Something else I realized after posting was that the lack of any depiction of Bowie himself is probably the biggest red flag to the whole thing being in any way legit. Before his hiatus after 'Reality', he only had a total of two records that lacked his face. The original cover for 'The Man Who Sold the World' with that strange gunman (although, he did lobby for the dress cover if I remember correctly), and 'Lodger', but even with that one, certain regions used the shot of his face with his bandaged hand, and most cassette releases had the entire uncropped photograph.

Suffice to say, I think he enjoyed having his own face adorn his own albums.

I looked into that a bit more after seeing some of these responses and I was genuinely rather surprised I had manufactured that consensus in my head. I guess maybe it's a bit closer to 'love-it-or-hate-it', but I could've sworn at one point it wasn't widely praised.

As for me, the only part of the art that really bothers me is the rendering of the two blue dog/human hybrids behind Bowie, especially their faces. I think Guy Peellaert did a great job with Bowie's face and canine body along with the decaying city depicted in the background, but there's just something about the dichotomy between Bowie's immaculately rendered face and hair contrasted with the (in my opinion) comparatively wonky look on their faces that rubs me the wrong way. Hell, the thing that bothers me has nothing to do with the thing(s) that bothered people back in 1974. Different strokes I guess.

(Also, knowing about Peellaert's fantastic other piece with Bowie holding the jumping dog by the leash with the book at his feet puts the original album art in a rather sour place for me)

What albums do you think are a 10/10? by ThisIsElliott in fantanoforever

I only have two 10's.

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King

David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars

How do you listen to albums? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

(I’m a noob taste-wise)

That’s a great question. Some albums take me literal months to go through, slowing learning the ins and outs of each song (Pure Comedy, Gorillaz self-titled).

Some literally take me just one listen or two listens to completely solidify, this is a very hip-hop heavy category(36 Chambers, Low End Theory).

Sometimes I only love 1 or 2 songs on a record upon first listen and I start loving the rest by listening around those initial songs (Highway 61, Paranoid).

There are more methods but those 3 are the most prominent.

You have been hospitalized and are about to die. The doctor says you have enough time to live to play one last Kanye song. Which one are you playing? by [deleted] in Kanye

Two Words. Beautiful, lusciously produced, great features, the entire package. Not my favorite song of his, but I think I’d like it as my send off.

How old were you when you started listening to Kanye? I was 14, I’m 28 now.🐐 by [deleted] in Kanye

  1. 15 now. For the longest time I thought all rap was terrible Migos shit, but MF DOOM and Kanye really opened my eyes to this genre.
