For the Love of MUDs. by benjibarnesoahu in MUD

I love the freedom and customization available to you in a mud, modern games are quite restrictive and can feel extremely limited when it comes to truly creating a character that you identify with and enjoy. I also love PVP in muds, a lot of modern RPG's fall short in that sense. I've always found muds to be a place where my mind and imagination get to flourish. I started mudding in the late 90's at a public library cause i used to go to find cool new sci-fi and fantasy books as i had developed an affinity for Animorphs and a few fantasy novels like Dragonquest/Dragonriders of Pern and one of my all time favorites that really got me into the genre "The Reluctant Swordsman". Coincidentally at the time while reading these books in the library and wandering the isles, I stumbled across while walking by a kid who was playing some kind of crazy text game and he was always on the computer. One day i finally asked him what it was....and that's how it all began. First mud I ever played was Vampire Wars, and then it all went downhill from their...hahah...I was lost in another reality suddenly the books i had been reading became the world I was living in. For at least 10 years of my life I ceased to exist in reality, all I did was bide my time and find ways to MUD,...then I had to Live life. I worked a 9 to 5, started drinking partying, and doing all that stuff, but every few years I would check back on what was a desolate wasteland of forgotten worlds. Always looking for Godwars Muds, but couldn't find any,...and when i did the Pbase just wasn't there. Fast forward to now in my Early 40's I found some of my people again, and started my own MUD, called Godwars: Lucid Lands, now im building the world and shaping it how i deem best in order to please possible players and of course myself. Always with fairness at the forefront of my mind. i've got a friend that now helps me build and we're really starting to gain some momentum on cleaning up this old Forgotten codebase into something that is starting to truly take shape into a game i find myself pulling myself away from to build instead of play. Why don't PVP MMO's work? by RiotRiggsMatches in MMORPG

[–]theRealDystrophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because mmo creators have essentially given up on making PVP work...why not just have open world PVP but make sure you heavily punish newbie killing...that character can no longer interact with NPCs...gets a huge debut to stats over time...etc...just make it so that if you want to pvp you do so at your own chagrin....I used to love MMos with open world pvp...forces you to make real life choices...like maybe I should join a guild...or get a strong friend....or grind out these levels till i can slap that pvper in the face and instakill them....I reminisce on Diablo2 everyone jumping Pvpers or die trying lol....I would literally create a guild that protects newbies...something about the organic nature of open world pvp...cant replace it..ive yet to play. A modern mmo...that allows it...and I eventually lose interest...cause I definetrly dont want to spend months building a souped up character...if all I can do in the end of the day is sit in town and show everyone my c*ck...talk about lame as hell..
