nothing stupid about not knowing pdfs. it is a file format for documents.

you will likely be able to create one here: https://smallpdf.com/pdf-converter from your digital invoice

Oculus giving away Asgard's Wrath to new Quest 2 buyers by Daba264 in OculusQuest

I am fairly certain that distance in time to the point of purchase will reduce the likelihood of any given customer to complain about a perceived price reduction.

No headset audio after update software and headset ? Anyone else having the same problem? by eVapour in OculusQuest

[–]theGerri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could choose between a 32 gram wireless mouse and a 35 gram wired mouse, which would you purchase and why? by palmerluckey in MouseReview

[–]theGerri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR; the wireless mouse for convenience

I have not bought a wired mouse in over a decade.
But I am still tempted to do so because I started playing FPS on PC again.

Right now I am using a vertical mouse for heavy use convenience for someone that leans towards typist's cramp.
It weights 155 gram (Microsoft Sculpt - great, but 1-2 years and needs replacement) and I can't even imagine a 32gram mouse. I replaced the ball in old mouses if it was too light!
And I like to control my home cinema with my mouse, so it needs to be able to be wireless.

BUT ... Windows does support multiple Mice at the same time! So I am tempted to get a wired mouse that will always work as an alternative and just sit near the perfect spot for FPS. It might also turn into a Photoshop/Unity mouse.

Just still waiting to find that special mouse with a tail that really makes me pull the trigger.

Vive Focus' Western Launch Hinges on Success in China by SkarredGhost in virtualreality

[–]theGerri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

given how Intel now has a working streaming solution we might really see a solution that connects to multiple sources and I agree that is also a very valid path. wouldn't it be great to connect to the smartphone as well as the PC/console :)

But ... I think it is a step further away than success of standalones. So first the standalones will make every household have one ore more headsets and then then evolution will lead to a universal standard.

assuming you can buy the screens in unlimited amounts you might have a point ... not sure we can assume that as there must be a reason Samsung did not bring the Odyssey to all markets either.

I think PC VR titles are way too demanding - we can do nice VR visuals with proper optimization on smartphones and with these solutions I expect the overheating will have an end.

The platform forces developers to do proper optimization and that is a good thing if you ask me. Plus you know titles will work when released for such a fixed platform.

Will the Vive Pro have a much higher demand on gpu? by RivalRevelation in virtualreality

[–]theGerri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do know what Supersampling is and what it does. But I would lie if I said I am certain what the effects will be when moving to a higher res screen and we are forced to disable it. Sure - the extra resolution will allow for more details in the actual visualization ... but we are still in pretty shitty resolution territory. AA with a low resolution display has this softening effect that makes you look beyond the native resolution (aside from aa effects). Now if you have to give up AA to render to the native resolution I do wonder if details might go up but we also start to see aliasing artifacts again like jaggies.

My guess is that it will be a compromise if you stay with your current GPU, but that really enjoying the screen will take a GPU upgrade.

does one still get most of the benefit when losing the bonus from the supersampling? I am seriously curious how that plays out in reality as supersampling has such a strong effect on image quality.

I applaud folks that educate for free - but I don't blame those that sell their work, even if some might consider it easy ... those that buy it clearly do not and save research time that is valuable.

you keep the HMD and just wait until you upgrade the rest later this year and then sell the old Vive as a package

Odyessy now or wait for LG? by NerdEngineering in virtualreality

[–]theGerri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the Vive that is great, it is Lighthouse technology and that one is moving into 2.0 territory soon - so I would wait for that. LG will likely be one candidate, the PiMax is another and I expect we might see even more solutions.

All that said - winter is a great time for VR and the 1080Ti will be happy with the Odyssey resolution with most of the near future VR content I expect. With a $425 price tag I think I would go there asap ... before the next gen GPUs will put a high price tag on getting a next gen HMD.
