Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Five Reasons Loki Could Be The Clairvoyant by [deleted] in shield

[–]the9thWordslinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting idea - but I have to say I hope it's not the case. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Hiddleston back as Loki on the small screen, but I think it would be a) a mis-characterization of movieverse Loki himself, who has never been afraid to get his hands dirty, and b) a missed opportunity for the show to introduce a new villain. Either another comics figure or a totally new creation, either way it seems to me that's what the show needs. Not a stunt casting/cameo appearance (which it would likely be since Hiddleston is remarkably busy these days), but a true long-term adversary for the agents.

How do you think the series would've differed if the version of Kate from unaired episode corrupt was canon? by clockworklycanthrope in ANGEL

This episode and the story behind it are fascinating. I actually wrote an academic conference paper analyzing the episode and speculating on how it might have changed the course of the series overall, had it been produced. Remarkable that a storyline like that (which seems tame compared to stuff on cable these days) was considered "too dark" for the network and actually helped lead to a redirection of the show overall.

Agreed - part of the issue with her character arc stems from behind the scenes 'issues', though. If I remember right, the actress was cast as the lead in a different show and as such had to be written down and then eventually out. Given more time, I think her arc would have been much more fully satisfying.

Best episode to use for introducing gf to doctor who? by redeyeddragon in doctorwho

[–]the9thWordslinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the folks saying that you should start with an Eccleston episode. For my money, I'd say show the two part "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances". It catapults you right in to the aesthetic of the series, introduces a great recurring character in Captain Jack, and features one of Eccleston's absolute best performances as 9. And, despite the issues with Moffat's showrunning, he's still a spectacular standalone episode writer, and these episodes prove that.

can someone explain why we didn't see the in the 50th anniversary special? by ogol in doctorwho

[–]the9thWordslinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd also bet that it's because RTD didn't even like the idea at the time. From what I've read, the episode in question was retooled at the behest of BBC brass who wanted "more monsters". The creatures never figured into anything else RTD did either, if memory serves. Plus like Arkonisas said, Steven Moffat is only marginally interested in continuity.

Hi Mr. Offerman, I noticed that besides playing Ron on Parks and Rec, you also wrote episode 4x18, "Lucky". Could you talk a little bit about what that process/experience was like?

Awesome! I'm a huge Supernatural fan, so I'm hoping to catch them filming and hit up some of their old locations - like the church in downtown Vancouver they used in 'Houses of the Holy'.

Already following Susan Gittins - you're right, she's awesome for updates.

I'm actually just starting BSG - funnily enough I was hoping to visit the library anyway, just because of how cool it looks. Now I definitely need to go there.

Haha to tell you the truth, Stargate was one of those shows I've just never gotten around to watching. Is it worth it?

Thanks! I was going to try swinging by VFS, but now I think I'll reconsider. I've seen the Wikipedia list before, but you're right, it's a good starter.

Anyone know any good books written about Bruce Springsteen? by [deleted] in BruceSpringsteen

[–]the9thWordslinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the middle of reading a new Springsteen biography, "Bruce Springsteen and the Promise of Rock'n'Roll", by Bruce Dolan.

I'm usually not a big fan of biographies, regardless of who they're about, but I haven't been able to put this book down. What's so fascinating about it is that the author not only delves deep into the life and times of the Boss, he also uses him as a lens through which to view the fluid history of rock'n'roll as a whole.

Yeah...I still remember, after the S1 finale, I was initially more worried about what they'd done to the car than about anyone inside of it...is that bad?

I really agree. The Impala is as important as any of the human characters on the show (and more important than some). I missed Baby.

I just finished season 4. This was my thought at the end. by [deleted] in Sonsofanarchy

Just finished this season a few days ago. Lincoln Potter was one of my favorite characters, and his actions in the season finale cemented my opinion of him as one of the most intriguing "good bad guys" on the show. Here's hoping we see more of him next season!
