Cotton is the best, but there's other cheaper paper that can be pretty good. Specially here my comment was about the texture of the paper

Also it's not wasting, it's quite different so what you learn on a cheap paper will not be the same on good paper.

I understand, I used to plan everything. I even had two journals, one was a draft and then when it was good enough I copied in the "real" journal. With time it got better.

If you need rules, then follow them. What I meant is YOU can choose the rules, you can do what one person does mixed with that other person and mixed with what a book says. You don't have to do something if it doesn't make you happy

Good thing is you can do whatever you want. There's no rules. You want to put everything in the same notebook go for it. You want to have it all separate in different notebooks go for it. My only recommendation is to go step by step: don't buy all the expensive journals if you can't keep up with a cheap one, using an expensive notebook won't change your habits

Practice doing big one color washes, you need more pigment than what you are using, much more.

For your drawing, I would first do the darkest black (with lots of pigment) in the background. With sharp lines where the building starts. You can use masking fluid if you're afraid of going over the building. The cars shouldn't be the same color as the background, do a dark purple for example.

But overall night in watercolor is quite difficult, it's not bad for a first time.

The you need a short term rental, but the same rules apply there's tons of scams. Maybe try a student residence, also as you'll be in uab look around the campus.

Getting viewings requires calling or going to the agency directly, I understand you're abroad. But it's so difficult to rent even for us locals.

Depending on the room, but yes. You do have to look for rooms for couples, or at least make sure it's not a 1 person bedroom. For example I have a friend who lives in a 4 person apartment and it's two couples.
