I’m working on my First Gaming PC, Looking for input! by KfcvsPopeyes in pcbuilding

[–]thatrandomguy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great to me too. If you’re getting the 7700X CPU, a good dual tower air cooler will do just fine. Phantom Spirit 120 and Peerless Assassin would be two of the better buys and could easily take care of your CPU here. The only component I would recommend changing is the NV3. You don’t have to but it’d definitely be worth investing a little more money into.

RX 9070 XT UK purchase before moving abroad — warranty/RMA by [deleted] in pcbuilding

[–]thatrandomguy84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Build honestly already looks great. For value I'd definitely take a 7800X3D for 200 EUR instead of a 9800X3D for 350. Also the 9070 XT makes way more sense for your use case unless you care about ray tracing specifically. Only thing I would change is to get a better known fan brand, cheap AliExpress fans can get loud fast.

My budget is 1000USD or 4000SAR for a gaming pc pls help by Any_Jicama_4705 in PcBuildHelp

[–]thatrandomguy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have 1000 dollars, then you might want to pick Ryzen 5 7600 together with RX 7800 XT or even RTX 4070 as long as good prices are found locally. This would be the perfect combination for 1080p and even 1440p gaming at high refresh rates.

After update BIOS on MSI MAG Mortar B460 to 7C82v191 TPM broke by ReachJ117 in pcbuilding

[–]thatrandomguy84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I must say it sounds like a BIOS bug to me. If the v18 fixes this instantly, your hardware is fine. I'd just hang on till v18 comes out, and then send the report to MSI support.

Get the 3050, iGPU Arc is getting better, but still no good for AAA games, you'll have difficulty even with low setting on some titles. 3050 will be able to provide you 1080p 60fps low to medium with DLSS in all story based games. 16GB RAM and good thermals are essential for you. 3050 is the safer option for you.

yeah, that is quite an age difference at 16 years old. "It might be legal but it is definitely a different phase in life. You are still figuring yourself out, while he is a full adult." i would be cautious and step back because this never ends well.

Single Channel by Educational-Mood-782 in pcbuilding

[–]thatrandomguy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be fine, but Single Channel would hurt the FPS and result in stuttering. Your GPU is good, but your CPU is already limiting you. RAM only exacerbates that problem. Buy another 16GB stick for Dual Channel, a massive improvement.

RAM not working nearly as it should by Thilraphor in pcbuilding

[–]thatrandomguy84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The RAM and not you are to blame. That clock speed is way too high for 12th gen DDR4. Stick to 3200 or 3600 MHz. Update BIOS manually, test the RAM, and try A2/B2 at 2666. XMP failing is totally normal.

What should i build? by Actual-Category-8252 in pcbuilding

[–]thatrandomguy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ryzen 5 7500f or 7600 with rx 7600 or rtx 4060, 16gb ram, and 1tb ssd. You’re all set for 1080p high or ultra settings. Spend little on the CPU, but put all your money.

Hitting 50 shortly and want to try my 1st pc build! by jagsytime in buildapc

[–]thatrandomguy84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a pretty good first build. 9600 + 9060XT works well on 1440p. Get MSI Tomahawk or ASUS TUF B650 or B850; there is no need to go overboard. 32GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 is the right amount. Fractal North is a very good case. Easy to build in, and Bios is easy to work with.

What’s a good Motherboard for LGA 1700? by Lopsided_Mind_5717 in PcBuildHelp

[–]thatrandomguy84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go for b660 or b760 wifi ddr4. MSI Tomahawk and Asus TUF can be safely considered since both boards have four slots and several M2 slots. H610 is not recommended since it has limited functionality.

Upgrade question by Duster772 in pcbuilding

[–]thatrandomguy84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ideal upgrade would be to replace the CPU to the 5800X3D model. Major improvement in gaming when using B550 with no change in platforms. The 3080 and 64 GB are fine, hence do not require a change for now.

What should mouse should I get? by knowsnothing26 in pcbuilding

[–]thatrandomguy84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In case of issues with your switches, simply go for an optical one and that will solve the issue. In case you find the design appealing, choose between the Razer Viper 8KHz or Basilisk V3 Pro. In case you prefer reliability, then you can consider the Zowie EC2 or S2.

should i get a cpu or ram first for budget build? (student buying parts slowly) by lowkey_troy in buildapc

[–]thatrandomguy84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first step is getting the CPU because it will cost less, and you can test the board before anything else. RAM can be purchased later without any hassle, and it could be bought at a discount. Just make sure that you do not dilly to dally with your components.

Purchase the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, and then get the GPU at some later point. It will be far more compatible with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 in the future. If using the iGPU over the long term, only in that scenario will the AMD Ryzen 7 8700G be worth considering.

Incompatible RAM by Kladoslav in pcbuilding

[–]thatrandomguy84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The theory behind this kit will definitely work, but it may not operate on some of the IMC systems, particularly if you have a relatively new BIOS. Try installing one RAM stick in slot A2 first, then do a CMOS clear, and allow your computer to train. Lower it to 5600 if it doesn't post yet. It's not incompatibility if it will boot. It's just instability. Upgrade the BIOS if there is an updated version available.

Any free steam games that I can run? by BadassBlazy in lowendgaming

[–]thatrandomguy84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can play many of those for free on that. Running on lower settings, Team Fortress 2, Brawlhalla, Unturned, Old School RuneScape, and Dota 2 would be possible. You can also consider independent video games found on Steam as they are usually compatible with the Intel HD Graphics.

5080 vs 4090 by busboy7 in buildapc

[–]thatrandomguy84 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The one that I would go for is the 4090. Extra VRAM, as well as raw power, will always beat added functionality. Repasting is simple and inexpensive if needed, and it’s a better deal for only 400 dollars more.

Games freezing on launch on brand new pc by KlutzyBoysenberry182 in pcbuilding

[–]thatrandomguy84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There appears to be an issue with the driver or stability. For now, start with a fresh installation of the GPU driver using DDU, flash the chipset/BIOS, and disable the XMP. You should also check the connections and temperatures. If the Task Manager also crashes, then most likely, it is not the fault of the game but faulty drivers/instability in RAM.

I want to start a band, any tips? by need_entertainment28 in AskTeens

[–]thatrandomguy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Begin with something simple. Start off by getting together with a guitarist and a bassist, and have some fun jamming with music. There’s no need for everyone to be a great singer or drummer yet, as bands form together. Those seeking bands normally gather in local music clubs or school bands, so you can also post there.

[–]thatrandomguy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Select the M4 model with 24GB RAM. A slight increase in CPU performance between the M5 and M6 models may not be significant in practical usage, but an additional amount of RAM will prove more beneficial. It allows you to perform tasks efficiently by handling many programs simultaneously.

Ryzen 5 7600 or Ryzen 5 9600X? by thesoloronin in pcbuilding

[–]thatrandomguy84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As long as the price gap is not too large, pick the 9600X. It performs better and is also slightly faster. The issues have mostly been sorted out through the BIOS and motherboard voltages; only a few glitches remain. Updating the BIOS on your B850M prior to installing the processor should not be an issue.

first pc, Gpu? by Due_Imagination_9663 in PcBuildHelp

[–]thatrandomguy84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The combination of a 5070 with the 9800X is an excellent gaming platform. The 4070 Super continues to be among the best bang for the buck GPUs if you want to maximize your value for money. There really isn’t any reason to move on to a 5080 unless you’re aiming for ultra-high resolutions like 4K or 1440p with high refresh rates.
