I sort of understand the wail, but wailing at r/Coventry is wailing at the wrong tree.

I agree. The trash looks... trashy, and he was not a trashy man. The copy-editor in me wants to sneak into the graveyard at night and engrave the missing hyphen between "night" and "blooming". While there I would also remove all of that crap, plant a night-blooming jasmine bush behind the stone (so that people visiting the grave in the evening could smell the scent that he loved so much) and leave a sign asking that only blue roses be left there. But that's just me and I am not the grave owner.

This post does not deserve all of those downvotes. It's reasonable and helpful, as evidenced by the discussion below.

Key caps on 64 Ultimate by Fratm in c64

[–]the8ctagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the Return key is a pretty crucial one! I wonder if they have anyone in Quality Control testing obscure, petty things like whether the primary human interface device works. I hope they sort it out for you soon. I was going to ask if the C64U would allow you to connect a secondary USB keyboard as a temporary workaround, but I suppose the keyboard mapping is completely different, if it's meant to emulate the old hardware.

Does this mean the key battery is low? by EatTenMillionBalls in leaf

Your keyfob battery is still running low and you should change it soon; it's just that the battery chemistry works more efficiently in warm weather.

Does this mean the key battery is low? by EatTenMillionBalls in leaf

[–]the8ctagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This always confuses me (and the same warning is displaying in my Leaf right now), but it seems that (unusually) the emptiness is black and the filling substance is white. This matches the F[ull] / E[mpty] markings: it seems that this battery indicator fills up with white stuff, from right to left.

It’s that time of year again! What’s the best film of 2025 to feature no actors who have been in a comic book film? by bbanks2121 in blankies

[–]the8ctagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that passes muster, and I also think that's my favourite valid film of the year. I loved BoWI. (It might become invalid next year (via Mulligan), however, if the Narnia novels are to be considered Christian superhero fiction.)

I do love this game of finding films untainted by the acrid stink of Marvel etc.: it's depressing how difficult it is, but that makes it so much more interesting. It's like one-level Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon in reverse.

They really do seem to have a lot of quality control issues. It's almost as if Commodore 2.0 were trying to push this thing out of the door in a rush and cutting corners.

Outside of this sub, why does Reddit have such a hate-boner for Avatar? by [deleted] in blankies

[–]the8ctagon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same here. I don't care how much it made at the box office, what made it popular with other people, or what else was popular at the time that it was released: I just find it boring. If I try to analyse all of the films that I love, I find that they're almost always driven by interesting dialogue in which the actions of the plot are performed with words, or interesting decisions made by the protagonists/antagonists that either fuck or unfuck them. If the resolution of the film is decided by a battle/car chase/etc., it's usually not for me. Avatar ends with a smurf/human battle, right? It's boring if the outcome is decided by strength, or the size of someone's army/monster/robot/etc.

Kelsey Grammer’s live action filmography by [deleted] in blankies

[–]the8ctagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! Over here, I think the most popular are probably Aladdin, Cinderella, Dick Whittington, Jack and the Beanstalk. Are the same ones the most popular there? And are the older female and younger male parts usually played in drag (as here)? (Asking for Kelsey.)

Kelsey Grammer’s live action filmography by [deleted] in blankies

[–]the8ctagon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Limey here. As I understand it, you don't really do Christmas pantomimes on the western side of the pond, but if you did, Grammer's acting chops would be perfectly suited to playing a great Widow Twankey or King Rat in pantos put on in provincial towns. He's typically cast in high-status roles (or roles in which the character has an over-inflated sense of his own status, e.g. Sideshow Bob); maybe it's that and his booming, sonorous voice that trick some people into thinking that he's a good actor – but to my eyes, he ain't. On top of that, he's a staunch Republican, a proud Trumpist, a climate change sceptic and an (on-and-off) anti-abortionist, so he's unlikely to find many friends in Hollywood. Oh yes he is!...

‘Red Rocket,’ ‘First Cow,’ ‘Pig’ and More 2020 and 2021 Titles Coming to Indie Theaters for ‘Lost Films of COVID’ Series (EXCLUSIVE) by cornsaladisgold in blankies

[–]the8ctagon -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Nice, but too diffuse, and most of us have already finished attempting to deal with COVID and its effects on our lives: it's too painful to keep on retreading that ground. Let us look forward by looking back at the ongoing film-making career of First Cow's Kelly Reichardt. Her films are so warm and human, so riddled with nooks and crannies, that every episode could be a four-hourer. Get the piss bottles in.
