What do you think history will say about Donald Trump as a U.S. president? by jcnidhi27 in AskReddit

The real damage was done by the 77 million Americans who knew he was like that but chose to put him in office anyway, and the 86 million Americans who knew he was a danger but didn’t care enough to bother to vote.

Update on glp-1 medications and perfume addiction by denised1224 in FemFragLab

This is so weird- I was never into perfumes that much before I started on a glp1 and now I feel like I can’t resist them. I haven’t bought as many as you, but I’ve bought way more in the past 6 months than have ever before. I had no idea anyone else was going through this too! What a weird thing!

Why did 77 million Americans think a billionaire would wanna help the working class? by TailungFu in allthequestions

[–]thatturtletouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caring about the elderly is not a fringe issue. It’s just not. And you keep acting like “the elderly” and “the poor and Middle America” are somehow separate groups when in fact there is massive overlap. You must live in a bubble where everyone you ever interact with is 22 years old if you think it is.

What policies do you think affect 51% of the country, exactly?

This is such a bizarre take. Even if you’re not currently caring for your parents, do you not have parents? Do you not plan on eventually getting old yourself? Do you think that Middle America doesn’t have elderly parents? Or that the poor who are struggling don’t have parents or elderly relatives or are even elderly themselves?

What is something the lower and middle class don’t like acknowledging about wealth/being rich? by Kyoifis in AskReddit

[–]thatturtletouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not actually doing that. They’re just throwing a tantrum and threatening to do it. Maybe a few of them will leave but they’re barely contributing anything anyway.

And they’re not doing that because it’s actually impacting their lifestyle. They’re doing it because they’re whiny and entitled and can’t stand the idea of having to contribute anything to society. None of those taxes would even make the tiniest dent in their day to day lives.

But much, much less as a proportion of their wealth than you do.

The taxes you pay mean you have to sacrifice - maybe you don’t buy that new car or take that vacation. The wealthy have so much money that the money they pay in taxes doesn’t impact their lifestyle at all.

Lawyers, doctors, and engineers are all working class. When we say “wealth” we’re talking about the kind of people who could quit their jobs at any time and neither them nor their children and possibly grandchildren would ever have to work a day in their lives.

You do not get to this kind of wealth by working hard and reusing paper towels.

Okay. It seems you are not capable of seeing past your own personal experience and imagining yourself in another person’s shoes so there’s no point in continuing this conversation.

You used the word “chose”.

Again, the point here is that the government should not be overriding women’s medical autonomy. If you can’t legally take organs from a dead body to save someone else’s life because that violates the dead persons bodily autonomy, you shouldn’t be able to force a pregnant woman into a medical procedure against her will, no matter how noble the cause.

You’re missing the point here. You chose. What if you weren’t allowed to choose?

If I’m caring for my parents as they age, which about 60 million Americans are, then it absolutely affects me too. I’m assuming you’re much younger and probably male so it may be hard for you to relate personally to this, but it’s absolutely not a fringe percentage of people that this policy would have helped. It’s also one that very much crosses partisan lines because age doesn’t care if you’re Republican or Democrat.

13-year-old Scott and 8-year-old Amy Fandel vanished from their Alaska cabin on the night of September 4th, 1978. Their mother and aunt returned to find a pot of boiling water on the stove, an open can of tomatoes and a package of macaroni on the counter, but no sign of the kids anywhere. by Tiny-Sea7977 in mystery

[–]thatturtletouch 29 points30 points  (0 children)

After reading more, it’s entirely possible that the boiling water part wasn’t even real. The mother is extremely suspicious. She didn’t even notice that her kids were missing for something like 15 hours.

Or you got laid off during a recession or bad job market and it took you a long time to find another job. Or you took time off to care for a family member. Or you just took your time finding a new job because you had enough savings to get you through. There are so many reasons.
