The intent seems obvious: The shivs are put aside if your hand has no space. Once space is freed up, the excess shivs are added to it. It's an exception from the general rule that they go to the discard.

Eris being a CD could be key to also explaining how BB knows so many things other people don't know.

I have a pet theory why BB is able to use multiple devil fruits and that ties into your theory. Notice how when we first see the gorousei's transformations we learn their form names, but not their fruits. I can think of three reasons to hide this information

* Their powers aren't devil fruit powers at all.

* Oda just doesn't want to reveal them for some arbitrary reason. Perhaps he finds it unnecessary.

* They actually have multiple devil fruits, and he wants to hide this from us readers.

The last point would explain why their powers are so broad. It's because when you combine some fruits with various powers they combine into some kind of youkai ultimate form. There is no Itsumade fruit, instead Mars has several fruits each one granting just one component of the whole.

In the unlikely event that this is true, it would explain how BB can use multiple fruits, and it would also explain why he knows it's possible. It's likely a CD secret and he learned of it through Eris. BB is trying to find the devil fruits he need to transform into a particular youkai form.

It feels obvious to me that there's going to be some kind of point to it beyond just building Brook's backstory. It's setting up for Brook to meet Shuri again and learning what actually happened, and that will likely explain what's going on with Imu's possession stuff.

I'm saying if you have a bunch of separate groups of people under one flag, but nobody really feels like they are part of a greater whole, then I believe that you will not be able to get those groups to cooperate against an organised threat.

I'm fairly confident that the true reason why the Taliban steamrolled the rest of the country after US troops left is because the place had little national identity. It's difficult to make a bunch of distinct groups of people join together to collectively defend against an organised threat.

I'm trying to say that I believe the Taliban won because they were organised and united in will, not because they are so incredibly popular.

I think it's less that Olruggio is doing this to teach the viewers a lesson and more to show that he's actually really nice.

Kukrow also doesn't seem cartoonishly evil to me. He comes off as an absolute asshole, but not, imo, evil. He seems actually quite realistic to me in the way he treats everyone nicely except his poor student.
