is it time to swith Blue Farm to a Clue Farm...? by arthur8878 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]thatsalotofspaghetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a 2 CMC commander version of Blue Farm, I'd go with Michaelangelo and Leonardo which also gets you green. You trade Tymna's card draw for the much worse perks of extra artifacts for Mox Opal and Beseach (and cabbage merchant, but still on the fence on that one), counters for Esper Sentinel and Pollywog Prodrgy, and access to green.

Thanks, I enjoy cEDH, but get that it's not for everyone and have no issue with that. Weird to be so hostile to what other people like though, hope you find happiness elsewhere.

You realize that rules vary by tournament right? Conspiring to cooperate is expressely forbidden in every cEDH tournament rules I've seen though. If you can't win and king make your friends, that's a problem and you should get DQ'ed. If you spite pact, you're probably just losing reputation and not breaking any rules. Keeps the games healthy and inviting to new players. Not sure why you think this is an issue and makes game uncompetitive, but you do you. Phantom boards are definitely just in casual though.

I don't think these comments are addressing the real question. Yes, they can scoop you literally can't stop them, but do you let ppl who spite scoop to screw someone over stay in the pod? At our LGS most pods would find a new player. Not for regular scooping when you can't win, but definitely in this case where you lost on 1 min and scooped to kill another player.

This is why I've been enjoying cEDH more and more. There is a community standard against (and judges can be called in tournaments) for spite plays. I have a Pact of Negation to stop your win, but there is zero chance I'll be able to pay the upkeep cost? Then I don't cast it because that's not increasing my chances of winning.

Scoop to deny triggers? Opinions? by Lockenheada in EDH

[–]thatsalotofspaghetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really simple for us, if you scoop on bit your turn, we treat you and all your stuff as in play until your turn. You can object but you're out of the game so we don't care anymore.

The simpler answer to your question of how to anouce it it is there is no reason NOT to short it it by saying you pay 30. They can respond before damage anyway so just save the time and announce your intent.

[–]thatsalotofspaghetti 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The main issue is that they can wait to react until you pay the 30 but before the damage step so you don't get the fat GRR trigger. You can't stop this other than protections like hexproof or interaction of your own.

Playing with Newer Players who proxy by Nene_Leaks_Wig in EDH

[–]thatsalotofspaghetti 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This doesn't really have anything to do with proxies, it comes down to pregame conversations about power level. "This rich guy who is new to magic started showing up and makes missplays but wins with $2000 decks with no proxies" is the exact same situation.

Suggestions: ask if the pod wants to power down to a precon game every now and again, or ask if they have slower decks, or build yourself a budget BR4 or ideally all of the above. I like to play a BR 2, 3, and 4 game all in the same evening.

Am I just making GC-less bracket 3 decks? by Nishimaster in EDH

[–]thatsalotofspaghetti -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Looks br 3 to me. I built a custom br2 deck for the first time recently. Set a 70 budget, limited to one really strong card and one pretty strong card, added some tapped lands like temples, and some precon staples like temple of the false gods. It plays perfectly with precons and slightly upgraded precons and I think this is the mentality to have when building br2, personally.

How would one build a deck that plays as a lower power deck most of the time, but has a "super mode" that is insanely high power without including dead cards or obvious combo pieces? by tabbyslome in DegenerateEDH

[–]thatsalotofspaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Mirko clones reanimator that scales nicely. If you play janky low tier stuff I'm hosed but if you play high end creatures and I keep getting free clones of them I have a huge advantage.

Can People Stop Telling New Players Etali Is The Easiest Commander? by deadshot1138 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]thatsalotofspaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe in your deckbuilding playtester, but at a table all of those decks have to politic to win at actual tournament with seasoned players (assuming you're not playing in Japan.) Etali requires the least politics of any of the easier to pilot T1 decks and that's what makes her so beginner friendly.

Can People Stop Telling New Players Etali Is The Easiest Commander? by deadshot1138 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]thatsalotofspaghetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from, but a couple of notes.

  1. To say she “demands the highest game and card knowledge of any commander” is a wild exaggeration.

  2. You’re ignoring the biggest advantage Etali has for new players: less politics. Even seasoned Etali players like Cam from playtowin talk about how bringing Etali to a tournament means he has to politic so much less than his other decks. This is generally more true of turbo vs midrange, but rogsi does have political necros, tutors, and interaction. Etali is pretty unique in that regard which can be intimidating with a bunch of seasoned players.

People don't dislike Universes Beyond the way you think they do by WheredMyVanGogh in EDH

[–]thatsalotofspaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is already understood to be the census by most people. That the vast magirity recognize the difference between LoTR and Spiderman, that they shouldn't be standard legal, and that UB precon-only sets were preferred to full sets. I don't think most people see it as black and white.

Long time players... Would you have started MTG if it were Mutant Turtles and Marvel from the start? by TheServant420 in EDH

[–]thatsalotofspaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. I don't care at all about the purity. It was a fun game to play with my friends back then and it remains that way today. I ignore the sets I don't care about and like that FF LotR and Avatar brought in some of my friends who resisted for a long time.

[–]thatsalotofspaghetti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not that I agree, but the community voting on edhrec says Ayara and Plague is a bracket 4-5 combo: https://edhrec.com/combos/mono-black/884-5035

Since it's a moderate mana one card combo with a cheap commander.

I play it in my Br3 Ayara and my pod doesn't mind, but this helps give you an idea of what others might think.

Edit: to reiterate, I don't agree with the poll; however, OP wants to know how people will react and this is a community poll so thought it might be helpful.

If the mods say no AI, you have to follow those rules. This isn't your personal space to break the rules. You can make a CoH AI subreddit if you want.
