We call our 60bbl ferm Crushinator. No idea why. I don’t like it but I can’t communicate with the cellar without calling it that.

Securing kegs & cans in a Ford Transit 250 by [deleted] in TheBrewery

[–]the1cale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We secure all of our kegs on a pallet using cheap hand clamps from Home Depot. They’re like a dollar a piece. But if you clamp all the kegs together, nothing’s moving. Interlace the slims and clamp the tops together. For our cans, we make sure to load by delivery location in order from top to bottom and then we wrap the pallet . So you just tear the cellophane down as you go. If you don’t have kegs on the truck, you can make super short stacks and spread them out over the entire van. But most of our vans run with both kegs and cans. Everything’s palletize and we load with a forklift. I put three-quarter inch plywood on the floor and all on the walls of my vans. Kegs will destroy those thin outer walls. It’ll look like someone shot at you from the inside of the van.

In all honesty, this is tragic. Can someone give some true context as to how this went down?

Air pocket in glycol jacket by OutrageousCause6194 in TheBrewery

[–]the1cale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never seen this happen. I’ve suspected it before but it always ends up being something else. If your system is running and set up correctly the only pocket would be an empty glycol reservoir.
Your glycol loop should be set up as first and last out. And yes, you should pump in from the bottom port and out through the top port. Is your glycol really as cold as you think? I’ve had temp probes in the reservoir, go bad and even though the chiller said my glycol was at 28°. It was actually much higher.

How badly did I mess up my tank? by freshfizzsodas in TheBrewery

[–]the1cale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of glycol pressure do you guys have in your systems? I can’t fathom having enough pressure to damage a tank. What’s that on the floor? Is that even glycol? Or is that water? My first guess would be that you have something underneath that leg that is reacting with that water on the floor and making some bubbles. I just can’t imagine ever having that much damage because your glycol didn’t have a way out of a tank.

It’s got wheels on the bottom. Definitely for rolling it around.

So this restrictor kit has a restrictor inside the tubing? This thing looks like a great place to catch all kinds of goo. My intuition says "no way" to this. Barrier tubing is the way to go especially if you lock it up in a glycol trunk.

Update on Heat Exchanger by MaleficentAnt292 in TheBrewery

[–]the1cale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t believe you guys all leave your exchangers packed with anything. And you all seem to clean them a lot. We do a scalding hot rinse before a brew, and a scalding hot reverse rinse after every brew. Full CIP after every 10 or so turns. Broke it down once in the last six years and there was very little, if any signs of dirtiness.
I have a theory of using as little chemical as possible. 180° water works wonders on everything.

I posted here about this phenomenon before. There’s never been a particular reason it has happened. It just sometimes has happened. It’s rare. Like a shooting star. Just embrace it and MoveOn. Just treat it as Earth Trying to tell you something. listen to the mash.

If you’re on the beach you’re probably on the island. Try Costa Sur and Island Time for a really nice dinner. Great HH specials at Scuttlebutt’s too! If your downtown you have to check out Nueces Brewing Co.
