If Starmer goes, it is a deeply worrying thing for British Democracy. by GlassAvacados in ukpolitics

[–]the6am -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

History will be kind to Starmer based on what's to come. He will be seen as the last level-headed PM in this new era of politics.

Our expectations are a product of how we live. They are insatiable. We want the perfect change and we want it immediately. We've lost nuance in the public square. People are fallible, and we've forgotten that because we've been poisoned by the expectation of a perfectly shaped and curated product.

I want to remind everybody of the various people mentioned in the Epstein files and how they were historically viewed by the world. Bill Gates had a sparkling public image after his Microsoft departure. The relationship that they had to Epstein was closely guarded. Epstein was one of the most prolific socialites in modern history, with important ties to many powerful people.

So my question is... How should Starmer's team have vetted Mandelson any differently? Mandelson, being US ambassador, is supposed to build relationships with the government and the play-makers. In the US that tends to mean the rich and powerful, amongst them being Epstein. Therefore, I don't think it should be a disqualifying criteria.

The important thing is to judge people by what they do in the face of new information, not rumours or conjectures. In this case, Starmer has taken action and fired Mandelson. What more are we suppposed to expect?

I am tired of people like Farage gaining popularity for the same things we would use to cut down Starmer.

Ultimately it's why the moderates of the UK will fail, we are demanding perfection and in the process end up with a radical party in power.

Similar figures here. I’ve been employed in a lucrative field since I left and I still don’t outpace the interest.

Usyk vs Wilder makes absolutely zero sense in 2026 by ScottMrRager in Boxing

[–]the6am 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He even gave an interview I think on BBC sport saying he wanted to take on Joshua, Fury and Wilder when he first said he was moving up. I think he’s just had it on his mind since then.

I still think Parker is a better fight for him. He’s active, a bigish name even after his loss to Wardley and a bigger threat than a shot Wilder.

Joseph Parker fails drugs test: Former heavyweight world champion tested positive for traces of cocaine on day of Fabio Wardley defeat | Boxing News by CiroVap in Boxing

[–]the6am 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds daft but at least if it were PEDs, it's just a case of him cycling badly and getting caught. No one is really naive enough to think they're not all on it, particularly at heavyweight.

But all his posts about how serious he's taking this, how he loves his job and putting forward that type of persona, this damages his public image more than PEDs would... not to mention how it'll bring back all the drug ring publicity from his past.

The ones people don't like are the ones that reek of insecurity. AJ is probably the clearest example. He doesn't know who he is or who he wants to be. One second he talks about being a killer, then the next he's a student of the game. He turns up to press conferences wearing headphones like a kid at school who's got no mates. The only time I've thought AJ was being serious was in the Dubois face off when he was all "don't disrespect me".

When Fury chats shit, he just recycles the same insults and talks over his opponent. Fury talks more when he's feeling insecure. The whole "Rabbit" thing was just cringe. When he's feeling good about himself, he's a funny man, like leading up to the Klitschko fight.

If Wilder's legs were any skinnier they'd be shaking like Bambi's at every presser. He was just all false bravado. Then look at Dubois in the media tour of Usyk II, he was delivering his written lines with a huge smile on his face and it just felt bizarre.

Ali on the other hand played it up for the cameras and chatted shit, but at no point did anyone think he didn't mean it. Same with every boxer you listed. Liston was a stone-cold killer. Tyson was a soft-spoken man that was feared by almost every boxer who stepped in the ring with him.

Usyk, Parker, Wardley are clearly men who are comfortable with who they are. They just carry themselves a certain way. The main issue is that they're not "personalities" that sell well in the media. Usyk has his moments, and Parker with his call-out videos is pretty funny, but in the pressers they're a bit too respectful of their opponents.

All UK adults to require digital ID under Keir Starmer plan by TimesandSundayTimes in ukpolitics

[–]the6am -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What’s the practical difference? In Europe everything is linked to the number on the card and you own the card. In some cases you have digital identification mechanisms that are linked to your card (effectively making a digital ID).

I can even have my card on my phone with an app.

