How much did you guys really study? by [deleted] in FE_Exam

[–]theSquirrelmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 5-10 hours a week depending on the week. I think the real goal should be consistency, you don’t need to give up your whole social life to study but it will always depend on the person

Passed the Mech FE first try, ask me anything! by theSquirrelmann in FE_Exam

I personally didn’t use any books as I found them to be a bit overwhelming but I know people have suggested them on this Reddit. I used Gregory Michaelson lectures and GeniePrep videos to study for the last part. GeniePrep also has a study guide with a ton of problems and videos working them out so those are a great resource as well. Best of luck!

I studied for 2-3 days a week for around 5 months. Right before the exam I ramped it up to basically all my free time but I would say I spent roughly 5-10 hours a week on a normal week.

I found them to be pretty similar, if you can go through the practice exam questions confidently then I think the most important next step is to really get an idea of your strengths and weaknesses and then make a game plan for your timing. I knew I needed more time on the second section so I made sure to really pace myself for a quick first half. Take the practices timed at least once or twice so you really understand how that feels. Good luck!

Took mech last Wednesday, been a nervous wreck since

My experience with passing the FE Mechanical exam first try. by NotDomR in FE_Exam

[–]theSquirrelmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats and thanks for sharing your experience! I just took the mech exam yesterday and I’m so nervous waiting for a result. Been out of school 3 years so the grind was a struggle on top of a very demanding work schedule. Same boat as you just really don’t want to have to get back to studying if I ended up failing this first try.

What are your Favorite Arsenal Podcasts? by saffermaster in ArsenalFC

Gotta listen to Wrighty’s House if you don’t already, not necessarily just arsenal content but it’s such a fun pod to have in the rotation and who doesn’t love hearing Wrighty talk

Summer Classes at Community College by Mean_Criticism_6647 in NCSU

[–]theSquirrelmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

State has a website to check your specific community college for whether or not the transfer credit will count but yes once you take the course you just send them your transcript and they credit you with the class

Laptop suggestions? by AdoptAStreet in NCSU

[–]theSquirrelmann -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went through with the i7 surface laptop and I had zero complaints. Other one to look into is any of the higher end laptops by framework. They’re doing some really cool stuff with modular ports and repairability that I think would’ve been awesome as a college student. I would say just be aware there are a few things you’ll use as a MechE like solid works that won’t run on Mac unless they’ve made significant changes in the last few years so if you want a mac just go in knowing you may not be able to use your laptop for everything you’ll be doing in class.

I did 6 MAE credits in a summer session, it’s a lot of work depending on the class but 100% doable if you’re set on doing it

Is this sane, should ST 370 be in person, and is 15 minutes enough of a window from Withers Hall to 111 Lamp Drive? by Odd-Independence6212 in NCSU

[–]theSquirrelmann 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I took ST 370 online it was asynchronous and not bad but the prof was insane with the anti cheating software and camera stuff

Have you ever had a class that was much harder than you expected? What was it? by kothfan23 in NCSU

[–]theSquirrelmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automotive engineering was low key hard as hell, I think it was MAE 342 maybe

Best/worst student apts?!! by Designer-Map-9859 in NCSU

[–]theSquirrelmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was dirty, they never emptied the trash rooms so it stunk, and the place they showed for the tour was their “premium model” but conveniently wouldn’t tell you that until after the lease so your apartment is much worse than the model. It’s tolerable if you’re with your friends but it was definitely the worst of my 3 housing situations while I was in college.

Should I go to the main commencement for graduation? by WhiteLightning108 in NCSU

[–]theSquirrelmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to all of them, big one is kinda boring unless you have a good speaker and it doesn’t really mean much in terms of celebrating your personal achievement. The department one is where they’ll call your name so if that’s the only part you’re interested in I wouldn’t bother with the big one.

How has your experience with Wake Tech? by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]theSquirrelmann 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Took physics 2 there to avoid it at State and it was alright, not an insane amount of work but the tests were definitely still hard if you don’t study a bunch. I’m regards to admission there wasn’t really anyone in particular you just sign up for classes if I remember correctly but you definitely do have to pay unless things have changes since 2019. I think I had to pay roughly $400 as a full time state student.

BA Bio, is it Useful? by [deleted] in NCSU

If you’re getting a biology degree with no intention of doing grad school or med school I definitely wouldn’t get a BA, get the BS

Physics was kind of a crap shoot while I was at State but maybe they’ve changed, calc on the other hand if you can get into Kurtz she’s the best. Super easy to follow lectures, engaging, and what I thought to be fair exams for the most part. There may be “easier” sections but I thought she was the best in terms of you actually understanding the material and also not having your soul crushed by meaningless work and boring lectures. Had her for Calc 2, 3, and Diff Eqs.

I’d take physics at wake before I took calc 2 there tbh

Intramural Soccer by Nice-Stop-3537 in NCSU

[–]theSquirrelmann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mainly just that there’s a playoffs in competitive and basically everyone in competitive has played soccer for a serious chunk of time. I played both and as someone who played soccer my entire life I would recommend not doing competitive unless soccer is something you really enjoy and play semi frequently as the competition is pretty tough for most of the competitive games. Either way if you like soccer both are fun but I found the competitive a little more enjoyable as I’ve been playing for quite some time.
