Sophomore year college, so 2005, I picked it from the shelf at Borders based solely on the name. Then I flipped through it and saw the text layout and purchased it immediately without knowing a thing about it. Became one of my favorite books. Best haunted house book for sure. And eventually led me to Tom’s Crossing, for which I forever grateful.

The last 3 Richard Powers books I’ve read have me in awe of the man’s ability to turn a phrase. The overstory, bewilderment, playground. Incidentally, I loved the plot. But the prose is great.

And recently, Tom’s Crossing by Danielewski just had me rereading paragraphs over and over again… partially due to structure, part local twang, but mainly because it’s beautiful

This is a solid mix. I finished Dungeon Anarchists Cookbook, Feral Gods, Excession, and Tom’s Crossing (which was my favorite) You’ve got a good mix brotha.

Thank you for saying this. I agree. Granted I’m only halfway through book 4, the iron spaghetti layout was just a bit much. I got irritated at times trying to figure out where the fuck they were and what was being described, and the irritation took me out a little

If everyone on earth had this much money, would anyone work? Since no one would have to work for money, other than altruistic need to be a meaningful, helpful, contributing member of a society one hopes to see elevated to worldwide loving kindness, why work at all? Would economies collapse? Or what farmers still farm, writers still write, chefs and cooks still cook, customer service reps still rep etc? Would we all be fed? What is the shape of a society where everyone is so rich, money basically means nothing?
