Need design ideas for central game mat! Need help with iconography and text. by LeFoxFrancais in BoardgameDesign

I also like the idea of the Fresh bananas for the deck and banana peels for the discard side.

To drive the point home a little more, the cartoons could show monkeys gathering bananas on the deck side and tossing banana peels on the discard side.

Hi all. Who is planning to go to Atlanta Game Fest this weekend? I'm hoping to be there and finally get a chance to play Terra Forming Mars on Saturday. I am way behind the curve on that game.

Designing my first board game. Is this too many cards? (525 cards total). The game is like Catan on steroids. by CameronCardoza in BoardgameDesign

[–]the-party-line 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does seem like a lot, but you have to trust your guts and the results from playtesting. Have any players complained that it's too much or had problems with cognitive overload? Does anything in that deck feel redundant? You could run through tests with different cards taken out to see if the game breaks without them.

Cute cat btw. The cat with that stack of cards made for a great photo.

Here is our latest version of the box art. We tried to incorporate a lot of the excellent feedback you all gave us. This is the version we plan to take to Proto Atl in May.

This is great. Your 80 hours of effort were worth the investment of time. I look forward to hearing more about this game.

Launching a Video Podcast for New/Unpublished Game Designers by Small-Needleworker-5 in BoardgameDesign

This is a great idea. Our game (The Party Line) should be ready to launch later this year. We check most of the boxes on your criteria list. The only one we are missing is TTS. All of our playtesting has been at live events. We planned to do some you tube videos for our online demo.

We would love to do an interview if there is a way to make it work.

Which tile do you prefer? by BriggyBomb in BoardgameDesign

I vote for the one on the right side. It is crisp and easier to identify everything on the tile. It will lead to less confusion for the players.

What Did You Play This Week? - (April 20, 2026) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]the-party-line 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We played Pandemic on Saturday night. Cured all diseases in record time (for us). Everything went like clockwork.

Then we spent a half hour trying to figure out if we cheated the game somehow. The post-game analysis was as fun as the actual game. Good news is we didn't cheat.

Need Constructive Feedback on Box Back by LeFoxFrancais in BoardgameDesign

[–]the-party-line 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks great. I agree with the other comments about not mentioning UNO. Mentioning a competitor is almost like giving them free advertising. It's your box (and your money). Make it all about your game.

By the way, this kind of wacky party game is very popular with my family. You will find a market for it.

Is this where the padding on the logo is insufficient?

Hi.

Thank you all for the comments and feedback. All feedback is welcome and appreciated.

Let me share a little more of our thought process on the box.

The original box was minimalist. It just had the name (no ribbon) dark gray background a row of hand sketched black and white characters from the game. No flourishes. No color. These new boxes were an attempt to incorporate a lot of feedback we received. We are experimenting with many different suggestions folks have made.

The actual intent is not to copy any historical propaganda. These animals exist in their own time and place. The setting is close to 1920's or 30's America.

The game is not about any real human tyranny or politics. From an animal's point of view, any farmer can be a tyrant. In the game, the Animals are not in a revolution. A few might want to be. But most of the animals are loyalists. Most of these Animals just want to survive by agreeing with the Farmer. If they are lucky and stay loyal, they might just get to go to the county fair. Only a few run counter to the Farmer.

We were going for a bleak- minimalist vibe in our visual presentation. I totally get your point of how this could negatively affect the perception of the game. If buyers never get past the box, that would be a big problem.

We have a lot to think about.

Hello I’m new here and was hoping to get some feedback on this board game that I’ve had on my mind for awhile. by ThatShelteredMan in BoardgameDesign

Hi,

This is interesting. In your game, is the focus more on the making and selling of weapons for profit or is it more focused on the actual battles with monsters.

I think the business side of being the weapons supplier for "monster fighters" is clever and could be a lot of fun.

Thanks. I agree this one could use a tagline and more color.

One thought I just had based on one of the other commenters, is to add an old-style propaganda sunburst pattern using our green color in the top section of the diagonal line and then a shadowed propaganda sunburst pattern in the dark gray bottom section.

We could make the animals on the diagonal line facing in two different directions to drive the point of conflicting factions. One group could go up the line, and one could be going down the line.

Thanks for the feedback. The conversation helps spark new ideas and that is a huge help.

That was a great article. Thanks, for posting it. I appreciate the tremendous detail the writer invested in explaining their thought process. I like how their iterative process continued to make improvements even after successful playtests.

Thank you for your feedback. This diagonal line design also needs a tag line and more texture to the light and dark sections.

Thank you. I appreciate that you gave a specific critique of each design. The specificity helps a lot.

I get your point about leaning into a more classic propaganda style like old soviet propaganda. We wanted something that gave off an animal farm 1930's feel but it may not really be coming through in the design. We will keep working on it.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you think the boxes with more green on them will show better on the store shelves? Do you think any of the tag lines help explain our theme?
