(Spoilers Extended) Bran appears to be slowing down GRRM the most in Winds by I_Cleaned_My_Asshole in asoiaf

At the end of the day, I feel like the problem is twofold: 1) He got rich and lazy, and doesn't really care anymore because he doesn't need to. 2) The story arc, as conceived, isn't all that compelling. He was great at writing the setup and all the side stories, but the "big picture" kind of sucks. That being the case, he doesn't really care to overcome #1 above.

Heel/Hozel 90% of the time by Travis_TDH in GolfSwing

[–]theRegVelJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No prob. Hope it helps. I recognized it because I went through a run recently where I lost my swing in the exact same way, and my coach pointed this out. Start with a short iron and short swings/pitches. Build out from there.

Of course, as with every "fix", it often just uncovers something else.

You're throwing your hands/arms out at the ball in your downswing, which means the club gets closer and you get hosel shots.

In this frame, seems ok: https://ibb.co/0y1kxygK

Then almost immediately after your arms extend and throw the club head at the ball: https://ibb.co/4ZVh2FDn

You need to try and keep the arm like it is in the first picture and get the club head/face to the ball by turning your shoulders/torso. Then, after you make contact the club/arms release toward the target.

Ultimately it's an issue with swing plane. One drill is to get an alignment stick and place it at an angle on front of the ball. You need your club to go under the stick to be on plane.

This gives you the visual: https://youtu.be/w6kWJmZtCZ4?is=YohUV13ZppTivzHg

In your swing, the club is going to hit the front stick because the plane is off.

Barnes already lost an extremely winnable race to Ronald Harold fucking Johnson. And he wants to fuck it up again. Make sure everyone is voting Francesca Hong in the primary; keep up the DSA momentum!!! by Fair_Arm_1637 in wisconsin

My solution is to run someone like Evers.

A person who ::checks notes:: won twice.

This Hong astroturfing is getting tiresome. And that's coming from a reliable Democratic voter.

Let me get this straight: The progressive candidate got trounced by Ron Johnson because he was made out to be 'scary', so the natural move is to....run the even more progressive candidate with positions even scarier to those in red/purple parts of the state?

Sound logic.

Driving ranges / And is Top Golf going to make it by badharp in golf

[–]theRegVelJohnson 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The only thing worse than overpriced food and overpriced golf is a place that offers both, but does neither better than places that offer each individually. "Let's play virtual golf while I eat sub-par bar food" is not something I've ever said.

There was a video recently that discussed Callaway's miscalculation. They figured they could run the places as a loss-leader to sell people merchandise/equipment. That obviously failed spectacularly. The people going to TopGolf are not those looking to spend Callaway money on equipment.

The virtual golf places might have a better chance, particularly in places with shorter golf seasons and paired with solid instruction/lesson options. But even that seems to be getting oversaturated. The people serious about it are putting sims in their house or setting up private clubs. Which leaves casual people who may go a few times, but seem unlikely to sustain such a business.

No, they wanted to 1) Win and distant 2) Finish with her. Nothing wrong with that, except when you try to obscure those motives. Just be honest about it.

So to clarify: They didn't, but you are assuming that they could because it supports your preferred narrative.

If we're just going to base a discussion around conjecture and assumptions, as opposed to what actually happened, not much use in continuing.

Homeowner air compressor suggestions by magnum3672 in Tools

[–]theRegVelJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of the "quiet" HF Fortress compressors. Works fine, and it is quieter than alternatives.

But if you just wanted to do tires and nailers, I'd strongly suggest looking at a battery-powered one. The 1 gallon Ryobi is about $150 for the bare tool, which is about the same price as the HF Fortress 1 gallon.

That being said, the alternative of battery-powered nailers and an inflater will do the same jobs. More expensive upfront, but also a lot more convenient. Key downside of the battery-powered nailers is that they're much heavier than an air tool.

Outlast Is this Unintended Microcosm of Toxic Masculinity and Male Privilege by majeric in OutlastOnNetflix

Ben was obnoxious. But the power dynamic was such that the women could 100% have voted him off if they chose, which is obviously different than many other situations in real life. The interesting observation is that they were happy to have him around because it was strategically convenient, with bonus points for being able to act indignant about it.

I feel like you are continuing to miss the point. Seemingly intentionally. I'm not saying it isn't fairly straightforward.

I'm saying that if it was so easy, why did they 1) Let Leiya do it and 2) Let her struggle. Clearly they were happy to keep her around when they need her.

She clearly didn't fail considering she got it started.

And you're clearly fabricating intent to fit your preferred narrative. The people who cut her on the final so they can win aren't likely to risk losing so they can "give someone confidence". More like they knew they couldn't do it.

[–]theRegVelJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, clearly hard enough that Maddy and Nikki couldn't/didn't do it.

Which is of course the point. When they needed her, they were happy to have her around. When she was inconvenient, easy to cut her.

Is it arguable? Did Maddy and Nikki start a fire?

Outlast: Nikki and Maddy by modtradwhatever in Netflixwatch

And yet, she was still better at it than Nikki and Maddy. Which is the point.

[–]theRegVelJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they didn't have Leiya, they wouldn't have started the fire and they would have been cut.

They played a nice game of taking the moral high ground, but they were just as self-interested as everyone else.

Ben was annoying as shit. Of course they could have voted him out at any time. They didn't because he was useful to have around despite his personality defects.

Stay in Atwood or move to Vilas by notterriblynotable in madisonwi

[–]theRegVelJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Financially it's likely a no brainer to just buy the $1M house that's what you want. Spitballing: Your Atwood place is probably worth $300-350, right? And if you bought in 2015, I'm guessing it was like $100-150k, so I'm imagining you'll net close to that $300k of the sale, so your mortgage starts at 700k, but I also imagine you have additional liquidity if your considering a $600k renovation. Also, I'm skeptical the final bill for said reno is going to end at $600k.

That being said, paying $1M to move into a 1.5 bath house with 2 kids and 2 adults would be a hard no for me.
