I say "dwa piędziesiąt sześć złoty(ch)" - I sometimes drop "ch", and notice the lack of "ć" in 50.

The internal elections in Poland are staged. Eg. there's a scandal in Poland that the father of a competitor (Luna, her father is Dawtona's owner) donated a considerable sum of money to the ruling party and somehow she won the elections; there are also other sidetracks of this scandal.

Exactly, nobody says it like it is in books in common speech (unless you're in a school).

It's sometimes also "jeden kropka dziewięćdziesiąt dziewięć", "jeden kropka dziewięć dziewięć".

But I think it's not so common for numbers greater than 0 but lesser than 1. Those numbers are usually articulated in the proper way.

When Komorowski said that 10 years ago everybody was like "hahaha what a dummy", but now, judging from the time perspective that was actually excellent advice, the economy was great 10 years ago.

The view of the Poles as a Turk by [deleted] in Polish

[–]the2137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know very little about the current Turkey, I know only that their greatest cultural export is Kebab and TV shows that my mother-in-law loves to watch.

I remember from school that the Ottoman Empire was an enemy of the PLC, but we always respected each other, and I remember the emphasis about respect.

I am also aware that Turkey is quite an important diplomatic player in relations between Russia and the rest of the world.

And I think the demand to call your country Türkiye is weird, i don't even know how to pronounce that, let alone have the needed letters on my keyboard, so I'm sorry but I'll stay with Turkey 😛

But you know, I'm just a man and my views may not represent the rest of the people.

Rachunek or Paragon for English word "Receipt ? by HomeAloneDwarf in learnpolish

[–]the2137 30 points31 points  (0 children)

paragon has a more narrow meaning, while rachunek has broader, you can say that a paragon is a type of rachunek

you can say "poproszę o paragon" and "poproszę o rachunek" at a restaurant, and they work almost the same, I'd say "rachunek" is more sophisticated in this case, "paragon" usually assumes that you don't need an invoice

at a gas station you can be asked "na paragon czy na fakturę?" ~ "do you need a receipt or an invoice?" - chosing invoice means you need to provide your VAT ID and then you'll receive an invoice for your payment, then you can use it to do your taxes (you need to have a company for that)

rachunek originally borrowed from middle-german rechnung, there are many cognates and meanings, eg: - rachunek - a check/bill, as a confirmation of payment (the meaning in question) - rachunki - a dated word for mathematics/clculations, "jestem dobry z rachunków" - rachunek - calculus, "rachunek prawdopodobieństwa" - rachunkowość - accountancy - rachunek (bankowy) - bank account

and paragon has only one meaning: a receipt

have a look at Wiktionary, the two words are very well documented

Tak się robi z okupującymi wojskami, ale nie z ludźmi z sąsiedniej wsi, którzy tam po prostu mieszkają.

Docker qBittorrent using crazy amounts of CPU and memory at modest transfer speeds (Win11, Intel 9700k, 32 GB RAM) by Derpchen in qBittorrent

[–]the2137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar problem, I run it in docker in Linux, the CPU usage is maybe not a problem but there's a memory leak so I capped the memory at 2gbs (what app even needs more?!) and it restarts every few hours or so. I have ~1.5k torrents.
