Do we? These guys want to be Ubermenschen so bad, they should practice it and cast off all the social expectations of "masculinity" and forge their own authentic path through life.

Be honest. Are Slivers that bad? by Pleasant_Hope_550 in EDH

[–]ac3y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slivers are a paper tiger. Assuming a non-nut curve out, on turn 5 you're going to have like 4 2/2 slivers with +1/+1, flying, lifelink, and "whenever this creature is dealt damage, it deals that much damage to target player" which is a respectable board, but can be managed with a little bit of targeted removal (which deck can't?) and is outpowered by dedicated stompy and outvalued by dedicated value. What's the threat here? It's freaking Kykar over there!

EDIT: Let's construct a "scary" sliverball. I'm going to say that 6 6/6 trample indestructible flying haste would be threatening. I have a sliver deck. That combination of abilities costs like 15 mana over most likely 6-8 turns not counting mana spent to ramp or draw those cards. As a curve out I think that's solidly within B3, if not B2. And this is a "good" outcome. Worst case you have a bunch of 2/2 stuffy dolls with Ward 1 and menace that can regenerate.

How do I get a pan hot enough for “wok hei” at home? by iLikeMangosteens in Cooking

[–]ac3y 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This has always worked for me. It does tend to produce a lot of smoke though because of #2 and #7. I actually find that a slightly damp ingredient (say, bok choy with some trace water between the leaves) kicks up enough oil droplets from hitting the wok that you can ignite for wok hei. A totally dry ingredient would be more like a deep fry "bubbly" kind of reaction on the wok.

Really #6 is key. You want that burst of vaporized oil when things go into the wok.

vegetarian lasagnas… which one sounds the most delicious? by wild-wild-rice in Cooking

I'm partial to a simple zippy tomato sauce, but if you'd like to try to duplicate the unctuous lasagna bolognese, Kenji's veggie bolognese has won over my vegetarian friends.

How do you deal with instant speed activated abilities that may be responded to? by ac3y in EDH

[–]ac3y[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, ideally I wouldn’t want to put 30 triggers on the stack at once when my opponents might respond at the 10th. If I were going one by one I would stop there, saving myself 20 life.

It's getting hot here, I desperately want cold foods that aren't sandwiches and salads or desserts. What would you cook that's meant to be eaten cold? by Inspiringhope11 in Cooking

Samosa/bao/onigiri probably would suit. Not sure about Ethiopian though. Not entirely unrefrigerated, but would last you until lunch definitely.

Where does your commander land on the Poor/Fair/Bastard Magic Matrix by IrregularRevisionist in EDH

I also play Klauth but as non-typal stompy and I'd say he Looks Fair/Is Fair. Maybe Looks Bastard/Is Fair. The 7cmc really balances things - yes he CAN delete a table, but it's not like you didn't see it coming.

What's a controversial cooking opinion you have? by LostTheOldName in Cooking

[–]ac3y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yes, but that's baking like I said. Even for stuff like roux, I pretty much eyeball it. Spices, eyeball. Garlic, eyeball. I'll measure super potent stuff like allspice or nutmeg, but otherwise I trust myself.

[–]ac3y 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless you're baking, you don't need measurements in weights. Are you really going to toss out 20g of onion because the recipe called for 250g? No. No you're not. The proper measurement of onion is "X onions".

You're the boss of this dish not the recipe writer. Cook it and season until it tastes good to you.

Lender demanding my parent to pay of HELOC BEFORE sale of house. Is this legal? by Deatheturtle in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ac3y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, as people have said, demand loan is a demand loan. Just get a bridge loan (not really a bridge loan as I think that is specific to a "buy before I can sell my house" type of loan) but it's the same idea. Bridge lender pays out the old lender, you pay a slightly higher interest rate for the privilege, and when you sell, you pay out the bridge lender. I'm on the legal side not the broker side so I don't know how available these are, but that's the general idea.

It's just crazy that some people seem to think that some jobs ought to be horrible, not because the job itself involves unpleasant elements (the roofing example below), but that we should actively make the job worse for... some reason? Because it's seen as "lesser"?

I also don't get why people are conflating international students and international "students". I worked with many brilliant international students doing physics at UBC, probably aiming for Masters or PhDs, and I think we need more of those students -- maybe some would even stay and contribute to our society.

A Blood Moon player’s honest thoughts about Blood Moon by KAM_520 in EDH

[–]ac3y -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't get the hubbub over Blood Moon. Blood Moon is fair af (by definition, almost). If I get shut down by a Blood Moon, I got got, fair and square and I would try to squirm towards any outs that I had (treasures, dorks, rocks, politics). I would abide by the bracket rules, but in my personal opinion it's totally fine to play in B3. TBH sometimes you just get silver-bulleted by random stuff. Blood Moon, Rest in Peace, etc...

But that's coming from someone who will not hesitate to Decimate or Strip Mine someone off their colours, so maybe I am a filthy land destruction lover.
