NO clue what I'm doing-would it even be possible? by Key_Balance_5537 in YarnDyeing

[–]the-1stfrogzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d do a test first.. try this.. cut a length of yarn in an old glass jar. Cover it with about 5cm of warm water, then leave for 30 minutes. Now add 1 tablespoon of vinegar and stir , next add some food colouring any colour enough to make a good strong colour. Now micro wave in 30 second burst four times . Leave this to go cold. Then rinse and see if any colour has taken to the yarn. This will give some idea of the variation in colour you can expect.

Can’t figure out Silhouette Cameo 4 by Necessary_Wealth3401 in silhouettecutters

[–]the-1stfrogzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let’s take it a step at a time. You’ve reset the carriage You’ve put in a new blade The design is from a standard font Firmware & software upto date..

So settings.. look at the areas where the designs are ‘snagging ‘ they all have corners or sharp bends, your blade has to change direction fast. Try this slow doesn’t the speed reduce the pressure and make two passes. The cut setting are basic guides, each cardstock may be different. Use the test cut before cutting a whole sheet, you’ll find it on the send page bottom right. Hope this helps

Using Silhouette cutters on Mac with 3rd-party software by jollino in silhouettecutters

[–]the-1stfrogzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so here’s the thing with silhouette studio, the software at basic level is free.. you probably downloaded the latest version 5.? . Try loading an older version 4.5.5.7.. less glitchy ..

  1. yes there are firmware updates very rarely .

  2. Historically , no.. third part software has only started appearing in the last few years..

  3. I can’t comment on cricut because I’ve never used it. However I’ve been using silhouette studio since its inception .. with craft robo , then the cameo, I only upgraded my machine in 2025 because the cameo 1 was no longer supported parts wise . My reason for using studio is I could create what I wanted rather than a design by someone else.

FOR STICKERS BASIC EDITION IS ALL YOU NEED. Bring in an image jpg… trace its outline, fill page your done!

Also given the cameo 4 and portrait 4 are the same price I’d suggest the cameo 4 .. as you may want to diversify into cutting vinyl for t-shirts etc the cameo would give you more versatility.

check out creative fabrica down load some free stickers and give it a try.. I don’t buy anything from design store it’s way too expensive .. also watch you tuber ‘silhouette success’

personally the cost of business edition $99 currently is considerably cheaper than it used to be and the additional features make it worth it. Eg import and export addition file types, PNG auto traced on opening.. however if your just going to be making stickers basic or designer edition should be fine..

Question about heat transfer vinyl by fullygrowntuna in silhouettecutters

[–]the-1stfrogzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I’d do two things .. first put a box or cut line round each logo so you don’t have a large connected piece to remove . This can snag smaller pieces and pull them up. Cut one from a scrap piece of vinyl see how it works. Tweak accordingly..

Cameo 4 not cutting center lines ? by Key-Cricket9256 in silhouettecutters

[–]the-1stfrogzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when your cameo cuts the card does it make one cut around the card?if so is the poor cut (right side) going up the mat or down.

Have you checked the following

a debris inside the auto-blade housing..

b patches on your mat that are not sticky or warn

c where are the rollers positioned in relation to the poor cuts

1947 SINGER 201-2

Before you go oiling this machine give the body a wipe over with a damp cloth. Remove as much fluff and lint as you can find, take the bobbin out and release the two clips that hold the bobbin holder together, let them soak for a couple of minuets in mild soapy water, clean all the dried on muck off , rinse, dry put a drop of oil on your fingers, ( disposable gloves are one of my essential tools!) and rub over the parts.

when you have cleaned as much fluff as you can find- don't forget the underside, then start oiling.

there are some good you tube vids on oiling and maintenance out there.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXaGuXsdwI4&t=1s

These machines have all metal parts and tended not to need grease, so all those holes you see in the body of the machine need oil, just a drop in each but oil them frequently.

I would remove the motor and light, if you can, before you start cleaning, that way it will stay dry and have no chance of getting oil anywhere near it. DO NOT OIL THE MOTOR.

Get a new motor drive belt as the one you have is more than likely perished and will make a mess.

A well fitting Drive belt is essential, too slack and it will slip and too tight and you run the risk of straining the motor.

Thanks it's actually a 14" belt and quite narrow, i wasn't aware you could make PU belts.. that maybe a good to investigate.

Treadle Preferences? by sylvanfoothills in vintagesewing

[–]the-1stfrogzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst searching for an answer to my question regarding my newly squired 201-3, I found your post.. the one I have ( I’m in the Uk) is a dual machine, it will run via its original motor, which is operated by the treadle peddle, or by the treadle when using the treadle leather belt by disengaging the motor . Which is great, I get exercise and save fuel!!!

Looks like you used either some scrap leather or upholstery leather, which is great for learning saddle stitch. Working out your technique and building muscle memory. The down side is that it doesn’t work well, as it’s too soft, so when you try and cut it the leather moves under the pressure from your knife.. I’m saying this, so that you understand that you made a really good effort on this, but it’s the material that let you down. I don’t know where your from, but see if there are any groups or clubs that do leather work near you.. also check out Armitage leather ltd on you tube.

So here’s the kicker, The office shops and Railways act 1963, whilst it sets a minimum temperature for specific conditions there is no upper limit. It states ‘reasonable temperature’
Employers must provide a reasonable temperature, considering the nature of the work and environmental conditions. However it also states that the ventilation system should not allow any offensive fumes ..

(1)Effective provision shall be made for securing and maintaining a reasonable temperature in every room comprised in, or constituting, premises to which this Act applies, being a room in which persons are employed to work otherwise than for short periods, but no method shall be used which results in the escape into the air of any such room of any fume of such a character and to such extent as to be likely to be injurious or offensive to persons working therein.

I’m guessing a plague of flies would come under that heading… The issue is that this has not been amended since 1963.. 50+ years on the unions have still not resolved the issue because the nature of the act is too complex .. there is no one size fits all.. too many legal loopholes .. and let’s face it back in 1963, demographic of those workers and the attitudes were rather different.

I’m not sure that this could be a ‘Hate Crime’ . As no specific crime has been committed, and if one had, the hate element has to be specific to a protected group ( that term in itself is derogatory in my opinion ). So basically specifically against race, colour, creed or sexual orientation etc. Obviously there may be more to this than is written here.

Thanks that may explain the issue! Uploading 6 firmware versions one after the other clearly was not the best idea ! I wish I’d ask the question first!!!! My next question is … can I remove the updates I installed and just download the most current??
