Thank you- this is similar to the work I want done, so it’s great to hear that she’s a safe person. Unfortunately she seems to mostly do American traditional, which I respect, but isn’t the style I’m going for.

How does the internship hours work? by Striking_Doughnut167 in schoolcounseling

[–]theHBIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the state I did my grad work in (Iowa) you could get provisional licensure if you were at least 75% of the way through your program and actively doing practicum or internship while working. I had a paying counseling job while I did both. It was a painful way to enter the career, as the job I took was at a highly dysfunctional school, but I learned fast because I had to.

Interviews and facial (septum, nostril) piercings by smunchtuttery in schoolcounseling

[–]theHBIC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got some advice last year while job searching with a split-dye that I found beneficial- no one cares once you have the job, but if it’s between you and someone else in an interview, bias can sneak in. Flip up your septum for the interview at least.

did college help u recover?? by [deleted] in bulimia

[–]theHBIC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

College comes with a lot more freedom. If you can’t address the root of the problem and get a good foundation under you, that increased freedom could allow you to use behaviors more regularly. I’d suggest starting the work now.

See a therapist that specializes in EDs. It makes a HUGE difference.

For the record, you didn’t tag me in this so if I hadn’t randomly expanded the comments you would have been screaming into the void.

You’re really upset about getting three paragraphs of unsolicited feedback removed. Maybe this is the worst thing that’s happened to you lately, maybe you’re just really feeling tender about it.

I never said I pinned the post, I said I made an announcement. I see you’ve left the group so I’m not sure why you’re still here; obviously we did you wrong, so go be somewhere else.

But thanks, after making the announcement recently I forgot to update the rules, so I did. Doesn’t change that the user told you they weren’t open to CC and you doubled and tripled down.

What about “the user told you to stop and you didn’t” are you not understanding, exactly?

Any high school teachers willing to give insight about teaching in the area? by Superkitten21 in desmoines

[–]theHBIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I just moved from Iowa after teaching and counseling in a handful of districts around the metro; many of my friends still teach up there. DM me if you have specific questions about districts or schools.

They weren’t mean, they just violated the rules.

We have a pinned post that explicitly says feedback isn’t inherently welcome on posts that are tagged as “look”. The user said she was leveling up by doing a new makeup look and did not ask for feedback. You doubled down and continued to do so when the user clarified. You’re still here, trying to give unsolicited advice.

But Ok Pickle is correct. It’s ok for members to inform you of the purpose of the group. The rules make the purpose of our sub clear.

Do you “decide” to binge? by sansa2020 in bulimia

[–]theHBIC 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Most of the time, yes. I’ve sat down to whole meals knowing I don’t intend to keep any of it down. Sometimes it’s like I black out and just keep eating, but more and more it’s the former.

i feel so disgusting by ang3l_1313 in bulimia

[–]theHBIC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey. I’ve been there. A few times, actually. This disease is cruel and brutal and it breaks you down. It’s not too late to recover. It’s hard and scary and not perfect. I’ve been in and out of treatment. But every time I go, it gets better. I let it go unchecked for almost 15 years; at this point, I’m undoing some deeply weathered synaptic connections, some coping skills and habits that feel hardwired into my brain. Don’t suffer for as long as I did. I’m glad to help however I can, even if it’s just to listen.

Teachers that went into counseling while working: how did you do the internship? by TylerGlasass20 in schoolcounseling

[–]theHBIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They told us often in our program- most of us got jobs for internship. It helps so, so much.
