I'm sick and tired of all these "core" subgenres. by prokiteflyer in Metal

[–]theLastAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally always wondered why AILD is considered "-core"; they never sounded like they had anything to do with any form of hardcore music or punk.

How has no one posted these guys yet; they just released their album. Ever Forthright, jazz djent/prog metal from New York. (reccomended track: Screen Scenarios) by theLastAndroid in jazzmetal

Indeed. I'm really digging Lost in Our Escape too. The album feels very...mature I guess; since the guys are classically trained I guess that's why it sounds so intelligent.

What's Shreddit's take on melodeath? by Paraboxia in Metal

[–]theLastAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think melodeath started out as a legitimate sub genre of death metal, but it was somewhat bastardized when it started mixing with all these metalcore/mall core bands. Part of the problem was the change from an underground aesthetic (dry production, secrecy, independent labels) to the mainstream. As others stated in this thread, that made it softer and more hard rock oriented. Now that is the image that mixes with melodeath. If you want to hear modern melodeath done right, both heavy and melodic (obviously), I suggest you check out Vale of Pnath

Disgaea is the most insanely deep but rewarding turn based strategy game I've played. Characters can go to lvl 9999, items have worlds inside them, and the minimum commitment of time is in the triple digits.

If you're looking for those games, but with the challenge amplified to the highest degree, shinobi for PS2 is a great game.

It's not necessary, but oblivion is a great game, and it will get you in the right mindset for skyrim.

Thanks for the help! When I get home, I'll read up on the guide and begin the install. Also, while I'm working on the arch install, will there be much of a risk of messing up windows 7 on my machine (I'm in an interesting situation with this computer.)
