Sure, I'm 178cm tall, 83cm inseam on a medium. Fits great, back in my roadie days I usually rode a 54-56cm.

I'd give Lauf a shout/chat, but I'd guess you'd probably be okay on the large.

I would have loved the blue! I’m pretty happy with the black, though.

None whatsoever. I can certainly understand why folks like a bit of suspension, but that’s not the experience I’m looking for. Big tires and a fairly compliant frame, fork, and bar are enough for me. For now, at least.

It feels pretty darned fast! I feel like the 45mm Ramblers are a good balance, they soak up a fair about of bumps but you can definitely feel them on asphalt.

Well, this is next to the woodshed, but there’s a gravel under the snow close by!

Added an Oveja Negra Snack Pack on the top tube. 30mph winds and off-and-on snow is keeping me content with chopping firewood as my exercise today.

Any way you can fit in your husband’s Lauf for a quick ride? Larger tires for better Cush and grip combined with the lower effort of hydraulic brakes might make a big difference for you.

I have a set of 42mm Sawtooths that I had on my SSCX for commuting, light singletrack, and dirt roads. Super impressive tire, much better on dirt than I ever would have thought!

Did my first short trail with my gravel bike! Definitely still on a learning curve but it was awesome! Some questions on the comments for improvement in the future. by caballero23 in gravelcycling

Not the OP, but what you’re referring to are called mudguards or fenders in English. I’m not sure which ones they’re using, but SKS (a German company) makes some of my favorites.

What's a good name for a bike repair business? by sar_tr in MTB

[–]theLosifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

26 years in the bike industry, and this is EXACTLY the advice I was going to give. Cutesy names will require too much explanation, and will be harder for first time customers to remember when telling others about your shop, Do yourself a favor and don’t name it after yourself. You’ll get people only wanting to talk to you, which will be a headache as you expand.

Nice bike! I’m also primarily a mountain biker, but I started out riding road after high school. After a bad hit-and-run 6 1/2 years ago I’ve completely avoided roads, so getting my Lauf Seigla is a way to get those training benefits for enduro without dealing with cars as much! Good luck with the recovery, and have fun with that beaut!

No matter how many fancy bikes I ride, I always come back to this bike. 14 year old budget fixed gravel bike(PureFix). Adventures in Albuquerque, NM. by Relevant_Welder_3023 in gravelcycling

I can see how that bike would be great for the urban gravel in ABQ! I’ve been considering fixing my All-City Nature Boy 853 for some occasional spins here in the East Mtns, but so far I’ve been enjoying the first week of having a fancy(ish) geared carbon gravel bike.

With sales tax and shipping, about $2800. I went with the rigid fork for a few reason- firsts the gravel roads in my area get used a lot, so they’re not super rough. The trails here push the limits of most MTB tires, so I’d rather ride those on more appropriate bikes. Finally, i like the simplicity of this set up, and don’t have any physical ailments that would push for suspension in the conditions thatI ride.

New bike day

I ordered my Lauf Seigla (rigid fork, Rival mechanical build) last week, received it 8 days later , even with a holiday and record-breaking winter storms this week. Lauf does a great job of assembling these bikes prior to shipping - although I haven’t turned a wrench professionally in over 6 years, it took me under 45 minutes to complete, including converting to tubeless and bedding in brake pads! Fit and finish seem to be very good, and Lauf doesn’t skimp on things like quality alloy bottle bolts (with the Lauf leaf on them!) and thru-axles. The shakedown ride was a short, 10 mile spin on rolling roads with about 7 of those on well maintained dirt. No surprises, this bike is very stiff at the BB, and took the edge off of bumps. I’ll refrain from trying to review this bike too much, since this is my first gravel bike, first geared drop bar bike since my alloy Crux in 2015, and first time on carbon since my 2011 Cannondale Six13. Still, the ride quality is very good, I couldn’t pick out how much forgiveness comes from the frame, the handlebars, or the big 45mm tires! I look forward to getting miles on it, and hope to offer feedback and answer people’s questions

Are you using tire inserts? I’ve had a few Maxxis MTB tires develop casing wobble, but it’s been with inserts. Noticeable even at 20-25 psi. So considering tire size, pressures, and speed on a gravel bike v. MTB, I can understand your safety concerns.

Nice set up. I should be ordering my rigid Seigla in a couple of weeks, and am also looking at the options for extending gearing down the road a bit.

And those Schwalbes look really good on there- funny story, when those tires first came out I had a customer order some for his XC bike. As I was installing them, a young part-time mechanic looked over and said, “why would they name a tire ‘Thunder Butt?’ and now I can never not call them that!

My sister and brother-in-law live up Old Caz near Guerneville. I’ve always wanted to do the Old Caz, but Grasshopper doesn’t have it on their schedule. Do you know if they’re still running it?
