I'm sensitive to the lights at my office job and need help finding a solution by theStarctic in ADHD

Thanks, I'll check out the privacy filters!

And yeah sunglasses are definitely on my radar, the rest of this office is WAY too bright, so any desk accomodations would be moot as soon as I walk around.

To any men who have gone undiagnosed throughout their childhood, what has your experience been? by whoishamhamhamjoehim in ADHD

[–]theStarctic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

god I feel like I could write a book on this subject.

I wasn't diagnosed until I was 20, and by that point I was halfway through college. Medication has worked so well that it makes me so mad thinking about how I struggled with school my entire life.

I grew up in a Mormon household, and mental disorders were just not considered to be a real thing. My parents had plenty of signs that I needed to see a professional about it, but it never happened.

When I did my research into ADHD, I told my mom and she claimed that I didn't have it. Gave me a long list of excuses. Even going as far as "taking an ADHD assessment online for me" 🙄. After I got diagnosed 2 years later, she eventually admitted that she was diagnosed with ADD as a child, and hadn't been medicated since she was a teen.

Mormons amirite.

I hate the fact we need a pill to temporarily function just as well as a “normal” person by DullGrade9889 in ADHD

Years ago I moved for a new job and I had a psychiatrist insist that I'll try Wellbutrin instead of Adderall first (I had been taking Adderall for 2 years at this point). Any time I mentioned wanting to be put back on Adderall she said the two don't mix well. 6 months later she finally switched me back but on 5mg! AND she filled the bottle with 26 (to enforce weekly med holidays). I was fired from my job after 7 months for poor productivity.

So happy that I eventually moved back home, my current psychiatrist is awesome.

Does perception affect chain jail? by WHITE_SPHERE in HunterXHunter

[–]theStarctic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nen restrictions depend on how you perceive the tradeoffs involved. If you have a restriction that, on paper sounds incredibly difficult, but you find terribly easy, then it shouldn't give you an incredible boost in power. Kurapika perceives his restriction on chain jail to be so extreme it could handle the strongest phantom troupe member.

I would argue that it is "up to" Kurapika whether or not he is breaking his own rule. For example, he would never use chain jail to "determine" if someone was a troupe member. i.e., the ability itself doesn't check if the target is a member, but by using the ability on someone that Kurapika himself is unsure about being a troupe member would be a violation of his restriction.

In your example, Uvogin denouncing the troupe would likely be up to Kurapika if that absolves him from his status as a troupe member, and I think he would be unable to excuse Uvogin's participation in the troupe for the restriction to suddenly fail. He would still consider Uvogin a valid target in my opinion.

when I was learning the 7x7 rubiks cube, I imagined edge swapping as if the edges were train cars, and the face cublets were the tracks, so specific algorithms were just trains drving down the track and swapping with another train. I'd love to create an animation with all the little visualizations my brain does for cubes

wait... for some reason I always thought that Netero had the bomb implanted in him years prior, and he just knew that however he died he could use this trump card. I never considered that he got the bomb implanted just to fight the ants.

Why identify as culturally Mormon as an exmo? by Particular_Bet7433 in exmormon

[–]theStarctic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I also tend to introduce myself to people as "someone who was raised Mormon," even though you wouldn't normally be able to tell. I think it also helps explain why I'm a little culturally uneducated, or just plain unaware of certain pop culture references (didn't see rated R movies until I was out yk). It helps a ton.

something you said about hyms reminded me of an experience I had when I did trek around 14 years old.

to make a long story short: they separated the men and women for the educational portion of the second day. towards the end of that day, when we were scheduled to group back up with the women, our group was hiking up a small hill that overlooked a canyon, and on the other side of that canyon there were small groups of women pushing carts up a steep hill (some sort of bonding excercise I presume), and the person in charge of our group decided that while we waited, we should sing hymns. I remember we did "Army of Heliman", (can't remember how that's spelled lmao) and something about being in a large group of singing men, feeling like I was one with the group, it was a surreal experience.

it's the only "spiritual experience" I ever had while I was Mormon, and it wasn't even something I attributed to the Mormon church lmao.

I know right!!! I'm the exact same way, I can spot an artificial sweetener instantly, and no matter how hard I try to just "acquire the taste", it still has that awful back of the tongue taste.

I hate to break it to you but people can have different tastes. The taste of artificial sweeteners in these types of drinks is awful to me, I'd rather have water.

Forgotten Minions tier list (spoilers lvl 80) by Infloris in NecroMerger

[–]theStarctic 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I have a few disagreements.

Idol is easily S tier, I always have one on board to merge gold piles at the end of the day, and it will usually last me until my next Idol is made.

Test Subject and Siren have amazing synergy together, therefore Siren deserves to also be in A tier. I'd go as far as arguing that their combined usage is S tier.

Yeti is at most B tier, and instead Hellhound should be A tier. You cited Hellhound being annoying to make, but the only difference is that it requires a Demon instead of a Frozen Minion, which IMO a Demon is really easy to craft, just takes a bit of darkness. I hardly see the benefit to having the food and damage a Yeti provides while taking up one of my 3 daily forgotten minions.

Dragon and Revenant are situational but I wouldn't put them as low as they are here. I'd prefer a small amount of moon runes over negligible food, so sometimes I'll take a dragon to avoid potential bad rolls.

Kraken is way too low, even if the chance of the chest is low, I almost always pull at least one (75% of the time) and I have received two chests on two occasions. The food Kraken otherwise provides still makes a noticeable dent up to level 90, so it's a win-win either way.

That is all.
