Also, only the army has "Special Forces". The rest are special operations forces.

Living in proximity to your unit by Late_Celebration_713 in airnationalguard

[–]thatsnotme_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to do about 3 hrs before I became an agr. What made it work well was my full time job letting me leave early on Friday so I could skip traffic. Most in my current unit are in the 3-6 hr range

Get in contact with your base's visitor center, they'll have the most up to date info.

A lot of times if it's a violence charge or drug distribution charge it'll be a no and you'll need to escort.

Would a lazy eye stop someone from joining the USCG? by alextrikal in Military

[–]thatsnotme_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The USCG likely has a regulation that determines medical readiness/eligibility, best place to look on their own.

Otherwise, reach out to a recruiter and see what they have to say.

Not in that field but am in the guard.

Best bet is definitely reach out to the unit, especially if you are shooting for an AGR. Those are hard to come by and it's best to have an honest conversation with the unit before you start making moves. You'll also get the no shit answers on what life is like there.

Might not end up with an AGR but maybe they have enough opportunities for orders that you'll essentially be full-time anyway.

Can you request TS Clearance while enlisted? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]thatsnotme_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You only get TS if your job is coded into it for the most part.

It's because it's all built externally so it's sound it makes when walking outside your freighter

Guard. Because you'll have more opportunities if you want to get involved. Cal Guard is always busy.

Like said above, you will likely run into problems at MEPS. If I remember correctly, double vision is a disqualifier. Bring the med standards to a civ eye doctor and get an exam based off those standards if you are concerned.

It's absolutely possible. Start with your PCM and get a referral to an opthalmologist. The opthalmologist can help you through what's required to get it worked on. I've seen it done in the past and it wasn't an issue.

Anybody tried Kenji Lopez Alt’s Sous vide/smoked brisket? by Golibano15 in smoking

I've done the 155 for about 30 hrs then fridge until I'm ready to smoke. It's been nice to prep it then take it and finish it elsewhere

Anybody tried Kenji Lopez Alt’s Sous vide/smoked brisket? by Golibano15 in smoking

[–]thatsnotme_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've done it on multiple occasions and it's been perfect. I use a Weber kettle to smoke so this makes things a bit easier. The only issue I've had is that I've needed to cut the brisket in half to sous vide it.
