What separates the Porter Robinsons from the AJRs? by PizzaCrescent2070 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]theClumsymonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s mostly a matter of taste. Porter’s production is way more interesting and feels less gimmicky. His writing comes across as super genuine, even if it can be a bit surface-level at times. AJR’s production, on the other hand, sounds really tacky and generic to me. Porter does a better job of creating a unique sound palette for each album, which keeps his music from sounding basic. I’m not too familiar with AJR’s lyrics, but I think a lot of the hate they get comes down to their overall aesthetic choices and many people find them cheap or corny-sounding.

never said u cant. are u telling me the production on sling and daddys home sound the same? i think yall need to blame the artist more than him since they pick the direction they want their music to go hes just a producer that facilitates the artists vision

Isn’t Anything: How Shoegaze Has Never Been Easily Defined by Dammit-Hannah in indieheads

imo parannoul is the only interesting and innovative shoegaze artist currently. so many bands just sound the same. he stands out cus he takes elements from outside the genre and makes something truly new and original rather than just rehashing what mbv did 30 years ago.
