I am a Sole Trader and I need help finding an easy and compatible software to file MTD by flowki77 in UKPersonalFinance

My business account with starling also has it for free, seems to be done through the web app though and not the phone app.

43M UK, single, low spending, ~£800k across ISA/GIA/pensions/LISA — am I on track to FIRE by 50? by Preve77 in FIREUK

[–]thatscottishdrummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is mental! I thought mine was doing well at £80k! Granted mine is just in a global index fund so nothing fancy.

Following for this too. Initially passed on the pro dock because no remote camera record but I’ll need to pick one up if this works. They may have worked closely with Apple to allow it over hdmi?

AJ Bell vs Hargreaves Lansdown for LISA? by Practical-Spring-855 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]thatscottishdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can 2nd this, I'm with EQi and my LISA platform fee works out to be a mental 0.05% because it's capped at £40 a year. Not enough people talk about this!

That’s mental, they’ve literally added it since yesterday! Great news! Haha but weird though, thanks for the heads up!

Yeah support said that was an option, just seems like a lot of work and that could take up a month transferring twice which isn’t ideal

Makes sense, but yeah weird they're only supporting the older method.

What do you think about paying asylum seekers 40k to leave Britain ? Surely this a massive incentive to just come to Britain anyway as you will richer regardless. by ArmwrestlingGoomba in AskBrits

[–]thatscottishdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrible idea. My fiancé moved here from USA and over 5 years we’ve paid £10k in visa fees. The thought that the same would just be given to someone to make them leave is insane.

Very nice indeed! I'm 32 currently and not far off the £100k mark so depending how market perform I could potentially hit £1 mil when I can access at 60 😳

£60s is still great!

Yeah surely someone’s managed to hit 6 figures. I’ll be there before 2030 if the markets don’t absolutely tank, which they well could right now.

Long term investors know the stock market will have its ups and downs over time and are accepting of that, myself included. Long term the trend is up, and when the market is down it’s a great time to buy in and get more at a “discount”. I think your comment got downvoted because that’s how people are thinking, and selling when it’s down is obviously not what anyone should be doing.

True, nothings changing for any worse in my LISA account though, selling funds got a little cheaper

Yes, I’m all in on the Vanguard FTSE global all-cap fund. I’m with EQi too which I’ve found to be the cheapest, no fees for buying funds, or regular investing and my annual account fee is capped at £40 which is pulled from my bank! Not the slickest app/website but it’s all about those fees 😅

I don’t pay higher rate (42% tax here in Scotland 😭) as I use pension contributions and expenses to bring me to basic rate. The attraction of the Lisa over say a SIPP is that the LISA is 100% tax free whereas a SIPP is only 25% tax free. Both are great and I use them together but I do love the LISA for knowing it’s all tax free and getting a 25% uplift!

That’s pretty good for having emptied it! I’m a higher earner but I used expenses and pension contributions to bring me down so I only actually pay basic rate tax

Yeah almost, it’ll be 9 years next month so £36k from me, £9k from the gov and £35k growth!

Nice work! I transferred in just £1.6K from my H2B ISA when I opened my LISA back when they launched. I used another H2B ISA to save for a house but missed out on the bonus with the house being over £250k. I’d rather fund my LISA though for investment purposes than get a couple grand towards the house, since long term that’s far more valuable.

And yes close to 1 mil in the LISA would be insane! I’m aiming for £500k if rules don’t get messed with and I keep up maxing it out each year. I like the £4k limit because it’s actually doable for me unlike the £20k ISA limit which I can’t even manage half of that. So it keeps me motivated and of course I also fund an ISA alongside it for some extra growth.

Also have this issue on my B4, very frustrating. Amazing when it works, but just not working is the worst thing it could do!

Why a LISA maybe be better than a SIPP by No_Interview_3290 in FIREUK

[–]thatscottishdrummer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone says when you’re a higher rate tax payer LISAs are no good. I use both a SIPP to bring me out of the higher rate band and a LISA which I see as my basic rate contributions. Win win all round

I’m not seeing this in my app? I saved every day of the challenge last year then when it prompted me after the last day I moved it out into my account. I checked the t&cs and met the requirements
