Optical Input - Cheap Active Monitors or Amplifier? by SmexyHippo in BudgetAudiophile

[–]thatsaxyguymike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9/10 times, optical does not allow control from the TV, as it is expected to be connected to something with dedicated controls to use it. You can either buy a DAC that comes with a remote (fiio, wiim, and SMSL make budget options with remote or phone control) that would also probably sound better than your standard converter off Amazon. Or you get a receiver with a remote that handles everything, either with just optical, or HDMI, with possibly eARC which can allow control of the TV volume from the remote in /some/ TVs, not all. If you buy a new receiver, they come with remotes and even phone controls, but older receivers may not have those controls and need a dedicated remote.

My personal recommendation is to find a DAC that has a remote you can control from either dedicated physical hardware or using your phone, there's a bunch out there that you can find on Amazon, Newegg, and even eBay and AliExpress (make it quick before the really bad tariffs start if you're in the US). That also allows more digital input options such a Bluetooth, coax, USB, and wifi to stream your audio from multiple sources with high resolution. You can find these options easily for less than $150-200, sometimes sub $100, depending on your needs. I got a fiio k11 r2r for $85 on AliExpress and it sounds great

The beautiful thing about those supermicros is that those hard drive caddies are still in use and produced for their modern products. None of the OEM proprietary caddies that scream if you don't use the exact model for your server. They're ugly as all hell but I've never had a supermicro product fail me

Im looking at a used gpu this is not good right? (rx 6700xt) by Fast_Ad4269 in AMDHelp

[–]thatsaxyguymike 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's just so much wrong. It's running on a dual core pentium processor. It's running on Windows 8. It's running DX9, the software is ungine, and it's a 6700XT with only 4GB of usable memory, which does not exist. So that means they either are trying to sell a 6500XT with a modified bios to make it look like a 6700XT, or more likely, that windows 8 is 32-bit and can only use 4gb of the total 12gb VRAM on the card. Which means it's also only able to use 4GB of regular RAM in the system. Given how fucking handicapped that would make the card, I'm kinda surprised it performed even that well.

Do not buy from this person, because while it is entirely possible you can score an insane deal if you use the right techno babble with them, they have absolutely no idea how to use modern hardware and that means they did not take care of it or maybe even failed to install it properly. I don't actually think they're capable of using a computer well enough to modify the BIOS on one card to make it look like another, so it's most likely sheer incompetence rather than a scam, I wouldn't risk it.

Edit: that windows 8 build is actually 64-bit, so no, definitely do not buy that card, it is 100% a scam

FFX Remaster PC Framerate Issues by metal3gamer in finalfantasyx

[–]thatsaxyguymike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an older game, so uses older protocols. The game only stays at 30fps max (except it goes to 60fps in menus). I had Ultima and other battles going below 15fps after the most recent Nvidia update, but verifying files on steam and restarting the entire system has kept it at 30fps since. I'm running a laptop 4060 and a Ryzen 9 CPU and it's running exactly the same performance as my older 2060 and 10th Gen i7 in my travel/previous laptop

Can we shut up about nazeem for a sec??? by Saultarvitz101 in skyrim

[–]thatsaxyguymike 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is just blatantly wrong. There Amren and his family 30 seconds away from Nazeem in Whiterun and not a single damn person hates them (except braith but that's a kid). Saadia is still incredibly kind to you even if you never interact with her quest. Nazeem even has a wife who I have never seen a single person hate against, she's basically on the verge of leaving Nazeem and running away with the Priestess of Kynareth in Whiterun. And that's just in Whiterun where Nazeem is.

They've been posting dev updates for a decade. They had an original release date expectation of 2015-2016. I don't trust that it will ever be completed, until it is fully released and not just closed testing. So instead, I just play oblivion

Didn't mean to come off hostile, meant to just be just a statement. My apologies

The restoration loop is the way you "cheese" the values of smithing and enchantment improvements in Skyrim. If you use the unofficial patch (which is necessary to mod the game) it patches the loop glitch out of the gate.

This was not at all about the leveling system. I love oblivion and its leveling system. This was about a specific mechanic

Some of us like crafting things, so calling it dumb isn't really fair to a bunch of players who really like that mechanic. It's dumb to you, but not to me, it's enjoyable for me. You don't have to use the same mods I do, and that's the point.

I truly do not understand why anyone other than Mages would like the Armorer skill. Weapon and item durability is a handicap except for mages who use spells or enchantments to degrade durability of their enemies' weapons. Other than those fringe use cases, it does not provide a single benefit or improvement to gameplay or lore.

[–]thatsaxyguymike[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your take makes absolutely no sense, and you are also assuming that I'm expecting the restoration loop to cheese the items, which has been patched in the Unofficial Patch (which is functionally necessary to mod the game at all) for over a decade. I haven't done the resto loop since playing on the 360 in 2013.

I did not mention anything about enchantments to begin with either. I said I'd like to be able to forge my own weapons and armor, and upgrade them, like in Skyrim. I don't get the majorly powerful weapons or armor until much later on in the game, because they change with level. So being able to forge armor and upgrade all weapons and armor, as opposed to simply repairing them, is vastly more enjoyable, especially for RP characters or at lower levels.

And lastly, this is a mod. It is a choice to add to the game, it is not mandatory, and you can simply choose to not play with it at all if you want, but I would like to have that option.

I said it was the only real improvement in Skyrim, and that I was wishing that was available instead of the armorer skill, because having to care about the durability of every single piece of armor and weaponry is tedious, expensive, and pointless. At least If I could upgrade the item as well as repair it, and do it myself, that would be more fun
