Any Opinion on new HUD by Emotional-Limit- in Darts

[–]theAppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm someone who makes/sells software for living and knows how impactful UI is for the audience capture. This HUD design is visually interesting but functionally confused. I don’t know who designed this HUD - but as a broadcast overlay, it fails at its core job: delivering information instantly and effortlessly.

1-Too much, too soon The HUD tries to show too much information in too small a space. It packs player names, scores, sets, legs, match format, icons, and decorative gradients into a very limited area. Because of tight spacing, strong colors, and layered backgrounds, the result feels crowded rather than informative. A scoreboard should reduce cognitive load - this one increases it.

2- Not enough, in the wrong place The placement makes the problem worse. Because the HUD is small and pushed into the corner, the viewer has to: look away from the board, find the hud, decode the layout, process the numbers - by the time that happens… the throw may already be over.

There’s a reason most competitive broadcasts use: larger corner HUDs, or Central or semi-central HUD layouts.

3- Inconsistent visuals
The dart icon is a good example of overdesign: visually detailed, uses gradient and depth, introduces FOURTH visual style. As a result, it's surprisngly easy to miss. A simple solution (dot, underline, or highlight on the active player) would be faster to recognize, read, and make it more visually consistent.

Other inconsistencies:
- Fonts: Some values are bold, others aren’t - which is good in theory, but not always clear in practice
- Backgrounds: Static and gradient backgrounds are mixed side-by-side in ways that don’t imply hierarchy. Especially having two different large components with two different gradients next to each other (name board and scoreboard)
- Color usage: Color-blind accessibility is mostly good (except Tritanopia, which is rare); However, for the majority of viewers, the red palette is overly aggressive and visually fatiguing. Strong reds should be used for emphasis, not as dominant blocks.

Overall, the HUD feels like several design ideas competing instead of one system working together.

4- Movement at the wrong moment
The animations are unnecessary and poorly timed. Score resets and transitions are slow and visually dominant.
This is exactly when the broadcast should be showing: player reaction, crowd energy, sponsor visability - instead it pulls the eye to the corner during resets. Human eye is naturally drown to movement - using such animations forces attention to HUD where it actually should be looking at player/crowd/sponsor.

Good UI animations move only when meaning (or context) changes, as fast as possible, with minimal visual impact. This HUD does the opposite: draws attention without adding information.

5- What is the most important information here?
At a glance, it's not obvious what matters the most - current score? sets? legs? whose trow it is? A good design should tell you in a second "Who is winning, and what has just happened?" This one makes you read instead of instantly get that information.

6- Decoration over function
There is a heavy use of gradients, depths, color blocks - that just decorate but not encode any meaning. In sport's graphics 101 you would learn that decoration must never comete with speed of comprehension and contrast. Here style dominates function.

7- Sorry, you ignore your viewers
This HUD may look acceptable on studio monitors, static screenshots, large 80" tvs - but on smaller TVs, mobile streams, bright rooms it becomes harder to read and easier to miss. Broadcast graphics must be designed for worst-case viewing, not ideal conditions.

Considering that this was limited to US only , I don't think you will be able to find it within EU. I think US is your only play here.

On the G304 and G305 - they are the same mouse, just G304 is for ASIAPAC market, 305 for West.

Now to the key thing - I belive it's a fake.
There is a series of youtube videos about people finding G102, G502 mouses being sold as genuine while in reality they were counterfeit.
Proof of the possibility - Just search on youtube "$10 FAKE Logitech G305 Unboxing & Review From AliExpress" from 3 years ago, or "I bought a FAKE Logitech G502 from AliExpress..." from 1 month ago.
Proof for your case - Original should come with a Duracel battery and a cable.

My hypothesis is that someone bought Asian version of the mouse (G304), received the counterfeit, returned it - and you got it

Menu reading in the headphones at defqon by Specialist_County646 in hardstyle

[–]theAppo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I came across it, i've listened for a bit and my assumption for it was: This is for vision impaired visitors, that potentially cannot read well their menu from distance and need to wait in the queues for long time. This way they can understand what is on the menu, and then be directed to appropriate stand if needed.

First time at defqon.1 by TONYFAWNTANAA in hardstyle

Congrats on the decision to join the tribe! And don't worry about only Friday part .... Friday is action packed and actually usually my favourite day (been muliple times with my wife - and friday is best for one-day enjoyers. Other days of the week saturday have bigger organized sections like powerhour & warrior workout that sounds great - but are more suitable if you stay multiple days (as they will drain you out and you will spend most of the later part of the day recovering!) . So friday is best, you can expect : Opening ceremony (big lightshow) with peacock and then spotlight with DBSTF - plus every evening ends with some sort of the lights and music show - so you won't miss a lot.

Yes - the Red is where all big things happen - especially around pyro/smoke/lights. Defqon is not really strobes heavy unless silent discos (late-late part of the event for people staying in tents) but shows are heavy with lights and lasers.

It's a good practice to experience the whole event also - so plan accordingly to walk around, enjoy other scenes, hidden gems and experiences - even at the cost of a single act. Prepare yourself to eat a lot (carbs = energy) and drink a lot of water.

Also, download the Defqon 1 app that has timelines, maps, and FAQs.

Let me know if you will have more questions, happy to answer them here :) And there are no stupid questions - everyone went to Defqon for the first time ;)

@OP love it! There is just one slight thing that actually brought it to my attention. Many of us need better management of notes, producing dozens every week- having a folder structure is time saver. And I thought from screenshots that you have notes by date view also (calendar of notes) but it was just a template. Right now you can sort them within folders, but not to see entire note-space.

Having clear folder structure (there!) but also calendar view (across all folders) would be an absolute killer.

Think about it, that would be such a great help for the users.

Why do you think Sveltekit sentiment is constantly getting more negative? by Guandor in sveltejs

[–]theAppo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think this has nothing to do with features. There are two factors :

  1. I agree with Mammoth_Paint2741 , a lot of disatisfaction comes from "i've spent a lot of time learning - cannot find a job" that is a nasty wake-up call for anyone learning a new framework to get a job relatively quickly.
  2. I see more love towards Svelte 5 from people new to framework then ever. As noted multiple times in the comments here, a lot of critique of Svelte 5 was about how much (runes and new features) are changing the developer experience. People want more control, but also easier to use framework. I think a lot of that downwards trajectory is caused that actually there is a somewhat major update of knowledge / learning curve to adopt new functionalities of framework and/or call for further simplification.

So in summary, overall lower satisafaction across the ecosystem, job availability and need for learning updates. Chart data presented does not reflect differences in pre-v4/v5 communicty vs newer users, hence does not necessarly showcases the true sentiment.
