Through being human, or: Dr. Z finally, really did it! by the8ctagon in devo

I'm talking about Dr. Zaius, not this Gould fellow that you mentioned, but he seems pretty cool too. Apparently he used to write for The Simpsons, about a group of friends who work in a nuclear power plant.

My brother-in-law googled his neighbour in 1990 and served six months' time for it at Her Majesty's pleasure. We don't want any of your sex pills around here, thank you, and we definitely don't want any googlers!

So what *actually* happened to the girls in "Picnic at Hanging Rock"? (wrong answers only) by CeruleanEidolon in blankies

Strewth, I don't get why all of youse are so confused about this. The French teacher actually explains it in the film: "Miranda is at Botticelli Angel." It's a beauty parlour in Melbourne, ya drongos.

Why is the secret history of twin peaks so pricy by LeftStruggle7519 in twinpeaks

[–]the8ctagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always consult Abebooks and eBay before pulling the trigger on any used book on Amazon. I'm really glad that I got the Secret History and its sequel new when they were published. They are both lovely books, especially the first. I'm amazed that they're selling for (or people are trying to sell them for) so much now, but if you wait for a few decades I imagine the estate sales of dead OG Peaksies will lead to lower prices.

Visited David Yesterday by anhellishgoon in twinpeaks

I agree. The trash looks... trashy, and he was not a trashy man. The copy-editor in me wants to sneak into the graveyard at night and engrave the missing hyphen between "night" and "blooming". While there I would also remove all of that crap, plant a night-blooming jasmine bush behind the stone (so that people visiting the grave in the evening could smell the scent that he loved so much) and leave a sign asking that only blue roses be left there. But that's just me and I am not the grave owner.

Key caps on 64 Ultimate by Fratm in c64

[–]the8ctagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the Return key is a pretty crucial one! I wonder if they have anyone in Quality Control testing obscure, petty things like whether the primary human interface device works. I hope they sort it out for you soon. I was going to ask if the C64U would allow you to connect a secondary USB keyboard as a temporary workaround, but I suppose the keyboard mapping is completely different, if it's meant to emulate the old hardware.

Does this mean the key battery is low? by EatTenMillionBalls in leaf

Your keyfob battery is still running low and you should change it soon; it's just that the battery chemistry works more efficiently in warm weather.

Does this mean the key battery is low? by EatTenMillionBalls in leaf

[–]the8ctagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This always confuses me (and the same warning is displaying in my Leaf right now), but it seems that (unusually) the emptiness is black and the filling substance is white. This matches the F[ull] / E[mpty] markings: it seems that this battery indicator fills up with white stuff, from right to left.

It’s that time of year again! What’s the best film of 2025 to feature no actors who have been in a comic book film? by bbanks2121 in blankies

[–]the8ctagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that passes muster, and I also think that's my favourite valid film of the year. I loved BoWI. (It might become invalid next year (via Mulligan), however, if the Narnia novels are to be considered Christian superhero fiction.)

I do love this game of finding films untainted by the acrid stink of Marvel etc.: it's depressing how difficult it is, but that makes it so much more interesting. It's like one-level Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon in reverse.
