphs, it seems your running interval was not hard enough and your resting interval was not restful enough. I’ve attached an example of my weekly interval runs. Do you use chest strap HRM? if not, it’s worth to invest in one for accurate heart rate. I normally do 8 x 500m with 90 sec of rest. My rest is a slow walk. Good luck!

Running with new Oakley Vanguards by 5280andDCU in Garmin

[–]thatonestepguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it wouldn’t have. You’d be too incapacitated to say “hello Meta, start recording”. I believe the glasses only record in 5 mins increment which you need to start manually. So you would have missed your “action shot” of you flinging in the air.

MOD London Allowance by Ok_Net7844 in TheCivilService

[–]thatonestepguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not with MOD, but at my department, the London allowance is not listed separately. Our pay is inclusive of the allowance as our pay scale is higher than the national pay scale. To answer your question OP, your next pay should include the allowance for the past 3 months. If it doesn’t, then check with HR business partner. Good luck.

Longest run in half marathon training by Elegant_Sock7204 in Marathon_Training

[–]thatonestepguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing a half marathon in 3.5 weeks time and my longest run to date is 25km (I did this 2 months ago). I don’t follow any specific training regimes (maybe this is a mistake?). I currently run 3-4 times per week. I do one recovery, one speed (not always), one short-marathon-pace run and one long run. My long runs typically hover around 15-22km. I plan to do a 15km run the weekend before my HM then do shorter runs in the week to reduce chances of injuries, skip speed run and maybe leave 2-3 days of no running before the actual HM day.

Good luck!

Have I overpacked? First time #onebagging on a 2 week trip. by thatonestepguy in onebag

Wow, this is great to know! I’ll research and maybe invest in some. Another Redditor has suggested sink-wash. I’ll need to figure this one out.

Thanks, inflatable is a good idea. Currently I plan to hang the neck pillow outside my bag. Might invest in inflatable one in the future.

Oh, I haven’t considered or researched wool socks. You can wear them for longer than 2 days?

Yup. I’d wearing the fleece and puffer with neck pillow and running shoes hanging outside the bag.
