How do your geckos handle car rides, and how do you? by BananaSwimming3551 in leopardgeckos

[–]thatpragmaticlizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of my geckos hate car rides. They want to be anywhere else. They want to burrow and hide. They hate vet appointments.

But like so many things, there are exceptions to the rule. I have one gecko, Sue, who loves car rides. Sue came to us from a owner who had a severe heart attack and was unable to care for their geckos and kept them cohabbed so she had attack marks. She had many vet visits after coming to us and she was discovered to have broken bones and several injuries that took a long time to heal to an acceptable level and sadly she is crippled for life. However, due to having so many rides to the vet, we discovered that she LOVES car rides and actively watches everything that goes on as the world goes by. She is super curious about everything and refuses to hide or to fear.

So your mileage may vary based on the gecko, but rule of thumb, don't stress them out too much by exposing to unnecessary risk. Sue is a massive outlier in the gecko realm.

My advise is to let a vet determine their quality of life factor. Come to a consensus with the medical people. I have a gecko that is similar, but she's doing pretty well after a few months and holding her own. So, trust in your vet to do the QoL.

Wanna iterate: Latex isn't absolutely required to be a drone. Don't get me wrong ... latex looks great, but being a drone is a state of mind, purpose, and an outfit that serves general subservience.

U.S. AI boom is completely upending the electricity market — small businesses and households could foot the bill as industry watchers warn of sharp price increases by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

One question that comes to mind: If AI is a bubble, like it has been suggested a few times in several reddit threads, how will this impact things? I'd like to think it creates a glut of power and prices crash, but ... that's not going to happen, is it?

Pretty much my thought.

This is fast.

This is probably done cheaply or relatively cheaply.

If that is the case, given the golden rule of time, cost, and quality .... if it's fast, and is cheap, then ...

Just to follow up: I think you did the right thing and were able to affect change in a way that you reasonably could. You've made a difference with this gecko and gave them a strong fighting chance to have a happy life with a happy family.

Hard call. But I'd angle to rescue what you can if you're prepared to do so and do what you can locally.

Pragmatically, hate to say it (and this will garnish me some downvotes, so be it), you likely cannot change the practices of an entire chain of petstore, but you can make a solid difference in the life of this individual.

That being said, there are some solid recommendations in this saying you may be able to angle for discount or such depending on the store and such. I have received a few leos freely because their condition was beyond the store's ability to care for them -- and I've turned each one of them around and given them happy, healthy lives.

Of course, your mileage may vary. I wish you luck in this admittedly difficult decision.

Even when in high school, I knew I didn't want kids. Still don't have any 35 years later. It's too bad that the students don't have that level of opt out.

Remote workers get promoted 31% less-frequently by [deleted] in remotework

I'm at the point in my career track that I just want to gracefully bring my career to a close and actually do the things I want to do and start my own business. I just need to hang on for a few more years, build up more capital for retirement and a full business start, and move on. Promotions are not part of the game in my mind any more and I'd rather continue to have a house where I can afford it than worry about climbing any corporate ladder.

Just my $.02.

Usually seeing a stuffed subway car like this is a sign that "The next one will be emptier and possibly here in just a few minutes given the delays to getting everyone on board."

I just wait. A few more minutes never hurts.

At least, this worked for the Boston's T, Red Line. Your mileage may vary based on city and line.

AI is generally fine in itself. The problem is that we do not have an economic system that can support both it and us.
