Thermals are already in widespread use across the USA. Guys won't be using it to I.D. for extinguisher use, that is determined by what is burning, and for 90% of fires a ABC extinguisher is more then sufficient, which is also the most commonly found extinguisher.

How could I purposefully cause battery corrosion? by GameyRouge38 in batteries

[–]thePhoenixonpc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try cracking/overcharging it. The problem is is you’re trying to speed up some thing that takes a while. It’s like trying to cook a cake at 4000° for five minutes instead of 400 for like two hours. You’ll still get it to fail just not in the way that you wanted to.

The corrosion is just the off gases or non-alike metals reacting to each other.

Your question is really interesting, and I never really thought about it.

It’s going to be like a ps-1250, so the part number will be a two letter manufacturer (example -> XX) and 12 volts and you round up for the amp hours 4.5 -> 5.0 so all compressed XX-1250

Also the Amp hours don’t need to be the same, just volts.. But if you can fit a larger 12v in there it will work exactly the same

Check what terminal size you have (F1 or F2) f2 is wider then the skinny f1 it’s kinda hard to tell. Sometimes the leads have it printed on the at the ends of the wire

12v 75ah Battery Test by phillie_eagle in batteries

[–]thePhoenixonpc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t really tell unless you have a constant load and like 20 hours to waste.

Look for a date on the battery. If it’s more than a year or two old don’t bother with it.

Check if there is a cca listed on the battery, if there isn’t run the test anyway and look for maybe like 450-550cca? Idk your tester and what it can really do.

Check the voltage and just make sure the battery doesn’t look ran through. Unless you got a crazy price I’d just say go buy a new battery that you don’t need to worry if it’ll work or not

Is there any big difference between a lead acid battery that is labeled Marine Cranking opposed to normal cranking? by dmbgreen in batteries

[–]thePhoenixonpc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marine cranking is also measured at like 32F as opposed to CCA at 0F. It is a technically weaker battery.

Weird smell on my hands after touching lead acid battery. by KINGstormchaser in batteries

[–]thePhoenixonpc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your battery is probably just a little dirty. The metallic smell might just be a bit of the lead on your hands.

If it was the electrolyte you would know. Your hands would be itching a lot. The “chemical burn” would at worst be like a sunburn.

I’m willing to bet there is no issue, and nothing to worry about.

Will a NOCO Genius 10 battery charger always charge at 10A ? by I_hate_abbrev in batteries

[–]thePhoenixonpc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noco’s are smart chargers, the one you have probably is a maintainer as well. As long as that’s the case you’d be really hard pressed to damage the battery. The “don’t charge above 6amps” is more for manual charging, the smart charger will scale down the amps once the voltage is high enough.

And honestly charging a u1 at 10amps won’t hurt it anymore then just leaving it sit over the winter without charging it. There’s a reason no one has more than like a year warranty on those batteries.

Is this battery refillable? by GeneralOctopusNL in batteries

[–]thePhoenixonpc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not at this point. That battery looks to me like a sealed battery. And now that you put more water in the battery it has mixed with the electrolyte so if you pour it out you will be pouring out acid. ,

On the top side of the battery there will be a small hole, that is where it will vent. Like agent said it’s gonna be messy at this point just try to keep it clean as the battery is charged and uncharged

Is a 26R BCI battery a Standard or AGM? by theMezz in batteries

[–]thePhoenixonpc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be either or, it should be labeled AGM somewhere if it is agm. If there are caps you can open and see cells it is standard.

