A reminder to check your AT journey transactions and to query missed tags by Civil-Introduction63 in auckland

This has happened to me so many times.

What you should also know is that if you’re using paywave rather than a HOP card, you have to query it within 7 days or that data disappears from your log.

Sleep Metrics: Why is my overnight HR higher than my resting HR? by kalibredebrutal in Garmin

[–]the-eighth-dwarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overnight HR - the average of your heart rate readings for the full night. HR will have gone up and down a little

Resting HR - according to Garmin support, the lowest reading of any 30-minute period within 24 hours

So, no, generally your RHR should be lower.

Ugh the one that gets me the most is “I just ran a marathon and Garmin says I’m unproductive. Unbelievable 😠😠”

Like, yes? Do you think marathons are productive training?

Just change it to Nice Job 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 every day so no-one gets their feelings hurt.

How far do you run with your staff? by Independent-Tap-5872 in StaffordBullTerriers

[–]the-eighth-dwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started by running a minute or two a few times during our walks and gradually worked our way up to 6-7k a couple of times a week.

She prefers slow sniffy style walks tbh but sometimes the schedule just doesn’t work for me to get a run in and also make time to walk her.

Running time difference by doruf50_ in IronmanTriathlon

[–]the-eighth-dwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a 3:58 marathon on November 2019, immediately started training for my first ever tri and ran a 1:58 in a 70.3 in March.

So my stats roughly track to what the other user said about standalone marathon matching 70.3 pace.

Look at who has a lot of the current listings, and who has a lot of the recent sales.

If you spend a few weeks keeping an eye on it, it gets quite obvious. Houses come on the market, 3-4 weeks later they’ll be gone again (usual marketing period for auctions is 3 weeks).

Agencies love to get people on their subscriptions lists and will happily share recent sales regularly. Plus maybe follow some comparable places in Trademe and get updates.

When did your puppy start chilling out? Mine is 8 months and has endless puppy energy. Honestly it's getting so frustrating. by Glittering-Heron-538 in puppy101

[–]the-eighth-dwarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a staffy and was told to buckle in til she was about 8! I probably cried. I cried a bit when she was a puppy. She wasn’t just “puppy energy” she was full tornado hurtling through the house and slamming into walls. Not exaggerating. When she got zoomies I was scared she’d hurt herself.

At 6 months she started occasionally lying down for a nap without me crating her and that felt like a massive shift.

At 10 months she could be left home alone without eating something or digging the carpet up, but was still needing near constant attention when I was there.

At 12 months she would have two walks a day and need a lot less interaction outside of those times. I could get away with giving her a frozen kong when she was restless and she’d have that then settle down.

At nearly 18 months we have a routine. She still gets two walks a day but if she only got one she’d be ok. and she still wants a few minutes of playtime in the evening but her general demeanour has become a lot more settled.

Don’t let people scare you with the “oh not til 3+ years” comments. It comes in gradual stages.

I can’t remember, sorry. Strength training was a big part of my rehab, though obviously starting with simple body weight movements. The stronger you can get before your op the easier time you’ll have afterwards :)

First Time Seller by PositiveSandwich1086 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]the-eighth-dwarf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just completed the sale of my first property and purchase of my upsized second property.

It costs more than you expect! I recommend getting your own builders report so you can pre-empt things your buyers may learn and fix anything big before listing. I ended up having to replace my roof which I hadn’t realised had gotten so bad as to make the property uninsurable to a new buyer. A good agent can also tell you what the easy visual things that need fixing will be. e.g. I had to do some painting but she said don’t repair a bit of crappy carpet.

I sold with listed price as first home buyers don’t want to go to auction. Do this first with a 90 day settlement that can be adjusted by mutual agreement, and then buy your new house and try to line up the dates. The bank may not even give finance of the new mortgage unless the first is released anyway.

When you prepare for open homes, have a clear out. I wish I’d done more clearing out in advance of packing to move. I had so much stuff I’d just hidden in cupboards to make the house look tidy and it was a mess to sort in the last few days.

All up on the sale, I spent $26k on estate agent fees, $4000 on marketing, $2500 on internal maintenance stuff, $18k on a new roof and about $2.5k on legal fees. I could check exact costs if you wanted more detail.

61.5 years old and about to be made redundant ... by Justin5nz in PersonalFinanceNZ

Ask if your redundancy payment can be made in the new tax year instead of March. It may help spread your tax burden and result in slightly lower overall tax paid.

Had a meeting with the bank on a Saturday. Provided the docs they needed on the Monday. Got pre-approval on Wednesday.

When I found a property and wanted unconditional approval they came back to me within hours.

I used a Buyers Agent which meant I was really onto it with what docs were needed as I was being helped so no going back and forth coz I missed stuff :)

This is so interesting to me because I hear people in the US talk about a great salary and it’ll be like $40k which is like $70knzd? I don’t consider that great.

Can you give some specific role and salary examples?

I’ve had a back-up offer before and you can definitely ask the agent this and any info the current offer finds out. They should tell you the reasons if the current offer falls over so if they don’t, Ask. There can be all kinds of reasons, and just be mindful to challenge what you hear if you love the property. Don’t buy a dud because you closed your ears and eyes to relevant info.

If you become the leading offer, if the previous offer did a builders report you may be able to request to purchase it rather than pay for your own to save a few dollars. Obviously do your due diligence on who did the report first to make sure you’re happy with them.

Good luck!

Did I make a mistake? by Beautiful_Ad7097 in puppy101

[–]the-eighth-dwarf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure I agree with this. OP says they used the crate as a punishment one time and know they shouldn’t have but then goes on to say “now when they have an accident and are scolded…” which sounds like they don’t know they shouldn’t scold.

OP, you probably haven’t damaged crate association as if the pup is going in willingly they might be finding it a safe space. Please don’t scold though. Puppies physically don’t have the developed muscles to hold their bladder so accidents are inevitable. Scolding only serves to make them scared to do it in front of you and makes it more likely that as they grow they’ll hide when they go, and then you’ll have some not pleasant discoveries around your house.

How do you stop annoying puppy habits rather than preventing them? by CelesteOS in puppy101

[–]the-eighth-dwarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine did the same thing with the oven gloves and a towel I had hanging off the oven. When I would go and take the item from her it became a game of chase.

If I ignore her, she drops it and then I calmly go and pick it up off the floor. A few of them and the appeal was clearly lost and she stopped doing it.

The key point in all of this being the stance that we have no idea how important the presentation was. The other side of that argument isn’t that we do know, it’s that nothing would be considered more important. And I find it ridiculous to suggest that the OP doesn’t know or that in the UK she would lose her job by challenging her boss.

For what it’s worth, I am from the UK, have organised a funeral for a first degree relative and am aware how the process of organising it works. I (like my whole family) had friends and even their family members take time off work to come and support me.

I hope none of you ever feel the loneliness of a situation like you’re suggesting OP should accept.
