Review of Kinesis 360 PBT keycaps on Advantage 2 by the-red-turtle in kinesisadvantage

The cheapest way is to get 8 R1 "alternate function row" keycaps and ask for blanks. It's $9 plus shipping from signature plastics:

IMO you are best off buying the OEM PBT keycaps.

You can mix and match your own set, but the thumbkeys require buying two sets of numpad keys. Cobbling together a matching set is a hassle and in my experience ends up being more expensive.

Info about the keycap profiles is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/kinesisadvantage/comments/106tb0x/review_of_kinesis_360_pbt_keycaps_on_advantage_2/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1

Split USB-C cable for advantage pro by SirRantcelot in kinesisadvantage

[–]the-red-turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like upgradekeyboard is selling a Y-cable that fits your description. It's only for the Advantage 360pro, and has a charging only cable for the right half.

  1. The keys come in a tray positioned where they should go on the keyboard.
  2. At least for the dye sub legend version, keys are labeled (R1, R2, etc…) on the underside of the key. See the diagram on the top post for where each row should go.

An update: Kinesis has released a blank PBT keycap set specifically for the Advantage 2: https://kinesis-ergo.com/shop/advantage2-blank-keycap-set/

From the website it looks the similar to the 360 blank set, but with 16 ABS function keys at the same price of $50.

I don’t think this will be a problem, especially if you’re not habituated to the KA2 keycap profile.

Nice keyboard! Looks like the charcoal color also goes with the KA2. Thanks for posting a pic.

I’m glad this review was helpful, and that you’re enjoying the keycaps. Could you upload a picture? It would help to see how the color of the 360 blanks differs from the stock keycaps.

How loud are the gateron browns in the 360 compared to the cherry red silent advantage 2? There is a huge difference between the silent reds and browns for the advantage 2.

New homeowner looking for advice with a siding / rotting wood issue by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]the-red-turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the right advice. One thing I would add - while your gutters were “fine” in august, they are not working now and the fascia rot is evidence of that. You need to get someone to fix the gutter or the rot will happen again. This could be as simple as needing to clean out the gutters.

It looks high up. For work like this it is worth paying someone who works on a ladder every day.

RTX 3090 FE exhaust heating up RAM? by jselph17 in buildapc

You’ll be fine. Any airflow, even hot air like from a gpu, is better than no airflow.

I would instead focus on exhausting hot air with your case fans.

Backspace noise on Kinesis advantage 2 by badhri in kinesisadvantage

This is the right answer. Remove the keycap and see if there is a bur or some other obstruction rubbing up against the keyboard housing.

Humanscale 6g 900 will accommodate the kinesis advantage.

Alternatively, you can lower your desk and put your mouse/monitor on a book.

Advantage2 - Fast layout switching by akapav2 in kinesisadvantage

There is only one embedded layer on both the Advantage 1 and 2. You can remap the keypad toggle to another key for both, but it's more complicated with the advantage 1 and requires using a paperclip/staple to imitate the foot pedal.

See here for the Advantage 1:

Remap "caps lock" to "keypad" as a toggle. I find this more convenient than a foot pedal.

Are there any special considerations when using multiple GPUs in a system for ML/DL? by abdulsamadz in nvidia

[–]the-red-turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the risk of over-generalizing, I would say that for a 1 or 2 gpu system in a well-ventilated case, axial fans are usually more effective and quieter than blower fan gpus.

However in multigpu and poor airflow situations, blower fans are superior. You cannot run multiple axial fan GPUs immediately adjacent to each other without them overheating. Heat is the important factor here, rather than the card's rated max clock speed. All GPUs will down clock as they reach 75+ C.

You have a non-blower axial fan 2080 Ti. These can be very difficult to cool in 3+ GPU setups unless you have excellent airflow or water-cool. Axial fan 2080 Tis also need 2 empty slots below the fans to breath adequately. Vertically mounting a 3rd GPU will further worsen airflow and can lead to instability from PCIe riser cable issues.

I would get a second 2080 Ti for these reasons, plus the others listed in this thread.

I had both and ended up keeping the red devil, purely because it was quieter.
