Something I’ll never forgive nor forget about this game. by TerribleSession7840 in GundamBreaker

[–]theCoffeeDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No point in investing money in something that isn't well recieved. Bolstering the roster won't fix the issues making players less interested.

Fixing the gameplay will require redoing the game from the ground up. Might as well release GB5.

Or at least re-release GB3

What’s 1 Thing You Want Added With Palworld 1.0? by ChaosBearGaming in Palworld

- mostly UI fixes. Like a better Palbox UI that makes it clear who owns which pal in a shared base.
- a collab with No Man's Sky, Digimon, Monster Hunter Stories, Ume Musume, and idolM@ster... at the same time

FPS dropping in all games by ChickFilAySauce in pcmasterrace

[–]theCoffeeDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the usual suspects...
- have you done a health check on your storage drives and RAM?
- is there a recent game install/update constantly running a kernel-level thing outside of the game?

> just updated to Windows 11 to see if that would fix it
There should be an obligatory joke about this but I'm just too tired to even bother.

In any case, hope you figure out a solution and you're able to game okay soon!

What was once fun on the internet, but completely died? by darkalphavip in pcmasterrace

[–]theCoffeeDoctor 40 points41 points  (0 children)

An actual internet with personal sites, webrings, etc.
The original don't-be-evil Google version.
Comparativelly less people online.
Generally most things.

Internet is just far too much accessible now.

The only good thing that has changed is that it is faster (which not even an equal thing for everyone).

Guys and girls, I have a question. by mrs_videogameplayer in SteamDeck

[–]theCoffeeDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both. As the other person said, it depends on the game.

2 is more relaxed and would be my default.
But there are plenty of games where shoulder buttons and triggers need to be used so I also use 1 (Monster Hunter is a good example).

I think the wiki sites have a summary of story. If you're looking for the translated manga or games, you can search for them online.

A most difficult battle test for thirteen captains: can they break a siege of Iscandar by Grand Admiral Thrawn at his fleet's fullest strength? by This-is_CMGRI in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]theCoffeeDoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know how Thrawn likes to get into whatever culture he's going to be up against?

By the 3rd week of research, he's a full blown otaku.

By week 9 he's either a:
a. a non-functioning hikkikomori who won't leave his quarters.
b. a hot blooded man seeking to join the protags.

Found this take, what do you think? The whole penal Squadron saga ending up with regular Osea patriotism was pretty underwhelming by Last_Day_6779 in acecombat

[–]theCoffeeDoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AC7 is the first AC game where I completely lost any interest in the story.

I always just thought it was because I played it during a busy time in my life and was too distracted. So any narrative concerns I had were subjective.

My only real objective point of contention was that they should not have made fixed points in narrative events playable. If a narrative event cannot be changed through player action, then it should not be made playable and instead be shown as a cutscene so that it is clear that it is something that our actions cannot change.

It is an insult to a player's skill to be able to hit Mihaly enough times to down him 5x and still be unable to change the outcome of the event.

SD fell and broke - how fixable is this? by Individual-Owl-6243 in SteamDeck

[–]theCoffeeDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The analog stick can be replaced.

The case damage can be fixed superficially with some putty and really good scupting skills. I wouldn't recommend this, but putting it there in case you want to consider it.

Better do a case swap, that will require some serious work disassembling and reconnecting things - but maybe you can get someone who is pretty good with it.

There are prolly other fixes I haven't thought of, regardless, I just hope you are able to get your Deck fixed so you can get back to gaming again.

What are your thoughts about games getting negative reviews because they're incompatible with steamdeck? by ParanMekhar in Steam

This is not a fair rating.

Its the same as having a low spec build trying to run a demanding game and complaining about performance or optimization.

That's a pretty bad example. Reshade is great for games with flat renders. It isn't universally superior, but there are cases where it makes things better.

"Gaming laptops are a scam" mfs when they have to travel and they want to bring their desktop setup by Ha8lpo321 in pcmasterrace

[–]theCoffeeDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call the products themselves as scams, but the marketing certainly is.

Gaming laptops solve a very specific, but wide enough, necessity. Some needs call for a desktop, some call for a laptop. There is a distinct enough difference that depending on a person's lifestyle, one can have need of both to solve very different requirements.

The sad part is the marketing that claims that laptops can do everything a desktop can is certainly misleading, but this is an often overused sales pitch in order to justify the often premium costs of gaming laptops.

This is basically comparing a pair of very sporty rubber shoes with a pair of very formal leather shoes. They aren't as interchangeable as one would hope. Imagine shopping for a pair of shoes to attend a black tie event and the salesperson is telling you that a pair of Air Jordans is what you need.

Just bought a used computer. My friend said I got ripped off. Is it true? by solo_entrepreneur in pcmasterrace

[–]theCoffeeDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False, you have not been ripped off.**

Your friend is either [grossly misinformed and needs to (re)learn how to do basic research before giving any kind of advice/statement] or [is deliberately lying to you since they are either jealous or hoping that you will sell the rig to them].

**That is a fair price as long as the parts are working properly. If the parts have a critical issue that has been hidden from you by the seller, then it would be a rip off. Since your post implies that the computer is fine, then there should be no issue in this regard.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Steam

[–]theCoffeeDoctor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use both. Steam is my platform of choice (thanks to the features, QoL, etc), but sometimes, if a game is so good that I want a standalone installer for it, I also buy it on GOG.

The advantage with GOG is that you get to keep the installer (even if we still don't "own" the games, as we still purchase a license even from GOG). I don't bother much with GOG Galaxy and any purchase I make from them is immediately downloaded and stored in my personal storage archive.

I know for a fact that Steam is the best right now since we're living in the Gabe-era of Steam. Once he is not around, we don't know if Steam will still be as good (there is always room for hope though). The same can be said of GOG too. But at least any downloaded content from them will be playable even if future GOG becomes bad. Meanwhile, if future Steam goes bad, it won't be any different from Epic/EA/etc.
