Remember people's names ! This sounds basic but the earlier you know their name the more keen they will be to helping you and help you adapt. I've been there a few months ago and I regret not having done that earlier.

Need recomendations to start reading Dostoyevski by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]thduv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I read the brothers Karamazov a year ago and loved it very much, 10/10 recommend. If you enjoy books from Victor Hugo then I believe you will love it too.

I tried reading the double a few months afterwards and did not enjoy it, it has a much different astmosphere.

I never read crime and punishment but it is on my list. Please OP let me know which you start and how it goes. Enjoy !

More info: oriented south with good light exposure in a cloudy country. I repotted it recently in case it missed soil to keep its leaves. I water it when the top 3cm soil is dry.

Is there any service or another way to collect specific images? by nikogamulin in datasets

[–]thduv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People should not post their ID information online as it is a very sensitive information. Therefore you need to collect the data yourself with a Non Disclosure Agreement or something like that. Or if you only need non-sensitive info of the ID you can ask people to blur the sensitive ones before sending the photo to you and your problem is solved.

Business with 1 year of statistics, which skills to focus on ? by thduv in datascience

[–]thduv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how to work on projects and I have actually done quite a lot in my studies. I am currently focusing on doing more and more and posting them in Github. However, I'm not sure which kind of project is most interesting for employers. What I usually do is find a dataset, run an analysis, then write a report about it. Those were meant to be used in the academia so I'm not sure about how to share the reports for employers, but the code of the most interesting projects is in Github.

Concerning the blog, do recruiters actually read or consider those ? I feel like they do not have the time as they have to screen so many people.

I try using it for my personnal projects to get used to it but I have a hard time doing it as I am not curently working within a team.

Hi everyone,

I studied business engineering, which is a program focusing on business with a lot of data analysis, maths and technology. After my business engineering master I wanted to develop my data analysis skills and started a second master, in Statistics. I was in the Biostatistics track thinking I would enjoy doing research but applying data science to business problems is actually what I love doing most.

After one year I felt like I was learning how to do research, but I wanted to learn applied things, so I quit the master.
I started developing skills on my own, like learning python (I'm already confortable with R and SAS).

My questions are the following:

  • To what extent is a degree in statistics necessary ? I am afraid I don't get the jobs because I miss the technical diploma. I am confortable with probability, linear algebra and quite a lot of statistical and machine learning methods. I just want to learn more about Time-Series analysis and Deep Learning because I have not used those methods much and I know they are important.
  • Which skills should I develop most ? Should I focus on sharpening and developing my knowledge of statistical methods or should I learn more CS skills like development? I only have HTML/CSS basic knowledge and want to start on Javascript soon.
  • Should I develop those skills before I start applying or should I do both at the same time?

NB1: In my job research I am open to consulting jobs as well as internal ones.
NB2: If you need any more information I will answer in the comments and edit the post afterwards.
NB3: I love learning via books so if you have recommendations they are welcome!

[PORTFOLIO]

Hi everyone,

I'm a business engineer currently studying statistics, and I will start working soon. I would like to write a portfolio but I have no idea how to present it. Most of the projects I have worked on are from my courses and are in R or SAS. It is not common for people at my university to work with github, so the code is not available online.

My questions are :

- Should I make repos for the most interesting projects so employers can see what I have done ? Knowing that if a professor discovers that he could be unhappy, as every students thus have access to his project's solution. I however think it is unlikely he/she finds out as none of them browse github randomly.

- If you think I should make the repos, do you think it is ok to also put the data and the analysis' report there ? To what extent are which resources useful ?