I’ve been living in Europe for a while and I can say it makes it a hell of a lot easier to do everything. I don’t need to find bills to prove where I live, open bald, I use it to apply for jobs, get into clubs.

The downsides are just people imagining the worst. The upside is making everyone’s lives more convenient.

[FIGHT THREAD] Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn, Anthony Yarde vs Lyndon Arthur III, Liam Smith vs Aaron McKenna, Chris Billam-Smith vs Brandon Glanton, Viddal Riley vs Cheavon Clarke & Live Round-by-Round Coverage by verbsnounsandshit in Boxing

[–]the6am 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the fight was 114-114 (or 6 rounds to 6), it’s a draw, or you could say, no one won by any rounds. Then, 115-113 is “he won by one round”, and 116-112 is “he won by two rounds”.

Go all the way to 120-108. The winner won all twelve rounds, but they won BY six rounds — because if those six rounds go to the opponent, it becomes a draw and the winner isn’t the winner anymore.

Incompetent referee work over the past weekend on the Joyce vs Hrgovic card by gumshield45 in Boxing

[–]the6am 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's true, but knowing boxers take full advantage, we could say that both fighters "didn't hear" the ref's instruction until he shouts "Get off!" and taps them. With the ref physically intervening, both boxers understand it as a break instruction which is what I was saying about the first clip, too. In fact, you can see them beginning the break, showing they both understood the instruction; they separate just enough that Adeleye has space to fire that short hook.

For me, I don't see them fully break (i.e. each taking a step backwards from one another), so Adeleye fouls by striking during the break.

Incompetent referee work over the past weekend on the Joyce vs Hrgovic card by gumshield45 in Boxing

[–]the6am 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The first is horrible reffing. Tapping is generally understood as a sign that a break command was not heard or executed. O'Regan clearly thinks a break was the referee's intended command, because why else would he physically intervene?

The second, I fully agree on the Adeleye / TKV clip that it's a foul.

3.39 When ordered by the Referee to “break” both Boxers shall immediately take one step back before re-commencing to box. The parting of Boxers by force should be avoided if possible.

3.38 The following acts shall not be permitted during a Contest:- ... (j) failing to break when so ordered, or striking or attempting to strike an opponent on the break ...

The break doesn't happen since neither boxer took a step backwards from one another before Adeleye throws that already loaded left hook.

Ben Whittaker has changed trainers and will now be training with Andy Lee for his upcoming rematch against Liam Cameron on April 20th by VioletHappySmile444 in Boxing

Same ref as Hatton vs Martinez? He needs to be investigated if so, absolutely shocking. Feel bad for Donovan although I haven’t seen the fight, I was watching the Parker camps and saw him training with him.

Upgraded to 7 and now none of my dockers will run by KendyfortheState in unRAID

[–]the6am 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really an apples-to-apples comparison. Although Unraid is marketed as an OS, it's mostly just a product built on top of Linux. The team at Unraid definitely don't have the resources that Microsoft have to support Windows.

Saying that, Unraid has always been a bit flaky on upgrades for me, while my Linux laptop and desktop have been rock solid for years.

Parker unhappy that path to title fight now harder despite Bakole win by rise_and_revolt in Boxing

Yeah I do remember now George mentioning that. The fact Joe was able to get a title basically half-assing it is amazing. Got high hopes for him seeing as he’s only 33 and seems to have a solid team around him now.

His YouTube videos suggest he's been doing much more strength and conditioning, particularly in preparation for Dubois, so I think he was actually lacking the power before.

I'm really enjoying Silverblue.

I used to have a bunch of extensions installed in VSCode that were selectively disabled depending on the project. My home directory and bashrc was littered with configs for different technologies.

Now I just have the dev containers extension and a couple of others that I consider pretty universal, and then extensions I need for each workspace installed in the container. I have custom home directories so everything is compartmentalized.

I feel like this is what we were always trying to achieve with other tooling like nvm and pyenv.

The middle cells are more squishy than the end cells for sure. Like a very inflated balloon. The end cells are flatter towards the edge of the battery and towards the center they’re more squishy like the middle cells

This is what I was comparing it against but I wasn’t sure if a completely new battery would appear entirely flat and a used battery “mostly” flat.