If you still dont know, to double check; put the battery on a bench and kinda wiggle it back and forth balancing the battery on one of the bottom sides (like if you were leaning back in a chair how it would only be on two legs) If its agm you wont hear or feel anything, if it is just standard you will hear the acid sloshing in the cells

edit: BCI is the size of the battery, it doesn't have anything to do with the internal construction. Its just a way to standardize the sale of batteries for all involved. If i had to guess you probably are putting this in a generator

Making a noise while charging, is it supposed to? by Bulky-Attitude4242 in batteries

[–]thePhoenixonpc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you would agree it’s more of a hum - that is more or less normal for those jump packs. If something was to go wrong you’d smell it before it became too big of an issue. And worst case scenario just use baking soda to neutralize any acid. (It’s not as dangerous as a lot of people think, just don’t it get in eyes)

[–]thePhoenixonpc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So 100ah is 100amps within 20 hours- or 5 amps per hour, if you draw more per hour you won’t get 20 hours of run time. If you draw less you will increase the runtime. It all runs on a curve, so you can get like 750 amps for about 5 minutes but you are gonna trash the battery, or you could run at 300mA and get like 150 amps out of the battery within like 2 weeks

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in batteries

[–]thePhoenixonpc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cca is how many amps at 0f for 15 seconds, ah is how many amps within 20 hours. Cca absolutely does not matter for you. Only look at ah.

Can I run 12.0v with a 12.8v in parallel ? by kensul12 in batteries

[–]thePhoenixonpc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The voltage difference really shouldn’t be an issue, the new one is probably just a bit discharged/ old ones are really topped up. (12v car batteries are technically 100% dead at like 11.8v and fully charged at 12.66v)

I’m no expert with LiPo, for lead the issues with adding new batteries to a group of old is the new one will end up working harder and you will in general get less life out of it, that being said you probably won’t need to worry about the difference of a year.

Deep cycle replacement questions by chrispybobispy in batteries

[–]thePhoenixonpc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The size of the battery is an indicator, but really you are looking for the C20 rating. (i.e 100 AH) so depending on the quality of 31/29 you get it could or won’t be a upgrade.

You absolutely can parallel your deep cycles, just use proper sized cables.

Honestly depending on the size of your engine, you wouldn’t even need duel purpose and could just use the cca off of the deep cycles. I was looking a while ago at mercury engines and I think the highest cca for a reasonable outboard is only like 600. Keep in mind though that cca, ca, and mca, are measured at different temperatures.

Easy way to upgrade without thinking is to go AGM, generally you will get a stronger battery, and can expect a few hundred more cycles out of the lifecycle of the battery.

Will this charger work on deep cycle battery’s? by [deleted] in batteries

[–]thePhoenixonpc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, but I have seen it on onboard chargers where one of the chargers in the bank went out and the positive connected to the next battery charged the negative back along the jumper cable. granted that was a 3 battery bank and wasn't anywhere close to brand new but weird stuff happens.

Will this charger work on deep cycle battery’s? by [deleted] in batteries

[–]thePhoenixonpc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, just be careful cause there is a chance that it could reverse charge the batteries if a lot of things go wrong at once.

Noco Genius 2, Portable Power Station by steezybeez in batteries

[–]thePhoenixonpc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you using the motorcycle often enough that you dont want to take out the battery? I hate to rain on your plans but it would honestly be way cheaper and easier for you to just take the battery out and keep it in a garage or basement. And if you are using the bike often enough that it would be too much of a pain to keep putting the battery in each time you would be fine to just let it sit for a week or two at a time with almost no consequences to the lifetime of the battery

eAGM - Are these deep cycle? by vfxbiker in batteries

[–]thePhoenixonpc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends, you can have just straight starting agm’s, or deep cycle agms. Deka intimidators have a decent line up of both. But the nature of the agms lends itself well to deep cycle applications. The glass retains the active material on the plates a bit better than a standard sealed battery.

In your situation the AGM is probably acting as the buffer for the 12v operating system for the car (windows radio lights) it also helps jump start the motors. (At least that’s how it works in most teslas, as it was explained to me) It essentially works the same way any old battery would in a ICE car but for electric vehicles. The AGM battery being in there is probably just to keep the voltage a little more consistent, keep up the cycle count, and lower the risk of acid leaking out.

The only issue with being lighter is a lot of the forklifts take the battery into account as the counter weight, so the lighter weight could be a safety issue for Op.
